: Chevy Cobalt just another supercharge Cavalier
elcometadc5rsx 03-02-2005, 10:20 PM The New Cobalt is far the worst piece of shit ever to come out in the market. In order to appeal to the youth of america, The Cobalt designer borrowed the design from two of the best sport compact cars out there. The rear window design of the RSX and the Interior of a VWGolf. Chevy must be a crappy company for it can't design its own style and set its own trend. they always copy others and are always are behind with their inventions.
Comparing the RSX type S which comes with 210hp stock without a supercharger and the Cobalt SS 210hp with supercharger, right there tells you how bad chevy is in terms of technology. therefore they relay on the supercharger to get to and additional 60hp out of the chevy cavalier engine which equals crap. :D

creed44 03-03-2005, 02:49 AM if u don't wanna be nice to the chevy family then don't say anything at all because lik ei have heard before don't hate the car hate the driver.

elcometadc5rsx 03-03-2005, 05:28 AM The Cobalt is the imitation of the RSX and The Golf at its worst. Mainly because of their cheap material use all around the car. The cobalt is chevy at its worse.
elcometadc5rsx 03-03-2005, 05:30 AM Chevy dosent know what to do anymore in terms of style or creativity or performance.
elcometadc5rsx 03-03-2005, 05:36 AM the worst thing to a cobalt is a :D Dodge Neon
elcometadc5rsx 03-03-2005, 06:00 AM Cavaliers/Cobalts are only good as rental cars.
JamesBrown 03-03-2005, 08:31 AM you talk to yourself a lot. Read reviews, everybody else loves this car.
Sorry gotta do it,

This should be funny, what kinda car do you have ?
Scourge 03-03-2005, 10:48 AM I'm guessing he's got an RSX as he's got DC5 (chassis code) and RSX in his name. :)
I can't say I completely agree or disagree with him. I do agree in regards to the interior but a lot of people don't care about that. Currently, I've only got the Cobalt LS to compare to the RSX-S so it's an unfair comparison. And I've only driven the Ion Redline once. Who's to say it'll feel the same?
With the LS, I didn't like the it because the shifter throws were way too long, didn't go in smoothly and the shift knob was a cheap rubber ball. The clutch had too much of an "unused" range. It engaged at about 2/3 up the full travel of the clutch pedal. But at least I got something to back it with. With the Ion RL, the shifter felt a lot shorter (will probably be similar in the SS/SC), the clutch was more responsive (but still not as much as I like).
If you take the good from the Ion RL and apply it to the Cobalt LS, it's not bad. I'd prefer the RSX-S though although my 2002 (200hp) will be slower.
But I do give props to GM for making a fast, affordable car.

FIRST OFF THE RSX HAS 200HP, YES ITS A CHEVY.....BUT WHEN THE SS COMES OUT IT WILL BE HOTTEST CARS OUT...PRETTY MUCH THE HOTTEST THING OUT IN THE SPORT COMPACT WORLD RIGHT NOW.
Hot Sauce 03-03-2005, 11:04 AM RSX is a girls car anyway. Everybody's got one.
Im done with this thread, this guy is clown shoes.

The 2002-2004 has 200hp, true. But the 2005+ RSX-S does indeed have 210hp as elcometadc5rsx stated. I've also heard that BOTH the Cobalt SS/SC and the 2005+ RSX-S are both underrated in power. I also wouldn't go as far as saying the Cobalt SS/SC will be the hottest car either. It won't, but it'll appeal to a lot of people. It'll be a hot car, just not the hottest. Keep in mind, there are a lot of other cars that are faster and in the same price range.
Anyway, I'm not trying to argue. I'm just sorting out facts. There's so much misinformation out there.
And to elcometadc5rsx, I wouldn't knock the Cobalt SS/SC until you've tried it. Yeah, I'm an RSX-S owner too but I like to keep an open mind.

good timing too, since the SRT-4 is done this year with a commemorative edition, white with blue stripes ala dodge neon R/T.

Honda's don't underate power, usually they bullshit the other way. There's also not a single Redline dyno that has showed less than 200 hp at the wheels, that's the American way. Run a dyno on a Camaro or Mustang and you'll see that same thing. Stock 99(?) Camaro SS's were hitting over 300hp to the wheels. If you look at the performance numbers of the Ion or the SRT-4, you see real fast that they don't add up the the horsepower advertised.
Below here only pertains to the idiot
---------------------------------------------------
This guy is obviously an idiot, because I was wandering through a few different RSX forums, and they cant agree amongst themselves if the Redline is faster, I watched them trash a guy for 2 weeks because he got beat by one and admitted it. You live near Chicago ya American car hating piece of trash? If so, you can bring that cute little girl's car over here, ya know, the one that your mommy convinced your daddy to buy so you could get a girl, and I'll spank it up the street, down the street, and then around a track. Then when I'm done, I'll roll it up right behind you, pull it up on your ass-end and let my car go to town on your's like a superior dog humping the inferior one. Then I'll buy ya dinner with the cash that I have left over every month from my MUCH lower car payment. You're a dumb-ass. You're too stupid to even realize that almost EVERY sport-compact out there started from a car that was aimed to take down the Cavilier that has still sold more cars than all you RSX's put together and squared. I hate these import loving idiots, some people have good reason to hate, and then there just some people...

esarteefor 03-04-2005, 03:30 PM Wow, this is hilarious. This argument just gets soooooo old if you ask me. I have looked at the SS online, and the car looks awesome. I drive an SRT-4 (please dont lump me with rude SRT-4 owners, I have respect for all cars), and all I ever hear is "its still just a neon." That 'philosophy' holds no value whatsoever, it just screams arrogance.
I personally cant wait to see the SS hit the streets, its gonna be a very sweet car. Im trying to convince my friend to get one right now!

Honda gets Recalls also. It is just the Media that is Biased. I don't know about you guys but when my local news paper puts a recall in the paper for Honda it is in a small box in the corner couple of pages into the newspaper. But when GM, Ford, or Dodge has a recall it is Front and Center Bold headlined front page news.
Here is a small search Honda Recalls (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=Honda+Recall)

Well, honestly dude, it is still a Neon....Its a fast Neon that deserves a LOT of respect, from an engineering stand point, and a speed stand point. However, it is stil a Neon.
A side rant: SRT-4 Owners who will refuse to aknowledge that their car is a Neon..I hate this--Yes, your car is fast. Yes, its very powerful. Yes, it looks better than a base neon. No, I don't like its styling, but DAMNIT IT IS STILL A NEON.
(P.S. That rant was not directed towards the man whom I quoted. Just me going off on my own tangent.)

the srt-4 is a powerful car, nuff said!....
if you had a cobalt, and someone said "isnt that just like a cavaleir?".. wouldnt you say "its a *****COBALT*****"... it has blah blah hp/trq.. its new, not like anything else out there man!, blah blah..totaly dude.. blah..........???"
ok, REALLY bad examplpe, but hey, you get the point... just like the srt-4 get "its just a neon".. the cobalt will get "its just a cavalier"..
thats how the tuner world is my friend :)
NfamousZ24 03-13-2005, 01:15 PM But the only diffrence is that it is a Neon SRT4 on a Neon Platform
the CobaltSS is a Cobalt built on a Delta platform and not on the J Body platform that the Cavalier and Sunfire was built on. But yes the Coblat replaced the Cavalier. But it is ment ot be at a little higher level than the Cavalier. And the Aveo was to just replace the Metro and lower end of the Cavalier spectrum.
JDMCivic 03-13-2005, 06:22 PM But the only diffrence is that it is a Neon SRT4 on a Neon Platform
It is on the Neon platform but is a completely different car. Dodge produce the SRT-4 as a seperate entity. It may look like the Neon, but technicially, it is an entirely different car.

an srt-4 is not a neon, a coblat is not a supercharged cavalier... yes, a cobra is still a ford, and yelling VTEC really DOES add 20+hp..

So it's on the Neon platform, has the Neon body, the Neon basic suspension setup, yet.. it's a different car? The only people that think this way are people that are too insecure with the fact that it's a Neon. It's the same people that think your manhood is directly connected to the model and make of car that you drive. It's built in the same plant, right down the street from me, might I add, as the regular Neon. Then Dodge (Mitsu) straps some OEM aftermarket equipment to it to make it a bad ass car. It's a NEON. If people just didn't car what the car was called, it wouldn't even matter. Yet, some people are so terrifed that people might look down on them, the make some stand against calling it a Neon. To a common person on the street, it's a fast Neon, plain and simple. Denial is not just a river in Egypt, it's ok, it's Neon. I'd totally play of that angle too. I'd enjoy the look on people's faces even more smoking them in a Neon than a Saturn.
I would also agree that the Cobalt is the new Cavilier. What's wrong with that? It's less of a Cavilier than the SRT is a neon, at least it's a different body. It's still the replacement for the Cavilier, if it were built on the same chassis, the would even call it that. People wanna think there's no difference, let em think that. It's how people felt about the SRT-4 for quite a while, now they're all over the freakin place! Don't let someone rile you up over the NAME of you car, wait till they out run u, then get mad.
So it's on the Neon platform, has the Neon body, the Neon basic suspension setup, yet.. it's a different car? The only people that think this way are people that are too insecure with the fact that it's a Neon..
i read enough..
your absolutely right.. it IS a neon..
...oh yea.. the Cobalt IS a supercharged Cavalier.. ;) ...
....What?.. to insecure to admit it?
JDMCivic 03-14-2005, 12:56 PM Go to Dodge's website. If it wasn't a seperate car, it wouldn't be listed as one. Rather, it'd be listed as a trim of the Neon.
I'm not going to argue with you again, I'm just pointing out the fact that Dodge has them listed as two seperate cars.
Game over.

Ummm... ok... I think you're just still sore about the Honda garbage thing, too bad... Dodge listed them as two cars because sheep like you would think it wasn't a Neon if they called it something else. How about the Dodge Magnum and the SRT-8 are they different cars? How about a Camaro and a TransAm? Maybe the Chevy 1500 series P/Us and the GMC 1500s are the same truck too. Try to understand that people are talking about the ACTUAL car, not the message that the marketing people are sending. It requries some independent thought for this one.
ZX1100F1 03-14-2005, 05:26 PM You can call the new Cobalt SS a "Vega" for all I care!
I had a chance to drive the car at a GM ride-and-drive event and it is great fun and a very nice package, it fills a perfect niche with younger, high performance oriented buyers which is a market that Chevrolet has not tapped for years.
The platform (or chassis) that most performance car are sitting on are often that of a far more sedate vehicle but that in no way can take away from any of the exhilaration that the high performance machine evokes, whether it be a Neon, a Cobalt, a Subaru Impreza or even a VW Golf, the performance versions of the cars based on these chassis’s are formidable by any standard.
I just don’t see the point of this thread.

Oh well anyway...It doesent matter cause every car company has a similar spin off of a certain model in another company (toyota/lexus....Chevy/GMC....ACURA/HONDA) So don't get caught up on that. The fact is you can't make a manufactuer call something it's not....SRT-4 totally different Owners manual/engine/badging/etc...The same with the Cobalt. I'm not bashing it by calling it a Neon, I could care less what it's called. Same with the Cobalt, I still call it the 'new Cavilier'. As a matter of fact I do live about 20 min from the plant, right off the interstate, ton of Neons sitting of to the left of the plant. If you sit an Integra next to an RSX, there is nothing that looks the same about them. Could you call it one? It's really up to you. I don't think there's anything wrong with calling it one. I just don't see how you can call and SRT-4 anything other than a Neon SRT-4. That's my opinion. It's not taking anything away from the car, I would love to play the angle even. It really seems the people that either drive one or want one, really have an issue with it being a Neon, but it is. Just so happens to be a bad ass Neon.
CoBIZZLE 03-15-2005, 11:07 AM Actually, the Cobalt is on a WHOLE NEW platform. I wouldn't say its just a supercharged Cavalier for that aspect. It does share the Ecotec platform wiht the Cavaliers. But if you wanna say its a Cavalier cause of that then you might as well call the Camaro, Trans AM, GTO, CTS-V all a bunch of Corvettes.
I would however consider a SRT-4 a Neon because well its on the same platform even though it has a COMPLETELY different drivetrain and for the simple fact that its called a Neon. They even offer SRT-4 appearance packages now for base line Neons. But sayin all that doesn't mean that I don't like the SRT-4. I still think its a BAD ASS car, just the same as I think the SS's and RL's are BAD ASS cars. The drivetrains are different but that doesn't mean that they are differnt cars.
A V6 Camaro is still a Camaro. etc. Im just over the fact that its a Neon.
Hell, I've heard plenty of comments from SRT-4 owners even SAYING stuff like "You just got beat by a NEON, BITCH!!!" Saw it on a video, dude was racin a 3rd gen Camaro. He was yellin at him while they were still drivin down the road. Personally I would have kicked his ass just for callin me a bitch if he woulda been talkin to me. LOL :D

WTF are you talking about????
The Cavalier is sitting on the old antiquated J-car platform while the Cobalt is perched atop GM's new Delta platform.
Other than sharing the Ecotec motor there is virtually no similarities between these two chassis's and one test drive will verify this fact post haste.

Dude, think before you speak. You just said EXACTLY what I said, yet you say WTF am I talkin about?!?! I said Ecotec platform, meaning the Ecotec design of engines!!!! TheEcotec was never any kind of chassis design!!! I also said that the Cobalt is on a WHOLE NEW PLATFORM!!!! (By that I meant the chassis, i realize I used the term platform on both but when I said ECOTEC you should have realized that I meant the ENGINES!!!) The only reason I didn't state the name of that chassis platform is cause I cant remember what its called. Its Delta or something like that but I cant remember for sure. RE Read if you have to.
ZX1100F1 03-15-2005, 01:19 PM Dude, think before you speak.

CoBIZZLE 03-15-2005, 09:02 PM RE: "Ecotec platform"????

Straight from the Merriam-Webster Online dictionary:
Main Entry: plat·form
Pronunciation: 'plat-"form
Function: noun
Usage: often attributive
Etymology: Middle French plate-forme diagram, map, literally, flat form
1 : PLAN, DESIGN
2 : a declaration of the principles on which a group of persons stands; especially : a declaration of principles and policies adopted by a political party or a candidate
3 a (1) : a usually raised horizontal flat surface; especially : a raised flooring (2) : a device or structure incorporating or providing a platform; especially : such a structure on legs used for offshore drilling (as for oil) b : a place or opportunity for public discussion
4 a : a usually thick layer (as of cork) between the inner sole and outer sole of a shoe b : a shoe having such a sole
5 a : a vehicle (as a satellite or aircraft) used for a particular activity or purpose or to carry a usually specified kind of equipment b : a computer architecture that uses a particular operating system
Check out NUMBER 1 the ECOTEC PLATFORM is a PERFECTLY way of getting my point across. Its an engine design that was planned... oh look it fits both qualifications to be a PLATFORM. A platform is not just a chassis! It can be a design for anything.
And I didn't just type that up here's the link to prove it...
Merriam Webster (http://www.m-w.com/)
Just type in PLATFORM and you'll see it plain as day.

ZX1100F1 03-16-2005, 08:33 AM Don't see were Merriam Webster’s definition of the word "platform" has the slightest thing to do with your misuse of the phrase "Ecotec platform" nice streeeetch though.
It wasn't your English or grammar that I was questioning; it's your lack of automotive knowledge.
I didn’t realize we were playing tennis, a sissy game anyhow.
CoBIZZLE 03-16-2005, 09:37 AM Dude I really dont wanna get into this. People use the term platform all the time when speaking of engines, i.e. the LSX platform based engines: LS1,2,4,6,7 and truck engines. Me saying that in no way shows that I have a lack of automotive knowledge, I was just breaking it down real elementary for you. Seriously, I apologized for overreacting, stop trying to get smart. Its getting old and annoying fast.
Oh and just because you are employeed by GM doesn't mean that you are a car guru or somethin now. Not sayin that you aren't very intelligent when it comes to cars but you dont even know me yet you say that I have a lack of automotive knowledge just because YOU misinterpreted what I said. Remember that its harder to interpret what others intend to say on a computer because you aren't speaking directly to their face. You shouldnt have just been a smartass right off the bat.

You obviously didn't use enough industry terms and acronyms for this guy. Or he just felt like making you out to be stupid. I understood what you wrote the first time I read it.
In terms of the car names, people can either be smarter than the marketing department, or they can be sheep. The only people that don't want their car called something it's not is the person that owns the car and has a diffferent image for it. You're exactly right about the engine packages, I suppose my Camaro, which I completely swapped the drivetrain out of, is now a new car of my own design. I could call it the 'Chris', yea, born out of the SPD (Spooner Performacen Division) of Spooner Motors. It's funny though, the first thing most people that own Neon SRT-4's, love telling people they got smoked by a Neon, until you tell them they own a Neon. Then it's an insult.
CoBIZZLE 03-16-2005, 04:28 PM You obviously didn't use enough industry terms and acronyms for this guy. Or he just felt like making you out to be stupid. I understood what you wrote the first time I read it.

I obviously have no personal problem you as you have said “I don’t even know you” it was just that I had never heard anyone refer to an engine in relations to a cars “platform” that is all.
The base Malibu, the old Cavalier & Sunfire the new Cobalt & Ion all use the Ecotec motor(s) but it is simply an engine used on several of GM’s platforms (chassis’s).

The Cobalt is not a Cavalier.
The RSX is an Integra, just rebadged. JDM Honda Integra.
The SRT-4... well, I'm a "sheep", so...
Platform in this sense refers to chassis. CoBIZZLE had a typo that was jumped upon. I think we are all intelligent enough to comprehend what he meant. Perhaps if you cannot figure that out, you're a "sheep"...
CoBIZZLE 03-16-2005, 10:19 PM The thing is that I dont consider it a typo! I have heard many people use the term platform for engine designs. Especially for ones that have variations like the famed LS series engines that I mentioned earlier and the Ecotecs.
And yes I understand where he could have misunderstood me, I shouldn't have used the term back to back like that when speaking of two different subjects in the same paraphrase.
And again I would like to apologize for gettin out of hand... again.
ZX1100F1 03-16-2005, 10:24 PM The thing is that I dont consider it a typo!
This is why I haven't dropped it.
Your wrong and you’re trying to convince everyone that you’re right, I understood what you meant but that don't make it right.
Oh well, call whatever you want it.
CoBIZZLE 03-16-2005, 10:36 PM Im not tryin to make ANYBODY think that Im right, I just wont let ANYBODY tell me what to think. Although it does seem to be that you are tryin to make everybody, including myself, think that I AM wrong. Thats like Peter Jennings callin a car hood a freakin BONNET(he has before live), cause he's from... wherever he's from that calls hoods bonnets. That doesn't make him OR ME wrong. Its like a cultural difference or something, who cares. Make your own decisions. If you dont like my word choice then I am sorry. I just tried to explain my way of wording it (dictionary) and my point and now everyone understands what I meant by my original post on that topic, game over for me. Like I said I apologize for losin it. And I dont wanna argue over this, its stupid on everybody's part and a waste of time. Im really not tryin to be a smart@ss. Im just tryin to drop this entire subject I've even sent you a presonal message apologizing for this whole conflict!

Maybe it's your ignorant subject lines that sit on the top of your messages screaming 'I'm a jerk', while you attempt to tell people that you have no problem.
So you've never heard the statement 'The _____ engine is a good platform to build off.'? Or would you jump all over them and tell that that their use of the english language is incorrect as well. Since platform is being used to decribe the engine? Perhaps we're too simple. I mean, we actually use layman's terms to describe things, which everyone but yourself understood just fine. Man, he uses a word once, to describe something in a slightly off-color way, and now he's trying to change the way the world uses the word? No, not quite...
I particuarly enjoy your use of platform(chassis), just to rub it in, in the post as well. Nice job.

Not trying to argue about anything, just to point out to others that that link is poison. About JDM's link, that's cool, but... it's not an active http:// yadayada. woohoo.com link either. You could be led to a porn site or whatever because it's just verbage with a hidden hyperlink attached to it. It's all about trust. I felt like the guys here and on redlineforums were out to build a community, so I put some trust into links being safe.
If I wind up on someone's webpage looking at a humor animation, mpeg or whatever, I do not click on just any link that is there. The big problem I have with the link from black mike's post is it took me to his YO YO Homies page and while I was trying to translate his ramblings into english I got a dialog box that asked me to reset my home page to a spyware based search engine. Click, no. Now comes a box for "bullseye network" that just will not go away. That was just one of 5 SW programs that autoloaded just by allowing that URL to load in my browser. Time in control panel's add/remove, time with spybot s&d, recheck - reboot = 55mins. Maybe you don't mind having spyware on your hard drive, but I cannot stand it. It is an invasion of my privacy and it does slow down things (I have Win98 SE)
Bullseye, on it's way off my computer, let me know that it got there by either software or a website that was sponsored by the bullseye network. BINGO! YO YO Homie web page is a freebie that poisons everyone that visits it. So , in exchange for a spot on the Internet to get his message out, black mike is willing to let everyone that visits his site get a good dose of computer clap.
That's it, I'm done. Like I said, I did not start out to argue, just inform - Inform the members here and the Admin. That way maybe no one else will get a good dose of the 'puter clap.

ArrivalBlueSS 04-01-2005, 03:39 PM How much torque does the RSX-S have ? Is it 200ft/lbs ? Some of the dynos I have seen put it at about 127 peak. They have to wring that engine out at 8000 rpms to get 210 HP. Basically stealing torque away to get the HP. Not saying it's a bad or good thing but you have to at least consider that when your comparing the different cars.
