: Orange SS SuperCharged Spotted (with pics)
Zilla 02-26-2005, 12:13 PM I saw this baby parked in front of the Oshawa GM engineering centre on Thursday Feb 24th. Cars usually appear here a few weeks before they hit dealers in Canada. This one was outside the compound in the truck/car plant parking lot but I noticed there is a blue and a black SS in the compound. I'm excited to see the black, I'll get pics if it comes out.
The perferated seats look awesome in person!! I went to the autoshow last night and looked at them again. I wish the SS at the autoshow was unlocked to sit in.

NIVO88T 02-27-2005, 10:06 AM wow, that was my color of choice if i decided on a cobalt ss.
Scourge 02-27-2005, 11:29 AM I see something right below thie shift knob and right above the boot...
Please tell me they didn't give the Cobalt SS the child-proof reverse pull-up ring thing... It's like they either don't have faith in their customers's driving ability OR they couldn't do it right in the first place.
So how do you change your shift knob in this case? Or remove that stupid lockout ring?
87camaroPA 02-27-2005, 12:15 PM Nice pics and good eye that is so awsome.
Scourge 02-27-2005, 12:24 PM I'm pretty sure the Pursuit I drove (I'm in Canada; We've got 'em already) did not have a reverse pull-up ring.
Zilla 02-27-2005, 01:32 PM I'm pretty sure the Pursuit I drove (I'm in Canada; We've got 'em already) did not have a reverse pull-up ring.
Keep in mind, the SS has a different transmission than the Pursuit too. It looks to me like there is a pull up ring. I might be going by there today. I'll have a closer look for the pull up ring for you. It doesn't bother me, my dad's Saab had the same thing and it's not hard to get used to. It's not just to prevent people from putting it into reverse while rippin' down the interstate; it also prevents it from coming out of reverse when the key is not present (safety/security) ... at least in the Saab it was like that.
Maybe the SS has the same 5-speed as the Saab 9-3? I know that it is different from the LS transmission but I wonder what other cars share it?
If anyone wants specific pictures of this car, let me know. I drive by that area a couple times a week and it has been there 4 out of the 5 times I've driven by (since originally spotting it).
tecmec 02-27-2005, 01:44 PM The perferated seats look awesome in person!!
Yeah, there like the rsx. Pretty nice, but they also hold the dirt really well. But who's gunna get a Cobalt dirty? Like really? lol

Well, the shift knob looks like the one in the Ion Redline. Almost exact if not. The RL definitely had a pull-up ring. I heard the transmission will be slightly different but I think that's all in the gearing.
Anyway, if you can actually go in and sit in it, that'd be cool. Take pics. Also, I want to know what the clutch pedal feels like. When I drove the RL, the clutch didn't have a whole lot of travel (which is good) but it didn't seem to engage until I lifted the clutch pedal to about 1/2 of full height making it harder to modulate. In my car, the moment you start to lift your foot, you can feel it grab.
87camaroPA 02-27-2005, 02:29 PM Hey i am in PA and i did not see a pull up ring in the Red Line that i sat in when it was at the car show. I dont know if that changed since Jan but i could have just been a show car and not production model but any way it did not have one.
Zilla 02-28-2005, 10:11 AM Well, the shift knob looks like the one in the Ion Redline. Almost exact if not.
I've been comparing the specs on the two transmissions and it looks like the SS Supercharged and the Ion Redline have the same 5 speed transmission according to gmcanada.com. What's weird is that the US and Canadian sites have different gear ratios listed for the SS supercharged:
GEAR | US | CANADA
RPO | MM5 | FPG F35
1ST | 4.05 | 3.38
2ND | 2.02 | 1.76
3RD | 1.35 | 1.18
4TH | 0.98 | 0.89
5TH | 0.69 | 0.70
REV | 3.31 | 3.17
FIN | 3.94 | 4.05
The Canadian site numbers are the same as the Ion Redline, the US site numbers are different. Another difference between the two sites is that the Canadian sites says the SS Supercharged is NOT available in Silver.
I'm pretty sure the Pursuit I drove (I'm in Canada; We've got 'em already) did not have a reverse pull-up ring.
It does have a pull ring, because GM put a cobalt ss on display at my dealership for 2 hours for some tour thing they are doing...and i toke pictures and sat in it and it does have a pull ring.
SCobaltblue 03-10-2005, 03:43 PM Yes, it does have the idiot proof reverse ring on it. There is one in Phoenix and I was sitting in it drooling. The car surprisingly had a lot of room in it. I am 6'2" 215lbs and I was very comfortable in it. I pushed the clutch in and my leg was competley straight, something I have never seen in a small car. The clutch and shifter were very smooth and short. The clutch was close to floor and did not have a lot of travel to it, the way I like it! I will defidently get one when I find one in blue.

CoBIZZLE 03-10-2005, 11:54 PM Sounds good to me. Im about 6'2"ish - 6'3"ish and about 210 lbs. You think I'll fit comfortably???
doomhammer 03-11-2005, 08:06 AM Is it me or are the wheels acutally a graphite color? I thought they were polished... goes to show you what I know...
ekool 03-12-2005, 02:45 PM I cant tell if there's a bunch of brake dust, or if thats the color. Looks like heavy brake dust tho ???
ThatChevyGuy 03-14-2005, 12:21 AM yes... I was hoping the clutch was close to the floor... Speed shifting is that much, uhh, "speedier"...
ekool 03-14-2005, 03:12 PM Uhm... when racing, I prefer clutches that engage near the very end of their throw. That means you do not have to depress the clutch very far to fully disengage it. Makes more sense to me, to have less clutch pedal travel then more?
NIVO88T 03-14-2005, 03:45 PM I'm liking the orange
Sp00ner 03-14-2005, 03:50 PM Is it just me, or do the new Chevy's have HUGE Chevy emblems on the back? There's an Equinox here at work, and the freakin logo is like 12" across, right smack in the middle of the back of the car. I can see it from the otherside of the parking lot in the dark!
Skiboarder311 03-16-2005, 06:08 PM Sounds good to me. Im about 6'2"ish - 6'3"ish and about 210 lbs. You think I'll fit comfortably???
i'm 6'2" and about 245 and i am perfectly comfertable driving
Fitting in a car was the difference between me getting a SS S/C or a SRT4.
Im 5'10 235.
CoBIZZLE 03-17-2005, 11:31 PM If you get the standard SS w/o the Recaro buckets you should be alright. Heck even with the Recaro buckets, the SRT seats are just as tight as those!!
Unless you already have an SRT-4, then you probably don't care bout the Chevy's seats anymore...
I have sat in both the recaro and the normal seats and they are very comfortable in my opinion. But those viper seats in the srt4 made it feel like i was crossing my legs way to fucking small, i elbowed the dealer a couple times shifting.
CoBIZZLE 03-18-2005, 04:03 PM So are you opting with the Chevy???
I have 2 test drives next week and than ill probably place my order for an arrival blue SS S/C with sunroof and blue inserts.
CoBIZZLE 03-20-2005, 12:46 AM Cool, let us know how it turns out...
CoBIZZLE 03-20-2005, 12:47 AM i'm 6'2" and about 245 and i am perfectly comfertable driving
Sounds good to me!!!!! :D
mastashake4u 03-27-2005, 03:39 PM I like it in orange but if I can manage to afford one I think I’ll get it in black
SS-Boyz 03-27-2005, 04:19 PM i like yellow.. there wont be many people getting yellow since there is the rival blue and burnt orange so.. im thinkin yellow will stand out great :)
Offroadzr2001 04-10-2005, 07:19 PM Are those rims gray????
87camaroPA 04-10-2005, 07:35 PM Are those rims gray????
No crome it just that they pic up the color's around them.
CobaltNation 04-20-2005, 09:56 AM I drop by this area today and guess what? IT'S STILL THERE! So I got out and walked around it for a few mins. I came to the conclusion that the orange just doesn't do it for me. I wasn't feelin it. It could have something to do with the fact that car is pretty dirty now.
I'm trying to see if I can find someone to let me drive it.

Well, there will be atleast 2 in the state. My rally yellow SS with sunroof and two tone interior got ordered about 5 weeks ago. No build date yet, but hopefully soon
87camaroPA 04-21-2005, 07:05 AM There is a Yellow SS in PA i just found out about it last weekend.
CoBIZZLE 04-21-2005, 10:54 PM Yellow is the only color I've seen...

CobaltNation 04-26-2005, 06:58 AM Where is this car at that you can just walk up to it like that?
It's funny, it's just sitting there in a parking lot... and it has been I guess for months. And it's not like it's a hidden parking lot somewhere that you can't get to, I parked my car right beside it.
CoBIZZLE 04-26-2005, 11:44 AM Maybe somebody forgot it, hell get a Passlock bypass and hotwire that bitch! LOL j/k :D

Wow you would think they would have it hidden in a private parking lot.
CoBIZZLE 04-28-2005, 11:49 AM Could be one that has been seriously forgotten about!
87camaroPA 04-28-2005, 03:06 PM I wonder if anyone drives it at all.
Zilla 05-08-2005, 09:30 PM Ya, someone drives it... It's in a different parking spot almost every time I drive by. It's beside GM Canada's engineering center. No one forgets about cars in this lot, they have to pass it to go home every night. There was a Hummer H3 sitting in that lot today when I drove by. Looks good... here's a pic:

87camaroPA 05-08-2005, 09:40 PM Wow man you get to see some of the newest GM's don't you. Are the H3's even avaiable yet?

Hopefully there will be a solstice out there soon.
Zilla 06-16-2005, 04:50 PM Hopefully there will be a solstice out there soon.
Not out there, but I spotted one around back... looks like they were doing something with it, an RX-8 and the SS Supercharged.
