Right now I am in a Toss up of what I am really going to do. I want the Cobalt SS for this car show season. But it looks like that I won't get it and have the work I want done for it by the time of the GM Small Car Bash, Let alone all of the other shows before that. First one that I am concerned with is Slammin & Jammin and that is the last weekend of May.

Does anyone know how much power the factory LSD will be able to handle? With everyone trying to get more power out of the Cobalt SS, it'd be a shame to have it shatter into a million pieces.

Has anyone considered Quaife or Kaaz? Or some other third party?

I plan to get it but unfotionally i ran into a money short because of College but as soon as i can afford a Cobalt SS i will be getting one with LSD it looks like sometime after X-mas this year :( .

I dont want the Recaro's that come with it, i'll just go third party with it. And as someone else said, we dont know how much it can handle, so why run the chance.

I'm sure the Recaros will fetch a pretty penny... :) I wonder if you'd have to sell the rails too?

I wouldn't get one without it. I drove a friends SE-R Spec V (180ft/lbs) and the front end on it bout got away from me when he let mestomp on it. So I'll definitely be gettin one!!!

I wouldn't call it a waste of money. I am just opting not to get it.

Maybe you should try and launch one before you say that.

Depending on what kind of LSD... The SRT's for example, doesn't affect launching. It only affects cornering.

I knew nothing of the LSD package, But it would definatly be sweet on this car

I did 2 launches from stoplights lastnight, and got NOTHING but wheels spinnin thru 1st and into 2nd

Wonder if they can put it in after the fact or if its just offered from the factory

Yes it can be installed afterwards but it will cost you a LOT of money$$$.
Probably more than the $1400 claimed price and you wont get the Recaros either. But I think it would be worth it.

Whoever said it doesn't affect launching on the SRT-4's is wrong. (not being a jerk, just pointing it out)

On any car, a LSD is the difference between one wheel spinning, and two wheels spinning.

In our club, we have SRT-4's from '03-'05 and the ones w/ the LSD launch a hell of a lot better.

I wish I had it on my 'Tona

As the proud (original) owner of a '92 Nissan Sentra SE-R, one of the few FWD cars to have a factory LSD (viscous) diff, I can assure you that it will you get off the line a lot quicker than a car without it (power & weight being the same). Also sharp corner handling is improved, because if the inside tire slips power is tranferred to the outer wheel. This will be especially true with the Quaiffe diff, ( properly a torque biasing diff)

...(canada) yet. I checked about putting it in after the fact and even with the same LSD as GM is using and installed byGM mechanics it VOIDS the warranty. There are differing opinions but 1 GM rep said that all parts associated with such mods are also vioded.

Thats Bull Crap!!! They should warrant the products that they use!!
What a bunch of jerks! I bet it's just the dealer sayin that to get out of a warranty! I bet he's full of it!

My black G85 package goes into production at the end of the month. I should be taking delivery around June 1st. Believe it or not, I actually got $250.00 knocked off the sticker!

I wonder why a Canadian just can't order the LSD for the car.. I mean they are all being made in the same spot so I wonder why you just can't order it with the LSD and have it come to Canada..

Is it something to do with Safety specs or something??

Also how much extra is his option?

I ordered my Cobalt SS a while back. In theory I should be getting it around the 15th of may, but GM will not give me a firm date. Arival Blue, with LSD and sunroof.

Does anyone know if this is going to change in the near future?
I was basing my decision to buy one of these babies on the fact that one could get an LSD as part of the package.

I really don't want to pull the tranny apart at a later date and install one myself - as I did with my Talon.

Yeah Canada will get LSD next year and USA has it but it is a option. I am hopeing the LSD will come standard next year but who really nows if it will.

I am only guessing that the people that called it a complete waste are not going to buy the car in the first place. The typical V8 guys that are mad that some I4's can hang now. :p

If you are into performance of any kind, I would definitely go with the LSD. It's groovey.

I would love to have a V-8 but why spend all of that money on gas when a 4 cyl. can hang with a V-8 and still get some good gas mileage and with LSD why hot get it?

Well put. Displacement has it's advantages, but then so does technology. Although the more the performance increases, the worse gas mileage gets (gotta match that forced air)...but still it's a far cry with a 4 banger.

Bah, I don't want to wait until next year - I'm very impatient. I guess I'll have to install one myself again when they become available.

Patience is a virtue my friend! But whatever if you feel like pullin your tranny later on then have at it!

F/I 4 cyl will get almost the same mileage as a N/A V8. Don't go off factory EPA's either they're always lower than what you'll actually get.

I ordered my car without the LSD and Recaros... First of all I needed a car ASAP for transportation for work.. Also I don't really feel like spending an additional $2000 grand ontop of the already heafty price.. Also I mean I think it's fast and gets up nice enough.. I mean sure you get more traction and such.. But I mean.. I mean for a street turner I don't think you will really notice it all that much.. For a racer on track and such (hardcore speed person) will notice.. I am buying this just to drive to and from work.. I don't have time to race and all that kind of cool stuff.. I have my Beretta to have a car for big time modification looks and such.. I mean if I want more power I will put HP into it.. The LSD isn't that big of a deal..

And the seats.. Well I saw them in the Redline and I didn't really like them to be honest.. They arn't they much different then the SS seats (maybe more comfortable who knows) but I like the looks of the normal seals.. Again I have my Sparco Racing Buckets in my other car.. So I have the best of both worlds I guess.. 2 nice looking cars @ the age of 22.. I am happy enough to beable to own to sick looking cars :)

personally, i was just happy to find one on a lot for me to buy, didn't care too much about the lsd. It's a blast to drive even without it, and I have no complaints about handling.
