: So, why not a 2005 Mustang GT?
Scourge 03-09-2005, 04:47 PM Well, I was looking at the Mustang GT (no, I'm not getting that either) and was just wondering why you've chosen the Cobalt SS/SC over the Mustang GT? It's only a few G's more and you get more power and it's RWD for you dragsters. Please back up your answers. If you say reliability, let's hear why.
Maybe I'll take one out for a test drive sometime soon. Like tomorrow. :D
My guess is I'll have problems with the weight. Cornering is no fun in a heavy car though I hear it handles well.
CD'srt 03-09-2005, 05:18 PM A GT wouldn't be a bad car to have, if you didn't mind the gas price, and the fact that some peeps just aren't Ford fans. Plus the ins for the GT would be higher then the Cobalt, but that's just my guess. And a lot more maintnance, their a pain to work on, like changing the spark plugs, or trany fluid, or just the headers alone is a pain.....
87camaroPA 03-09-2005, 05:25 PM Ok here we go....... For one i am not a ford fan. And for second i belive the car butt ass ugly it is just the ugilest car i have ever seen it just does absolutly nothing for me.
The reson that i the Cibalt over Mustang is that i have had a RWD car for three years and it snows alot were i live and i would like to have a FWD car that is fast and will still go in the snow.
O and i would rather have a 06 Z-06 Corvette!
JDMCivic 03-09-2005, 05:40 PM You're from Canada, right?
Well, I wouldn't reccommend a RWD in a wintery climate.
MrCleanY0 03-09-2005, 06:04 PM $$$$$ <-----that is it right there. I got my Red Line for about 17k and a new mustang GT is starting at like 25k (I think).

No but here in PA it is wierd it tends to snow a decent amount and the simple fact that i live on a hill and they dont plow very offten when it snows.
JDMCivic 03-09-2005, 06:14 PM I was refering to Scourge.
I live in NorthEast PA. My car sucked the past few days in the snow.
Nocturn 03-09-2005, 07:30 PM Some of us want a car with some originality, in car, and in its owners. To many people own mustangs.

So true it is sicking how many there are out there but any like new cars they will be out plaied so we will see how many Cobalt SS's hit the street.

Yes thouse also and to boot two of them are Fords. LOL J/K
CoBIZZLE 03-09-2005, 09:46 PM No mustang here cuz I'm a Chevy guy. Right now Id like the Cobalt cuz of its better gas mileage than a V8, GREAT handling, its fast, etc. As far as FWD/RWD goes: This is an awesome enough Frontwheeler for me and for the RWD... I'll be faithfully waiting for the new Camaro!!!!! If it ever comes :(

We've got something called "winter beaters". :D Just a POS that a little more rust isn't going to make a difference. I don't think I'm going to drive my next car in the winter. Sure you can rust proof it but moving parts do pose a problem (rubbing).
Personally, I like the idea of an I4 beating a V8. :) Those Dodge Rams with Hemis think they're tough $hit until you smoke them.
if your looking for a car to hadle well in snow, an AWD car would be best;
wrx-sti-evo-etc... depending on how much you got... used/ new, doesnt matter...
to the poster:
i would get the Cobalt for the following reasons
1. ima chevy guy
2. i'd prefer something newerER
3. i personally prefer a sport compact
4. it would be cheaper

I wouldn't mind having the aztec and then modding it into the specila verison that was done later with ground effects and a huge engine it was beautiful, the 2 fords ill take the box its a concept gots to be wort at least a mil, or they can put it in a museum for one of the fads in the 00's.
CoBIZZLE 03-09-2005, 10:37 PM If I had that lil red car I would get it goin about 20 or 30 towards that ocean and do a lil James Bond roll outa that BIATCH!!!!!!! and just hope it could get over the curb. Thats a pretty small car. A curb like that could stop that thing DEAD in its tracks... lol
ooh ooh put some boards down and use em as a ramp....

xtremegrandam 03-10-2005, 06:19 AM I like the new mustang for the most part. I love the exterior styling but some of the interior I have mixed feelings about. Performance is great and you cant beat a V8 manual and I love the upgrades stereos. However, I'm leasing my cobalt SS/SC and for me to do that with the Mustang GT would be well over what I want to pay right now. Plus the only dealership that doesnt have the mustang GT marked up is over an hour from my house. But really the man reason is the price for the lease and probably insurance everything else I could live with
Gravorg 03-10-2005, 07:47 AM I thought about a mustang, but I live in a military town and every kid out of boot camp with no bills to pay is buying them. I see 30-40 different '05 mustangs a day. They are nice cars, decent proformance, but they have few frills and I get a GM discount, so I am staying with General Motors. :D
BlownSS 03-10-2005, 08:37 AM No mustang here cuz I'm a Chevy guy. CoBIZZLE, the Camaro is debuted to return in 2007... just about the time to upgrade from the cobalt...
Sp00ner 03-10-2005, 08:54 AM All I've seen is rumors that the Camaro is going to return, along with alot of 'authentic' computer generated images that look completely different from each other. There's some serious legal issues with using the Camaro name unless they build it in Canada, and the St. Therese plant. I did just hear that GM allocated 1 billion dollars for Canada plant operations though! I wouldn't hold onto that 2007 date quite yet, I'm a HUGE Camaro fan, have never owned anything else until my last two Saturns, I've had 5 different Camaro/Firebirds.
That's one reason I didn't get a Mustang, another is the cost. $26,000 before dealers realize what a hot ticket they are, I know there is already a dealer upcharge starting around here due to demand. My Redline was $18,000 before financing. Gas would be an issue, although if you take it easy there's no reason it will get much worse gas mileage than a blown or turbo engine. The new Vette gets the almost the same gas mileage as the Cobalt/Redline. RWD isn't that bad in the snow anymore, not like in the '70s and '80s, my '90 Camaro RS with snow tires had fine traction, I drove it in a blizzard where we got 18" of snow. I would assume that traction/stability control are available, and I see plenty of Corvette's driving around the area during the winter. I would assume that most of the people here are either Chevy folks, who would rather have a pole shoved up their ass, rather than drive a 'rust'ang. Or, they can't afford the $5,000+ change in price. I had a hard time saying no to one, but without a Camaro available, the next car I get could be one if GM dosen't change that situation. I'm a V8-RWD guy that's just emerging from being trapped in a I4-FWD financial situation. My only other option is the GTO, and that's got a much larger sticker price.
CoBIZZLE 03-10-2005, 09:50 AM Performance is great and you cant beat a V8 manual and I love the upgrades stereos.
For one thing, their so called "upgraded stereos" SUCK!!!
They sound ok until the very small factory amp which is too big for the POS speakers the use blows a speaker or two away. Or until you want to get a new head unit.
I worked at Circuit City installing mobile electronics for almost a year and a half (until they closed our location) and now Im at Best Buy installing. The Mustang Mach 1 systems just plain suck. If you put a new head unit in one and just one of the speakers isn't still reading a perfect 4 ohms your gonna have problems. You basically have to do a FULL rewire on the car most of the time.

Yeah Ive heard that too but its like Spooner says, its just rumors right now... We can only hope.
BlownSS 03-10-2005, 11:51 AM Spooner, why is GM not allowed or having trouble building the Camaro name in the States? I knew it was rumored but a freind of mine works at a plant and said it is looking more possible everyday. I really hope they bring it back i just sold my 88 Iroc and im tired of waiting for its replacment - Cobalt ss

Are you talking about last years system that were in the 04 Mustangs? Because they have the new shaker 500 and 1000 in the new ones. I wouldnt know about how long they hold up and stuff like that I just know my impressions from test driving vehicles.
I have a friend that has a 04 Mustang Convertible with the Mach 3000 (I believe) and it sounds decent for a stock setup but the new ones sound better than the previous mustang's radios. Thats all that I meant by that. If your a really big car audio person your most likely not going to leave anything at stock form.
JDMCivic 03-10-2005, 05:48 PM Thats a pretty small car. A curb like that could stop that thing DEAD in its tracks... lol
When my Civic got broadsided, I was pushed into a curb. It stopped me dead until the axle broke and my wheel slid up the curb.

Im talkin about the Mach systems in the mid 90's Mustangs. I've actually never had to do any speakers in a really new mustang.

I didn't say they sounded bad I just said the ones that Ive had experience with had very poor speakers in them, just sayin that the speakers weren't tough enough (so to speak) for the amp and that it is a PAIN in the arse to have to rewire them.
If your a really big car audio person your most likely not going to leave anything at stock form.
Thats why I hate them. CHANGING them!! lol It is really way more difficult than it needs to be. Fords amplified systems are nothin but drama. Then again neither is Nissans or any stock amplified system for that matter. I personally would only buy the most BASIC of BASE stereo systems for any car that I'll ever buy and just redo it myself. Cuz the factory just CANT get it right. The only vehicle that I'll be buying w/ a premium AMPLIFIED system is cars where it is standard like Camaro SS w/ the stupid Monsoon system. Im a HUGE Camaro fan but Im not a fan of the Monsoon system either. Oh and the Cobalt. The audio is not an option cuz I'll be getting the LSD & Recaro seat package and I think the "premium" 7 speaker Pioneer system including a (10"?) sub in the back. Oh well audio drama, but sport compact performance NIRVANA :D
CoBIZZLE 03-10-2005, 10:45 PM On most any factory amplified system its usually easier to just bypass the factory amp and run your own 4 channel for the mids/highs.

The basic story, is that the plant where GM built the cars has a contract, from WAYYYYY back when. It limits the use of the Camaro name to be built in any plant other than the original one. The contract runs through 2010, I believe. If GM wants to build another Camaro somewhere else, they have to basically ensure that the plant recieves enough work, to equal the workforce needed to run the plant when they built the Camaro. See where I'm going with this? It's basically a labor contract that GM has gotten out of thus far, by not using the Camaro name. I also heard a lot of rumor that if something couldn't be worked out, they would call the car a Chevelle, and make it that way. The rumor of a RWD V8 from Chevy with a retro look and 'blistering' engine packages is very legit. The specifics of what and how it goes down is very hush-hush still. That's why I said that the huge cash influx that GM sent the the Canadaian develpment centers is very promising.

Ehhh They plant had a contract with GM that as long as it existed it had to be built there, but since its gone now they can rebuild the Camaro. From what I have herd it will NOT be retro, as GM wants a new car, not something that gets old after 3 years and sales plumit, so it most likely wont be retro. It will probably be based on a modified Zeta plaftorm, or a lengthened Kappa platform. With the 5.3L V8 as the Z28 engine, and the 6.0 LS2 as the SS engine with some V6 being base model.

That makes sense I have never been or looked at one of the older mustang's. I just know about the former style and not the older ones. I will agree though the system is a pain to access the speakers or anything else. I do most the car audio and other work on my friends vehicles and it just seems like the fords dont make it as simple. (But maybe thats their point) Hopefully you will get a chance to work with one of the new ones I think the system has probably improved but who knows yet the mustang is only 7 months old now. The speakers could die in a few months for all I know. But I see what your talking about now. I thought you were probably referring to the older ones.
I'm just hoping the Cobalt SS/SC's system is good enough stock and the speakers dont blow. I really dont want to get into putting in a new stereo and keeping the old stereo stuff safe until the lease is over (because I am leasing)

Here's the info I was working off of. If that's no longer correct, that makes me smile as much as anything. They actually sued GM to win this right to the Camaro name until 2017 since the Canadian govm't handed out a multi-million dollar loan with no interest, with the promise that the plant would stay open. GM might try to make the car somewhere else, but the lawsuit that would ensure would make it real hard. Did they already tear down the plant?
Officially, GM wanted to tear down the plant because of their belief the property was more valuable as a vacant lot than a 2.1 million square-foot plant, much too large for just about any use other than a high-production vehicle factory. Keep in mind, however, that the plant also had a mandate that it would be the sole source for Camaros and Firebirds. It now begins to come into focus that any comment on a future Camaro or Firebird prior to the plant's disposal, via sale or demolition, perhaps could very well create a situation where GM would be compelled to keep the plant. From a legal perspective, it might be construed that any future car that carried the name Camaro or Firebird would have to be made at this plant, at least till 2017, the year all Canadian government loans are to be repaid.

It happened last March.
My whole passenger door was pushed in 8 inches. The passenger seat was being forced up from the side of te car being pressed against it. I could stick my hand down thru where the door is supposed to seal with the frame. My Civic was totaled and both me and my passenger walked out, freezing cold and pissed off. We did get an excused absence from school tho, seeing as it was a school district bus that broadsided me.

The Jetta is running better, I think I got it fixed. It ended up being a mix of water in the gas and a loose fuel injector wire connector.
I would love to get that Si, but I think I'll wait for something better and faster.
I'm thinking maybe a sport bike this summer too. I'd love a mid 90s Ninja ZX-6. I always said when I graduated high school I'd get a sport bike.

I am seriously considering keeping the Jetta and getting a sport bike this summer.
I think a 600 would be perfect. I can go to the local bike shop and get a loan for a bike and pay ~100/month plus insurance.
Ted really did have a good post. He knows what he's talking about. That ZX-6 write-up was really good too.

Plus insurance. That is just the bike payment. That is over 3 years too, 1/3 of which the bike will be garaged, so is it really that cheap?
Soon I will go to the local shop and check out the stock. I'll see if hey have anything to offer me. I'll find out about insurance too.
ah, i see..
im actually looking for a new car as my toy..
check your PM's on SCR :)

You and me both!!! I REAAAALLLYYYY DONT wanna mess with that amplified system mainly because stock radios just look so much smoother than a black plastic dashkit (unless maybe you have a darker colored dash) and a DIN sized radio. They look alright in most cases but if you take a look at the Cobalt Then that would be one GAUDY lookin dashkit!!! I have an Alpine in my truck now and it looks okay but sometimes when a stereo was designed to go with the look of a car then it just looks best to leave it stock. And plus if Im gonna HAVE to pay the price for the upgraded system, then I wanna get some use out of it.

Have you ever had a bike before??? If not then a 600 would be a perfect starter bike, and IMO good enough for an experienced rider too. Unless your a speed demon on adrenalinic steroids. (<==== hehe I made that word up)

It'd be my first bike. I've been reading alot about the zx6 and it sounds pretty good.
CoBIZZLE 03-17-2005, 10:05 PM I personally prefer Yamaha!!! I love the whole brand. I have a waverunner now and no other STOCK naturally aspirated PWC can touch it :D
Yeah they have super & turbocharged PWC's now! Some pushin out as much as 215HP!!! Too bad I only got about 155hp. Still thats a LOT for a seat strapped to an engine HAHA!! Anywho back on topic, I would LOVE to have an R6 or an R1, either of the two would satisfy me.
