Has anyone fitted one of these on a Cobalt SS SC ? If so how was the install ? Any holes to drill or mods to be made ?

Also is the kit for the Saturn Redline the same part # as the SS SC ?

ThanX

Peace

When you installed your's did you adjust the damper or leave it at the factory setting which looks to be at the shortest length ? I don't want to over adjust it and I'm guessing the more (longer) you adjust it the more it will cause vibration. I will be installing this Friday.

Dude, I love your ride !!! Sweet Azz rims !!!
Anyway..... I just came outta my garage on trying to install the engine damper but ran into major fitment problems with the brackets, the engine side bracket was the worse. Had to rework/grind it so it would not touch the two motor mounts when tightened down. So after reworking them I had to put a fresh coat of paint on them. I will install tomorrow after the paint dries. Who ever ground the welds at the factory (so the bracket would lay flat and not touch/rub on the factory motor mounts) did a very crappy job !!! I can see why some people are reporting severe vibrations. I reworked the bracket so there would be at least 1/8" of clearence on all points, no metal to metal contact. I will give an update soon.

So, DL Rl, I thought Weapon R "fixed" this issue. Now, everyone I have heard that has gotten these, has had the same fittment issues, and crappy finishing on the welds. Should have gone with the ironman ones.

thanks for the compliment. by the way, those rims are for sale, only 1500 miles on them. anyway, does that dampner cause excess vibration? also, does it help alot with wheel hop? cause after i put this stuff on my car it definatly wont get ANY traction in ALL of first gear or the higher half of 2nd. if i could eliminate this, i would be like a sec faster in the quater....... by the way, i no this is kinda irrelivant but wuts the highest numbers anyone has seen on an SS s/c without n20?

Finally got it installed after reworking the hell out of the motor side bracket. It's been raining here all day/night so I won't get a chance to test it out till later. I'm also going to give Weapon-R a call tomorrow because the damper will not fit between the two brackets unless it's at the shortest\stiffest position. The brackets are located to close together and will not allow any lengthening\softening of the damper. I wish I would have bought the Iron-Man damper. I can't believe Weapon-R would sell such a pile of crap

I did install and test this before I had reworked the brackets and the car had severe vibrations and the engine\exhaust noise was much louder inside the car. This was because of the crappy fitment of the brackets which when bolted down left no clearence between anything (metal to metal contact).

Peace

I thought they did fix the issue..

The damper is not adjustable, it's always at it's stiffest settings. Which I would prefer over having to check the preload on the damper from time to time.

I've been happy with the product since i've gotten one and i'm not just saying that because I was the tester car..

I have close to no wheel hop, no noticed vibrations ( I have a exhaust and my tires are loud ) or weird noises. Inbetween shifts are way more solid..

Give Ray@Weapon-R a call, he is a good guy.

After a few test drives the weapon-r damper hardly made any difference at all except for the nasty vibrations when turning left.

I have spent way too many hours trying to tweek this POS !!!

Ray might be a goodguy but he doesn't like to answer his phone or return e-mails :(

I'm thinking of trying out the Ironman Development setup.

I'll give them a try, if they are crap again I will go with your set up. I think they will be the same brackets with minor adjustments and a much better weld grind/finish for fitment.

Well I received the replacement brackets and I must say the welds & finish looked 90% better then the first set except for the welded allen bolt that is 30 degrees off center on the frame side bracket. Went out to the garage to bolt them down and I find out that although they looked good they still have MAJOR fitment issues !!! This time the frame side bracket is the worst. I'm going to try and get my money back. I ordered the dual brace from Cynic, hopefully this one will be bug free.

WARNING - Stay away from Weapon-R !!!

Cynics braces seem to be well made. Other than grinding mine down for about 2 secs to fit exactly I have had no problems. If you don't have the ability or capability to do the grinding you can send it back to him and he will take care of it. Also the shipping is awesome he got mine out to me in like 3 business days and that was with all of the holiday shipping madness. Another thing is he is honest. I was not part of the group buy that garnished 10% off but because I bought my brace at around the same time he refunded 10% of my money how sweet is that !

In regards to having to grind it down, I test these on my vehicle before sending them out to you. The mount must be slightly worn on my car as they fit just fine. The grinding is on the rear notch and will not be an issue with anyone who has purchased in the group buy. Just need to make the notch a little bit longer is all.

As for shipping braces purchased in the group buy, I have obtained the second week of January off and will be finishing all braces and shipping them that week. I work as a claims adjuster and with all the vacations taken and claims coming in I've been stuck working a lot more than anticipated. I apologize for the delay in your product, but the second week of January is a steadfast ship time. I took a whole week of vacation to make sure things are handled for you folks. Thanks for your orders and your patience.

Actually that notch didn't seem to make much sense to me. It seems like it is meant so that the brace doesn't hit the wall of the mount but mine was no where near the wall of the mount where my fitment problem came in was the length of the brace it was too long. So therefore for it to fit around the threads properly and fit in the exisiting mount I had to grind it down. We may be talking about the same thing just using different terminology ? Or maybe I have the wrong bracket ?

Was the hole in too far for it to fit around the bottom part of the mount? Did you have to grind an edge so that you could get the thread in the hole?

1stBluSS
12-29-2005, 01:16 PM
That is exactly what was going on. The brace for the damper was'nt going over the threads completely. This was caused by the length of the brace making everything just slightly off. When I say slightly it was very slight but I am a perfectionist sooooo....... Hell maybe I put the bottom brace on wrong but there only seemed to be one way to do it. Hole with notch near it over thread. Damper connects to further hole ??

Length or hole misplacement I guess do the same thing. Not to worry though hitting the hole right everytime is difficult LOL

Sorry I have sick humor

lol nice.

On the ones that I've caught the problem on it wouldn't fit over the threads because the notch wasn't big enough. Haven't had one where I put the hole in the wrong place because I'm measuring in 32nds and each piece is marked before being drilled as well. Sorry for that trouble.

Well I would take it that if I drilled the whole out more then it would of done the same thing. Seings how that would of moved the brace back. I just decided to file it down. You say tomatoe I say tomA TO

I hear you on being bored. I am sitting here at work reading every single post that gets posted hoping I would have something to say. It is only 930 am here but at least it is about to be a 4 day weekend :) Military life is so boring in between the holidays.
