Definetly... Isnt the SS supposed to have a bit more horsepower, even if it isnt "advertised" ?

Impressive. I wasn't expecting nearly that much added up!

I hope this site proves to answer the rumors going afloat soon enough.

He pulled the top of his intake box off and put in a new filter and gained that much HP? Wow.

The SRT4 gains on average of 6whp with no box.

Ahh, ok then, I didnt know the redline dyno numbers where to the wheels. I had seen some other redline wheel dyno numbers they were down in the 170's or so.

thats not bad if the redline is dynoing that close the SRT's should be a damn good race when they line up.

Edit:

Heres the link to where I saw those other numbers earlier..

damn nice numbers. I dynoed 231whp 251wtq STOCK but damn, out of a 2.0L engine, that's very good.

they just need a 7500 rpm redline.

As far as I've seen the cars are putting down an average of 190WHP, I think a Cobalt SS with sticky tires and a good driver should run the 1/4 mile in the 14.3 range. Should be a fun little car.

I have a RL and all I can say is to get the LSD.

We've had four Redlines on our dyno and they have all put out about 215hp to the wheels stock.

hp :D is good but torque is better.

hp :D is good but torque is better.

I think that depends on the car. The lighter the car the less torque matters (IMO). Of course its important, but on a 1000 pound car I'd want more HP then torque, as torque is what gets you going and HP keeps you going (if you want to put it that way)

But would you rather have a redline with 200 lbs of torque and 150 hp? Or you would rather have a redline with 200 hp and 150 lbs of torque? I always thought that in a 1/4 run, that torque was more important over hp??? Or was I miss led?

HP, is a measure of torque produced over the RPM range. So you can't prefer one over the other. What you're saying is that you'll take a car with more or less low/top end. That's why low-torque cars can rack up horsepower numbers if the engine has no revlimit (which of course they all have)

You can't say torque is better than hp or vice versa without comparing the gearing of the powertrain as well.

Nick,
If you'll notice the guy in your link says he did his pulls in 4th gear, the guy in SRTMan's post did his pulls in 3rd gear. I generally hear people doing third gear pulls, that is actually the first time I've ever heard of a 4th gear pull.
Heck, I thought you were supposed to pull in 3rd, but I'm not even sure if it really matters cause I've never been on a dyno before.

You do your dyno runs in whatever gear has the closest to a 1:1 rato. 4th in this case.
