We are always open for suggestions on how to improve the place... so, as a user of our forum here, what would you like to see added?

Please let us know!

What can we do to make the site better?

Good question...the site seems pretty good. The only thing some other Cobalt sites *cough* have that this one doesn't is frequent news postings on the homepage. Beleive me, that brings in lots of users.

I look all over the net trying to find news articles... but if you know of some places we should be looking, or you spot something, you can always PM me with the URL and I'll be happy to check it out :)

I think that more pictures of all different colors and angles would be nice to add. :) since the ss's are not out yet, people may be looking for great pictures of them. this site should be the best place to go to look for pictures of the cobalt.

Well acctually, do u wanna know what really pisses me off about this site? The webhost! Half the time the site dont even work, the connection will time out. This is really annoying. I can't be the only one who has this problem.

Who is hosting this site anyway?

I do the hosting, the site also shares the same server as a few other websites I run. I've been doing maintenance and moving things around, thus the reason for the downtime. I've completed most of that tonight tho, so things should be smooth sailing from here on out.

I will need to do one more batch of maintenance on this server, and that is to replace a hard drive that I suspect is going bad.

Yeah, I'm a webhost too (http://bluestealth.com), anyway, I'm not exactly talking about downtime, I'm talking about a bad connection (as if the server is way overloaded). Because, the connection will timeout, then I'll try again, then it will work.

Off, topic, yet on topic, I have another suggestion: more smilies! :) Like this one: http://forums.clubrsx.com/images/smilies/yeahthat.gif

That's what happens when the apache daemon gets stopped and restarted all the time :)

Thats weird... because just one of my sites alone transfers a bit over 200 gigabytes/month. If there were 'connectivity' issues I think I would have other complaints from other users on other sites.

Oh well, we do what we can.

hmm, i dont think your takeing me seriously. but beleive me, there is something going on. for example, on my last post i hit "submit reply" then it timed out and i had to hit it again...maybe its a problem with the connection to my sql server...maybe its the old version of apache

I havent had any complaints from any other users on any other sites. So, we are pulling from a client size base of about 30,000 -- so, yeah, I'd have to say the problem MORE THEN LIKELY isnt on our side... but what do I know.

Whats 30,000 against 1? It must be on our side.

This is the most current version of the Apache 1.3.X tree BTW, it was released 10/29/04 - The 1.3.X tree is still maintained for security releases and bugs, and has been shown to perform superior to Apache 2.X series with PHP applications.

But, I'm sure as a webhost yourself, you already knew that.

okay, i dont wanna start a war here, i just dont think i can't be the only one with the problem. i never have problems on any other forums.

Anyway, i'll give it a rest for now. one day, when i'm on a different computer, on a different isp i'll surf around here for a while. if i dont have the problem i'll let you know.

Because, like i said, i dont wanna start a war between us; i'm just trying to help. :)

acctually, i thought of a good idea. I'll set up a monitor at one of those monitoring sites. I could easily be wrong, so this will be a good woy for us both to find out :D

link to summary: http://www.siteuptime.com/statistics.php?Id=19189&&UserId=22629

(funny, this site was down for about 20 minutes at midnight (my local time), this just happened to be the same time i set up the monitor)

I will need to do one more batch of maintenance on this server, and that is to replace a hard drive that I suspect is going bad.

Not funny, I had mentioned that in a previous post in this very thread. I guess you missed it?

It will be going down _again_ as well when I get more time to do more maintenance. Generally speaking, midnight is not when I prefer to do maintenance but sometimes it cant be helped.

However, the problem you described previously is not caused by maintenance. Nor is it caused by our "backbone link" as you mentioned previously either.

tecmec

i dont think i ever mentioned a backbone link. and i do have one tiny thing to add: midnight to me is different than midnight to you (according to these forums anyway). also, why could i connect to an ftp server last night when the cobaltss.com server was apparently getting a new hd?

ekool

What does an FTP server have to do with CobaltSS.com -- Do you mean you connected to an FTP daemon on CobaltSS.com?

No idea, but according to your graph the sites only been down once.

Either way, I'm really tired of arguing with you about it. If you think your ePenis is bigger then mine, or your webhost is the bomb more power to ya.

Well, I've got something to add... To make the site better, the mods should be patrolling some threads a bit more. Some are getting out of hand.
