With a little over 170 hp I would see the car running high 15's. My ss was dynoed at 219 with only a drop in filter and the best time I ran was a 14.6

You should do your best to convince her to get the real ss. It looks much better with the intercooler and once you get used to the short throw it is a very easy stick to drive.

mid 15's....ok. Her Sunfire(LD9)2.4L runs 16.0. not 15's cause ..yea,you guessed it,its an auto.
Youre right,get a S/C SS... I(as in me) wuold :)
BUT
She wont even TRY to learn to drive stick. She refuses to learn on My Camaro(prob a good idea anyways)
Im the enthusiast, shes the "I like power to pass" only driver.
Im sure you get it.....
Price and auto ins are playing a roll here too.....S/S=more$.
Thank you for the input,
ANd 14.6 = cool for you!
I raced a WRX(stock) aat the track
He ran 14.5@91........AWD obviously.
Funny too, because he told his friend,as he looked at My Camaro "thats one of those old pushrod engines".
well ....it turned out ok. :)

You're looking at mid-high 15's for the 2.4 and the sky's probably the limit with the 2.2, I can only imagine it with an auto. If she wants a little pep with pretty good mileage then go with the 2.4. If mileage is the biggest concern, go with the 2.2. It definitely excels. 1500 miles and I'm averaging 30mpg says the info center in the gauge cluster.

I don't understand the base cobalts. My '03 cavalier base 5-speed got 32-35mpg with a k&n filter. I'm driving a 2.2l auto cobalt ls right now while the ss is in the shop. It gets a little better on the highway, but is worse around town.

Maybe the gearing of the tranny unless it is the exact same tranny, then I have no clue?
