NfamousZ24 07-09-2005, 11:04 PM At the GM Small Car Bash in Indy at IRP
Was Jeff''s Arrival Blue Cobalt SS from STL
He was running 14.7 all day long and it was a hot one. LOL
tomt5078 07-10-2005, 09:04 AM Sounds about right to me. The last time me and my buddy went it was hot and the best his SS's did was 14.8. He has done better!!!
CoBIZZLE 07-10-2005, 10:20 AM I expect much better times to come.. not impressed by a 14.7....
87camaroPA 07-10-2005, 11:06 AM That is cool did you get any pics of the car?

SS's huge heavy wheels hold it back. If somebody grabs up some Racing Harts or something and goes down the track, I wouldn't be suprised to see a tenth or so gained just from less rolling mass. Rolling mass is the enemy.
87camaroPA 07-10-2005, 02:19 PM Yeap that is most likely it..
SS4ME 07-10-2005, 02:33 PM We should be worring what the SS can do with street tires, not slicks. I have no problem putting slicks on but that's not a true gauge of what your car can do on the street, which we spend most of our time on. I'm waiting for someone to post times with streetable, drag radials. Hopefully someone will do it before I do!

Yeah, rolling mass is the enemy, but has anybody actually weighed your rims? I know the RL rims are roughly 17lbs each, give or take a pound for differences in scales. HitTheCones, a GM engineer, said the wheels are actully not that heavy. So I'd be interested in seeing the actual weight of your rims.
mayo11297 07-10-2005, 09:52 PM hey are any of you guys that were at the bash from the Indy area, I live about 15 min from IRP but i didnt get to make it out there

I actually weight the wheel w/tire when I painted my calipers and (this was on a cheap scale though) it weighed in @ 22lbs
CoBIZZLE 07-11-2005, 10:26 AM How much of that do you think was the tire? 2-3lbs??
phxSS 07-11-2005, 09:45 PM I read ( i forget where) that the SS rims are 25lbs each
phxSS 07-11-2005, 09:46 PM 22lbs with tire? That's actually not bad for factory 18's

That's what I was saying. The factory 17's on the RL's are actually forged aluminum, polished to a "chrome like" finish, so they're shiny :D . And 17lbs for forged aluminum is also not a bad weight, and we know they're strong as hell.
