: Area just for 2.4 VVT?
sloNlow 11-20-2005, 05:01 PM Could not find a forum just for teh 2.4 so I figured I could ask it here.
1) Is the 2.4 going to be able to have the aftermarket the 2.2 currently has or will it be limited by the VVt?
2) Can the automatic handle forced induction as an upgrade? If so how much more power can it handle?
I own a 2.2L Eoc Cavalier I am "thinking" of trading in for the 2.4 but I may keep it and get a crate 2.2 with 170hp and then build that up.......Not sure just seeking opinions
Not a fan of the wing on the SS Supercharged, nor do I like a manual for daily driving so that is not an option for me.
Spoony 11-20-2005, 05:17 PM I'm not sure on the aftermarket for the VVt, it's a bit early to really tell, but I don't know that I'd sink money into a cavalier...they handle like a shopping cart with a busted wheel, the cavalier platform overall is just really sloppy. But if you're just looking to go fast in a straight line then building an engine in your cav is definitally gonna be the cheapest option. If it's just the wing on the SS bothering you, I'm sure you could work something out with a dealer to get a normal wing put on that thing.
NM06ss 11-21-2005, 11:15 AM The ss non-s/c doesn't have the huge wing, it has the medium sized one. I was told that with dished pistons, the compression ratio can get low enough that one can safely run boost.
h8beingbored 11-21-2005, 12:50 PM It's not very hard to take the wing off... and it can be ordered without one
CJ Thunder 11-21-2005, 01:20 PM No forced induction with VVT?

As stated earlier, you'd have to bring the compression ratio down a bit to safely boost the engine, otherwise you'd be running serious risk of detonating your engine
sloNlow 11-21-2005, 03:22 PM Hmm I think I need to find a new dealer, local dealer told me the SS/SC ONLY came with the big wing. My problem is the wing is noisy at 70-80mph, and just attracts too much attention for my liking :D
The compression on the 2.4 has me worried that aftermarket will be limited until internal mods are available(rods, pistons etc...).
I agree with you on the cavalier, and there is nothing really aftermarket wise to improve the handling of the car either. Always has been a complaint of mine really
NM06ss 11-22-2005, 08:18 AM The suspension aftermarket isn't really that empty. Eibach makes coilovers for the cobalt, I've seen sway bars, and I've also seen several strut bars.
ssdragon 11-22-2005, 09:04 AM the compression isnt super high on the 2.4, when i had my celica gt-s its compression was high like 11 something and it could still boost 7 psi safely so i would go to say that the block can handle the 7 psi safely until internals are available but the real problem here seems to be the transmission the auto is very weak in stock form i would push more than 200 whp on the tranny until its been built...
NM06ss 11-22-2005, 01:34 PM The CR on the 2.4 is 10.6 to 1 so it would really be a better idea to lower it before boosting. Even if one could safely use as much as 6psi on the stock block, that $3500 mod would only net you about 40-60 hp. For this mild of an upgrade one could use nitrous for about $600.

I was referring to the J-body not the Cobalt.
sloNlow 11-22-2005, 08:43 PM 10.6:1 is just to high for me to even really think of a quality turbo setup
I may settle for the 2.0 if I can get the wing deleted on one or something.
Thanks for all the input everyone
the 4t45E does not bother me, about 800-1200$ it can be made alot stronger
ssdragon 11-23-2005, 12:36 PM well imo 60 hp would be alot of power to play with until you get the trans and engine built to handle more and imo nitrous sucks its too sparatic and too hard to tune around so id stay away from it a nice constant boos that never need refilled is much better and the price is good compared to alot of other kits out there for certain quality setups
avro206 11-26-2005, 09:39 PM 10.4 to 1 cr--go check and you'll see.
