: What do I need to do?
whtbolttc11 10-25-2009, 08:58 PM I have an '09 cobalt ss/tc. I just ordered Hahn 3" catback exhaust. Thru out the winter I plan on parking it and adding various modifications. Pretty much Hahn everything: exhaust, cai, charge piping, new blow off vavle(not sure which one yet), and then trifecta tune. I was wondering do I need to do anything else so it can handle all that such as new clutch??

The clutch can only handle about 320 ft-lbs of torque. Any thing over that and it starts slippling. If you have more torque than that, you'll definatly want
to replace the clutch. Also poly engine mounts wouldnt be a bad investment.
austinss 10-26-2009, 03:37 PM I have well over 320ft-lbs of torque and I'm on the stock clutch with no slipping what-so-ever. I'm not saying I won't need one after awhile but as long as you don't kill it all the time, it will be fine. I've heard from several tuners that the '09 has less tendency to slip than '08. Hahn is deff. a good brand but all their products aren't necessary. There isn't one CAI out yet that doesn't skew the fuel trims, try airbox mod, costs $5. For charge piping there are a few, clear image automotive, dejon, and injen. You deff. have the right idea with trifecta, Vince is an awesome guy and knows his stuff to get you what you're looking for. Nice color by the way :)
whtbolttc11 10-26-2009, 05:16 PM Which would be better cai or airbox mod? Any suggestions on bov?

Do you have a dyno chart? If you look at dyno chart, on a moded ss, with the factory clutch and over 320ft-lbs on it. Torque will spike then steady around 320.
skoal*boy 10-26-2009, 07:47 PM Iam well well over 320ft-lbs and on an my 2nd clutch (GM problem) I know that sounds bad but that clutch is for the supercharged cobalts with only have 205ft-lbs? It would save you alot of time in the shop if you just go ahead and buy one. I have one a stage 3 sitting in my house waiting for the one on my car to crap out on me.
whtbolttc11 10-26-2009, 08:27 PM Any suggestions on what type of clutch? Or what else I could do to mod it? Also what should I start with first?
austinss 10-26-2009, 08:43 PM Spec for clutch brand. What mods to do depends on what you plan on doing. No bolt on will give you over 260hp, just higher in the powerband until you get tuned. Certain bolt ons after your tune will create the need to retune. So, if you have the money I'd get all your bolt ons and then tune it.

If you buy the trifecta tune and the adaptor cable for $200. They will normally
retune your car for free.

Ive been sitting at 350+wtq since 500 miles (at 8k now and most of those miles are not easy miles)...I'm much higher now. I expect 380+ when I get the new intercooler installed (bloew my side tanks on the dyno)
There has been some notes of 2009 clutches seem to hold much better then those from 2008......Atleast thats the general rule of thumb right now. But I do expect the clutch to eventually go out, its being pushed well beyound its means right now, but to say anything above 320 it slips is completely inaccurate information.

320 ftlbs is what gm manufactured the clutch to hold. Yes it may hold above that, but not for long. If you havent put the car on a dyno yet, how do you know your torque rating?
frstgrdedropout 10-30-2009, 10:52 AM Look at the dyno chart. The car spikes to 350ftlbs then is steady at around
320. It's not because the engine is not producing the torque at higher rmps.
It's because the clutch is slipping.

Car has been on the dyno plenty of times........It blew the end tank on the dyno, and its torque was reading close to the numbers I want ;)....We shall see in a few weeks (new intercooler comes in Monday I'm hoping but I'm out of town towards the end of the week). I'm expecting some good numbers....the logging program shows 414wtq, but thats is caculated, the dyno was over 370wtq before the end tank blew out on a 4th gear climb (still no clutch slipping)
And your dyno shows what every K03/K04 has always shows once tuned. The turbo peaks low, then falls on its face...Thats not slipping. Slipping would/should up different, atleast every time I've seen a slip a dyno chart it shows up differently then that. Yours looks like any tuned K04
