: My Cobalt SS Plans.....

Well.... since I'm anxiously waiting until my birthday to pick up my Cobalt SS (end of June) I've decided to go ahead and figure out what order I'm going to do things.

First off, I'm ordering the Sunburst Orange Metallic, as I'm expecting it to be the least ordered color. I'm getting the Performance Package of Recaros and LSD. Base stereo system (I can build a better one than the best option, for less money). Moonroof, and full airbags.

I'm also ordering my car w/ no rear wing. However, if it doesn't reduce the price by not having a wing, I'll tell them to let me have it, just don't put it on my car. Then, I'll sell it.

First mod I have planned is tinted windows. 30% in the door windows, 20% the rest of the way around. Then, I'm taking off all of the emblems and painting or powdercoating them flat black, probably making the grille black as well. Then I'll black out the rear lights (w/ covers).

Next, springs. I'll probably go with the Eibach Pro Spring Kit, just personal preference.

After that, the RK Sport rear wing, followed by the full RK Sport ground effects kit. (I love that the full kit is less than one grand)

Then I hope to find some nice dark wheels somewhere... probably gunmetal or black 18's or 19's w/ low pros. Depending how the car looks lowered, I may opt for 17's instead.

I am also working on a custom paint job... I have a few ideas, however I want to see the car w/ the kit in person (after I buy the wheels) to finalize my paint plans.

Of course, I'll probably be piecing together a stereo system at the same time... starting w/ a Kenwood MP3 Head unit and most likely Infinity Kappa or Polk speakers w/ a RF Sub/Amp. A 10" will fit my needs just fine.

What are your plans for yours?

i don't think i can get financed for one :(
lol
but your plans sound good! I haven't seen an SS without the wing so I'm not sure how it would look...but props to your plans!!

Do you have a pic of that body kit your planning on getting?

sorry for being lazy, but I posted a thread entitled "Body Kits (With Pictures)" in another thread... .let me find it. Here you go. click here (http://www.cobaltss.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145)

Also, I'm not keeping the car without wing for long.... I just see no need to drill holes for the factory one when I'm going to rip it off anyway. Personally I think it looks tacky, doesn't fit the body lines at all.

Thanks!

My plans for the Cobalt aren't really to make it a drag/super-fast car, but to make it more of a good-looking cruiser with enough balls to get out of its own way, and embarass a few people who ask for it.

I'm going to wait on that twin-charger system from psi-fi though.

I want the Cobalt to look good, sound good (audio) and be fairly quick. High 12's-low 13's in the quarter is enough for me. Basically I want something nice to take the girlfriend out in, while I work on making my Daytona and Shelby Lancer into 11 second streetable drag cars ;)

kool, good ideas you got there...

you looking for high 12s/ low 13s on slicks or street tires?.. in fwd, im sure that make a bigger difference

Mid 13's on street tires. I know that high 12's isn't really realistic on street tires.

Heck traction is my biggest enemy now in my Daytona. Honestly, I'm almost positive i'd run low 13's already (not low 14's as I currently am) if I could only get traction.

Hey man, Im not sure what size speakers will come in the Cobalt but I have some Infinity 4x6s, 5 1/4, and a 4Channel amp.

I will sell all or some of it to you when you find out what sizes you'll need. I ordered them from Infinity accomodations when I worked at Circuit City, well they closed my location before I got the speakers and I ended up with the 5 1/4s instead of the 6 1/2s I needed for my S-10. Here's what I got, I'll post links:

Kappa 4x6's MSRP $169.95 - for sale- $75 NO JOKE!!! (http://www.infinitysystems.com/caraudio/product.aspx?ProdId='KAPPA462.5CFP'&Ser=KAP&Cat=MEL)

Kappa PERFECT 5 1/4's - MSRP $529.95 - for sale $225 (http://www.infinitysystems.com/caraudio/product.aspx?ProdId='KAPPA+PERFECT5.1'&Ser=KPE&Cat=COS) These come with crossovers and tweets.

520 watt 4 Channel - MSRP $374.95 - for sale $200 (http://www.infinitysystems.com/caraudio/product.aspx?ProdId='REF7540A'&Ser=REF&Cat=AMP)

Anyways, I can't get back onto the Infinity accomodations website to swap for the 6 1/2s that I need so now that I'm at Best Buy I'm just gonna go with the Alpine Type S 4x6s (might try to squeeze in the Type X 4" in the dash - BIGGER magnet) and Type X 6 1/2s since I already have an Alpine headunit and subs.

Oh yeah, and none of this stuff has ever been used. All still in the box.
I'll seeif I can get some pics up IF your interested. And I will send you my personal info via PM or email so you can get ahold of me as well (if you are -or anybody else is- interested)

Engine in the Daytona is a 2.5L turbo 4-cyl. 8-valve head (biggest downfall). Stock, 152hp/210ft. lbs.

For info check out www.thedodgegarage.com (http://www.thedodgegarage.com) and click "The Daytona" or www.turbododge.com

I got it.

Not going to be able to do much right now though, just getting ready to start a new job at the beginning of the week, still working on getting some $ for a larger turbo/16V head for my Shelby Lancer, etc.

However, when the time is right I'll keep you in mind.

Cool, I'm not in a HUGE hurry to get rid of it anyways. I just cant use em, so the option will be there if you (or anybody else) change your mind.

Why pay the extra money for the SS to basically rip off half of the main accessories in the SS package? Wouldn't it be more logical to just buy a coupe and do the above on?

Uh...

yeah, i'll just buy the engine separate.

Read up before you post :p

Congratulations, you've proved yourself as being a smart ass. I read every post even where you said you going for mostly show but would like to have the power. So you could drop all you money in on looks then later on install a turbo or s/c.

Actually I'd rather stay w/ the 2.0 that is already set-up for a supercharger than to have to do it all bit by bit.

As for being a smartass, I am but always in a joking manner. However I didn't mean for my post to come out as snotty as it did..... I'm sure you can understand how it is easy to misconstrue tone/emotion in an internet post, hence the reason I used the :p smiley

You have my apologies. (seriously)

Thats why a LOT of arguments start!!! And some people are just too stubborn to realize that. Props to uwilluz for staying calm and being mature and explaining what he really meant instead of jumping right back at him with a rude comment. I'm sure Chad will understand. You sir have my respect.

well i cant get my Cobalt till early november b/c the car dealership told me i dont have substantial credit to get a brand new car.. so they are helping me build my credit by selling me a 99 cavy P.O.S and after the year is up (november) they will be able to help me get a 05' possibly 06' cobalt SS pending on when they come out with the 06' but ill be just happy with the 05' but anywaone for my plans.. i got its lined up already also! first rims and wheels A MUST sure it comes with 18's stock but they aint good enough to my standards.. second sound and lighting i got 2 audio bahns 12'' with the flame casing they hit hard enough for me dont need to enter a DB contest or anything but i got a kenwood head unit already mp3 and all that good stuff and lighting will match the paint of course witch will be yellow with black racing stripe down the passenger side then yellow neons under hood underbody and interior and trunk the speakers will be enclosed with a fiber/plexi glass enclose ment.. plexi for the clearness i will be fabricating my self putting mirrors and neons behind the speakers to show off the flame casing then third will be exaust i want to split the exaust after the cat. and run the dual pipe out (i think it looks much better) Fourth thing will be cruising around Lansing/detroit area witch ever i decide since they are fairly close only about 1 hour one way and 2 the other but its ok.. i love to travel.. but yea cruise around and let the ladies stare at the car :) and maybe catch a race or 2 after i get past my 500 miles to break the engine in :)dont wanna ruin it.. and for the final or semi final mod i will have graphics and tinting done by me.. ive gotten pretty good at it after spending $400 last summer messing my old cars windows up :( my uncle has a decal machine he lets me use.. i draw sketches.. then he scans them to his computer and prints them out on the decal paper of any color i need:) witch is nice so i dont have to spend like $150 on a whole tribal set or flame set ( i choose decals for the simple fact that if i dont like it after a few months.. i dont have to pay for another paint job.. i can just rip off the decal and do something else )

Yeah, building credit can suck sometimes. I'll probably STILL have to get my dad to cosign for me.

uwilluz
03-30-2005, 11:12 AM
I'm gonna need a co-signer. For the car, and for my apt. lease.

I'll be the first to admit that I have shitty credit.

For those of you young guys in here, I have some words of advice.

To build credit, you pretty much need a credit card. I would get a small one for a dept. store where you buy your clothes.

Or, get a Visa to use for emergencies or the like. However, don't use it unless you have the money already, in a savings account or in your wallet.

When you get that monthly bill, pay it in full.

Trust me, my credit too a HUGE nosedive when I started going to college. If you have credit cards when you start going to college, cut them up... haha seriously.

CoBIZZLE

Well I dont have bad credit... I just have never really set up a credit line for anything. I have a few dept. store credit cards... well 2. But I never use them.
