: Bigger injectors???
BlackSS05 10-20-2005, 10:52 PM I see alot of people complaining about their car running too lean after installing a CAI. Would it help if you got bigger injectors or would that be a waste of money right now? Do you need to get the computer reprogrammed or will it even itself out with bigger injectors?
CobaltGuy 10-21-2005, 12:15 AM Im not sure, i do know you that if you get a smaller pulley, that you do have to get bigger injectors. Thats what GM said on street tuner challenge when they where building their cobalt ss. They said the more boost you have, the more fuel you got to have. This might be the same situation....not sure...
dazednconfused75 10-21-2005, 01:42 AM The lean code is completely the fault of the ECU and injectors will not help. Psi-Fi toyed with the idea of including injectors with their pulley kit but found that the car didn't like them. They don't include them and the cars that have their kit do not go lean at all with their piggyback and a smaller pulley. If/when GM comes out with the upgrades, the bigger injectors will probably be used. Bigger injectors are a waste of money right now.
jmc007 10-21-2005, 09:27 PM Even with some dyno testing we've done today on my car, it is not easy to say with is really causing the fact that the car is too lean. I would like to think more seriously about that, study it and post true things, but no BS or speculation.

Looking forward to your data after you have time to study it.

ExHondaMan 10-22-2005, 12:08 PM The car IS NOT too lean with an intake... How would it be ? The PCM just THINKS its lean... due to the readings it is getting with the new CAI installed...
jmc007 10-22-2005, 01:03 PM Exhondaman, have you got your car dynoed with your air / fuel measured before and after the CAI ? If the PCM throw a lean code, it's not just because he thinks that it's leaner, but because of the MAF sensor who have really reads a higher frequency. Surely the fact of getting a lean code won't necessary tell that the car is TOO lean, but surely leaner than without CAI. GM seems to volontarily include a program that is very fastidious and didn't tend to adjust itself a lot when air volume varies by more than a little range. Please guys wait for SEMA to see what will be the GM stages or simply buy the PSI-FI kit if you can't wait. I do not recommend installing a smaller pulley AND a cai AND a header ... How did the car will feed more fuel for the massive increased of air volume wit the stock PCM program ?
cobalt ss 717 10-26-2005, 06:07 PM hmmm mine is on and off, code read too lean, its been going on and off since i put my intake in, then i got a smaller pulley. idk what to do with it now?

LaNtRa 10-27-2005, 09:27 AM Do you know when the GM stages are coming out? Anyone?
dervin3 10-27-2005, 12:55 PM Am I the only one NOT getting the lean code?
HeppyCat 10-27-2005, 01:51 PM I'm not dervin, but I am gettin a rich code :( which is not at all related to a CAI
1stBluSS 10-27-2005, 02:02 PM 1st Heppycat's avatar is hilarious. Something about that little fat blob running makes me laugh. 2nd the staged upgrades are going to be viewed first at the SEMA show in November this is when the prices will be released. So expect a few months of waiting after that. I would think around march 06. Also k and n promises no codes to be thrown so I would contact someone there about the lean issue. To my knowledge GM techs are not that happy to help out with modded vehicles. I was talking to a tech the other day and he was bitching about how kids go and put this crap in their car's and expect us to help them with it. To that I replied is that not your job ? Then ugly things happenened and my dealer asked me to leave, but that is another story for another day. In general however when you make a change to your vehicle you should always flash your comp. They should adjust on their own but computers and chips whether in a car or in a house only know what you tell them.

Ok, anyone not getting any codes of any type?

I second that. Started after I installed the intake though, and I expected it to be a lean code, but it was just the opposite. Haven't had the code set though for months, so I never really had it checked out.
fleckenwhat 10-28-2005, 02:50 AM i got the lean code twice now, and it didnt happen until 1500 miles after i installed the intake. this prompted me to buy a cheap reader, and i am constantly flashing 4 pendings. can anyone speculate on what these soft codes are? i did notice that after hard driving i do smell my cat pretty bad.

That makes two of us. Hell I have the header, CAI, 2.85 pulley, Catback and I have a little secret item that ADDS!!!! FUEL on my car. Oh and yes not one single code EVER!!
Clownhair I heard you blew a trans that sucks what happened.
dervin3 10-28-2005, 11:09 PM What I don't get is how come people get the lean code a while after it's installed. Shouldn't it be lean from the beginning? I've had mine on for 2 weeks and drove under extremely high loads ;) to cruise control to everything in between and still no CEL.

The differential pin sheared off and shot out the case of the tranny.
BlackSS05 10-29-2005, 08:38 PM I am soooo FREAKIN happy for you guys. I wish I could say the same for the no CEL thingy. Guess I have to wait for the stage kits to come out to make that damn yellow light go away.
fleckenwhat 10-30-2005, 03:23 AM is anyone else smelling their cat/o2 getting hot with the cai?

The guys said you could not test it because of your tranny so I got the call. Works great you will be happy. We have been playing with it for a few days. I should have final dyno numbers soon but I think I am into the 300 :D plus land. With all my tricks and my new Clutch which I am very happy with. I will give everyone a the site a update when I get all my ducks in a row.
