: SS VS. GST (mitsubishi 2.0 Turbo)
EndZz 12-12-2005, 03:40 AM Ok so me and my friend see a mitsu, and want to check to see if it was a GSX it wasn't but it was a GST, same motor, same turbo just FWD instead of AWD. I try to get some attention and he takes off on me, obviously I have no time to catch up so when I finally do we have an open stretch so I honk and we went on 3 from 80 he pulled on me and I fell back to his front tire when I started to rake him in by 100 I was in front 1\2 a car length by 140 he was about 3 cars back so he was REALLY excited and wanted to go again so we slowed down to about 60 this time I stayed with him and by 130 I was at least 31/2-4 cars on him the 3rd race was from 65 and again 3-4 cars he looked stock but he had a side guague pod so he might have spent more money on it you could hear his turbo pretty good too all in all we raced 3 times I beat him every time after the second race he gave me a tumbs up as I did he looked pretty happy another fun night!!! and yes I know 140 alittle fast but there were no cars and it was a 4 lane oh yeah I felt my supercharger and intercooler and the SC was cool to the touch but the intercooler was COLD like ICE water that was cool intake was pretty cold as well.
Blk06CobaltSS 12-12-2005, 04:14 PM Nice Nice Nice
looks like you ran across a dsm with a boost controller and exhaust. they'll run mid to low 14's with those mods. with a fmic and some race gas on good tires, they'll get mid 13's.
good kill. becareful at those speeds, especially when you have a passenger.
EndZz 12-12-2005, 06:24 PM really u think he had a boost I knew he had exhaust but yeah it was a good race u think they could do mid 13's? man thats coozzz
CobaltGuy 12-12-2005, 10:52 PM Where do you live?
i work for a dsm shop called FIST (see my sig). this is why i think they can run 13's with bolt ons.. if it was a gs-t, then it did have a turbo. if it was a 1g, then it can hit 13's on race gas, bolt ons, and tires since it has a stock 14b turbo. if it was a 2g (95-99) then they are a tad bit slower because of the added weight and the T25 turbo. those are good for mid to low 14's with the same mods.
bone stock, they'll run low 15's or high 14's.

I know it wasn't a GSX it had no rear diff. real quick question DV8 is there much of a difference between the first and second gen motors (besides crack lock) i.e if a 2nd gen had a 1st gen motor would it still run the same thing or would the 1st gen do the car more good than a 2nd gen motor? Thanks! Man I wish I had a turbo in my Cobalt lol.

Wasup! -from another socaler :D
Crank Walk occurs in 2gen's, read more here (http://www.autotunerforums.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=82)
Also, one of our member's had a 1g motor in his 2g shell who can relate to your 2nd question
EVIL WS6 12-14-2005, 11:34 AM Good kill!
A buddy of mine has a '97 GSX that runs 11.77 on race gas and 23psi. I'm not sure wht his mods are, but he puts down just over 400hp@the wheels on 23psi.
the 1g motors are known as 6bolt motors while the ones in the 2g (and 1992.5 year 1gs and later) are known as 7bolts. the 6bolt motor in general is stronger than 7bolt because it has stronger and larger rods, has less compression to run more boost, has larger runners in the intake manifold, has a larger throttle body, and has a much better flowing head. the turbo on the 1g (stock) is also larger. in general, the 1g's also weigh in at 200 lbs less than a 2g (GSX's), which will make the 2g slower than a 1g with the same mods.
alot of the 2g's looking for big power will do a 6bolt swap and use DSM-Link tuning software to assist with the management. if you go to dsmtuners.com, you can see that there is one member in there with a 1g who ran a 12.55 with bolt-ons, weight reduction, race gas, and a hell of a tune all on a 125K mile motor and turbo.
your quick question = my short novel :D

Ohio seems to be the Mecca for fast DSM's. Houston has a dismal (but improving) DSM scene mostly because alot of the shops around here don't work on DSM's often or the ones that speciallize in them would prefer to rip their customers off.
a couple of friends of mine started a new DSM shop to help get some faster DSM's on our streets. hopefully we'll see some faster DSM's here in htown.
EndZz 12-18-2005, 03:44 AM Oh man thanks for the answers makes more sense to me now. I see a few GSX's around here every now and then but not enough only 3 in the last 3 months and 2 GST's those cars are promising for some who wants good power and looks to go along with em. I see the real quick ones have 2.4 or 2.2 stroker kits on them.

i thought they put the 7 bolt in the 1g starting in 92-93???? i have a 91 gsx watch out for them they are quick. i really cannot wait for the aftermarket to come on strong for the cobalt and RL. like watching a baby grow.
