Hello all I am new here I ordered my 06 Lazerblue cobalt ss/sc i should have it in about 5 weeks i got the LSD option dealer said that i could not have the colored inserts w/ the LSD option which i feel is BS but they are "trying to get me what i want" i think the car will show up w/ the blue inserts but lsd more help then the inserts

I found this on the stage 1 and 2 upgrades
GM Performance hoss John Heinricy says he expects a 20 percent power boost from the Stage 2 kit “when all is said and done.” That’s about 246 hp and 240 lb-ft, if you’re keeping score.

The LSD comes with Recaro Seats not with inserts, its the G85 package and welcome to the site.

this is what your seats will look like

I love those seats. G85 option was not available in Canada for '05. now available for '06. LSD is what I really want though.

When I do the fly wheel and clutch I guess I will do the gears and LSD.
Then the motor will get more power.
then suspension, 17inch tires

back on topic - cant wait to see the stage 1 and 2 kits. Any idea what it will do to ones warranty? I would think it will not effect it, but..... (you can fill in the gap)

I'm sure that they will say it will not affect your remaining factory/extended warranty..... however if you do have a problem and need some major repair, they will try to make you pay...like always :p

I know about the LSD, but what have you found in gears to change the ratios?

I have read that the F35/MU3 comes from the F25 which is the Saab transmission. The F25 does have gear ratio selections. The F25 even has a 6 speed upgrade.

I put together a webpage with the ratios at http://www.fastfieros.com/NEW_manual_transmission_ratios.htm

Well I wasnt thinking of actually changing specific gears. dont know if that can be done.

What I was meaning is change from factory to what the GM performance team uses which is from 4.05 to 4.45 final drive.

To the best of my knowledge the only available method of altering the gear ratios on the F35 is via the final drive. I am aware of 2 additional FD gearsets besides the stock 4.05:1. Those being a 3.82:1 and a 4.45:1 final drive gearsets. I know he 4.45 gearset is being used on the Cobalt Grand Am Cup series cars, so part numbers should be available in the GM Sports Compact Build Book. For the 3.82 it is found in the F35 (model FM57) used in the Saab B207E (150HP) ECOTEC varient sold in various parts of the world. You might be able to get some PN#s from your local Saab dealer.

Just picked up the Nov/Dec issue of R&T Speed Magazine. Pg 20 has a little info for the Staged kits. No one is talking price until SEMA, but here's what they are saying:

Stage #1 = Higher flow injectors & ECU flash (Good for 20hp at the upper end of the RPM range.
Stage #2 = Smaller S/C Pulley (Approx. 20% power boost through the full RPM range).
The article says that translates to 240hp, but my calculator says both stages should come closer to 270hp (205+20=225*1.2=270)

Can't wait to see what the pricing is.

The problem is you're stacking the Stage 1 upgrade to the Stage 2- it doesnt work that way as far as GM is concerned. Both kits are referenced from 205HP as far as I can see- So stage 2 would be 205 x 1.2 = 246hp. Which makes sense as the Tuner Challenge program Cobalt and the Grand Am Cup series cars WITH both stages are being published at 246hp. Hopefully that's what we will se AT THE WHEELS!!

What everyone is hoping is that the Stage 1 reflash will raise the rev limiter to something close to 7000- we shall see.

I thought you needed better valve springs to do that....

I wonder if you want stage 2, will they charge you just the price of stage 2 or will they charge you for both stages since you need stage 1 to take advantage of stage 2?

It was a poorly worded article (or maybe I just really wanted it to mean that:)). Too bad, I liked 270 more. I've heard rumors that the ECM flash will bump the rev limit a little, but not from any source that I would consider "golden". That's a lot less additions than the earlier rumors, hope that means the price will be good (wait and see).

Of course, the way GM bills labor, if I let the dealership do that, it will still cost more than the car does:(.

I didn't have time to do the first oil change myself and the dealership told me $19 for a change so I thought "what the hell". When the cashier asked for $90 I about cried. I know Synthetic is not cheap, but holy-crap! Off to pep-boys for a case of oil and a filter next time! Lesson learned.

Ecotec build book recommends Bates Engineering springs to be able to reach 7500+ RPM.

EDIT:

Also gmperformancedivision.com has a neat article on a 300+ horsepower LSJ build up. Part 1 of 4 is out, but they elude to better valve springs as part of the build up at the end of part 1.

Look for the next installment in the near future where we'll document the assembly of the water pump and balance shaft, front drive system and the rebuilding of the cylinder head with performance valve spings

they said the kit would increase rpm to 7000 and you said you need different valave springs cause the book says over 7500 you need them. ??? so you wouldnt need new valve springs to run it up to 7000

No I agree that 7000 must be ok with stock valve train.

Valve springs are good at 7000
Case in point the 2.4 LE5 uses the exact same valve springs and they let it go to at least 6800 and to 7000 on the Solstice
