Hello :)
I know the GM Build Book features the 2.2 ltr. engine -- can these same parts and mods be used for the 2.4 ltr. non-S/C SS to increase hp and torque?
Also, can the B&M Pro Ratchet auto tranny shifter and installation kit be used as the 'only' mod to a 2.2 ltr. for an everyday driver? (page 130)
I am deciding whether to spend the money on my LS now and keep the car, or wait 'til Spring and trade it in on the 2.4 ltr. non-S/C SS. Thanks for your help :)

Can't resist a damsel in distress :D LOL j/k
GolfGirl, unfortunately most of the reciprocating internal parts mentioned in the Build Book will NOT work with the 2.4l LE5 as it's a different crankshaft (longer stroke) with larger bore and pistons.
For these reasons, it will probably be a while before you see any performance pistons/rods for the LE5.The connecting rods while being forged steel units are shorter than the other ECOTECs. The VVT cams are a different grind profile than non-VVT so it will also be a while before someone optimizes the grind to take full advantage of the system. The good news is the LE5 shares most of the other great internal and external features of other ECOTECs.
While the LE5 has a a nodular iron crank, it DOES have an "all-new" strengthend bottom end with over 2.5 lbs of additional material added to the block in strategic area to better support the crankshaft.PLUS it's using targeted oil squirters with an auxillary engine oil cooler (like the 2.0l LSJ) AND has a bigger throttle body and better flowing intake manifold compared to the 2.2l (L61)
So there's certainly a LOT of potential
Items such as headers, and exhaust should all either work directly or with minor modification- so if I were you I would pursue those options first. Maybe a drop-in K&N element will be available soon (if not already) JUST DONT OVER OIL IT!
After the exhaust, If I owned a 2.4 Cobalt I would definately look at spraying it with a 75 wetshot, combined with a maybe a KenneBelle Boost A Pump to insure adequate fueling. Should handle that with NO PROBLEMS
GOOD LUCK!!
