: Civic Si VS Cobalt SS

I couldn't stomach it, so I was hoping some of you guys could go over there and school them on the Cobalt.
This is the forum for the Civic EP (the last generation hatch back with a 2.0 and 160 hp). I usually keep these guys in check but I really don't know much the Cobalt.
Make it a learning experience for everyone. ;)
clevelander2002 01-22-2006, 11:56 AM I tried to fill them in a little ;)
N/ADC5 01-22-2006, 03:27 PM Good luck!
They would likely be a good race for the ls model, likely beat it, but the ss?
Come on...!!!!
EVIL WS6 02-02-2006, 04:13 PM I'm not wasting my time registering on that site. I hate Honduhs. Of course this coming from someone who builds Cobalts for a living, i guess you'll have that. The only Cobalt they could take would be a base LT/LS or maybe a bone stock n/a SS sedan. The n/a SS coupes would run right with them, if not beat them (stock to stock) and the supercharged CSS would completly annilate them. Those Civic Si's ran high 15's.
05YELLOWSS 02-02-2006, 05:14 PM civic si vs ss??? wtf mate, not a chance...
chevycobaltowner 02-02-2006, 08:21 PM My friend has on 05 civic si and he raced a cobalt ss s/c and got totally raped. His car runs 15.5 with tires intake and exhaust. Those cars are turds.
CoBIZZLE 02-02-2006, 10:59 PM I drove someones new 06 Si (the one with the 200hp motor and a six speed) the other day at work and took it out back, those'll bang 60 in second, and they'll get there pretty quick too... but the hatch ones are dogs... Ive seen em on an 1/8 around here runnin mid to high 10s.... my friends OZ lancer will do that...... just my $0.02.... CSS S/C wins hands down....
connermt 02-03-2006, 07:14 AM From what I read, the new Si might be able to hang decently with a SS/SC at least to 60 - maybe ¼ (if they are launched well). I would think that in a few months there would be TONS of upgrades for the Si that would make if more formidable to the SS/SCs. Rather you like HONDAs or not, you have to admit that the aftermarket for them is enormous. And once the 06 starts selling well (which they already have) it will be no time before upgrades start coming out (I am sure some minor upgrades were out before the cars were).

The new Si runs 15.1, still slow. The upgrades that are out for them now are the usual universal ricer crap. Fartcan, neons, graphics, aluminum wings, aem cai, etc,. Yeah you'll have that when Honduh pops out 8 million of those things a year. The aftermarket is already catching on to the CSS S/C's and before the end of next year they will be one of the most popular tuner cars in the country. So have faith, the aftermarket is taking notice that these blown ecotecs are for real and before long Civics will be the past "import of choice". You know GM has done something right when you have die hard import/anti GM freaks come up to you and start telling you how awesome these motors are and how you should by the GM "cookbook for over 1000hp".
usdsk8errob 02-04-2006, 11:21 AM it shouldn't be able to touch you. But i guess anything can happen
XeroState 02-04-2006, 11:26 AM Ya, I had a run in with a 2000 (I think, it was 7 months ago okay) SiR (you can buy them in Canada) and by the time I hooked in 2nd gear he was literally 4 cars back already...wasn't even close.
The new Si's will give you run....if you mess up. If you hit your shifts and launch OK (no need to be perfect) you should still beat them stock for stock.
Nukem 02-04-2006, 11:50 AM I think its going to be a weaker RSX-S. not meaning to steal the thread, but has anyone seen the new Scion Tc Supercharged??? I raced one and beat it by 3 car lengths girl driving it she just got the car a few days b4 we raced
CoBIZZLE 02-05-2006, 01:01 PM ???
I missed that one on the website?!?! Scion tC (http://www.scion.com/showroom/tc/gallery/index.html)
I do know there is a TRD S/C kit out for them but I haven't heard about them from the factory??
05YELLOWSS 02-05-2006, 01:58 PM It's not from the factory, my buddy just got one, you order the car and the day it comes in the dealer installs the s/c kit, for 3000.00 extra...still lacks torque though, think it brings the totals to 200hp and 170tq... much faster than a stock one though, that's for sure, his last one ran 15.5 (auto), he totalled it and his new one hasn't been to the track yet, we made a couple runs but it was still behind, not sure if it is heavier or not....

My how time flies, eh? I really miss your Honda Usenet newsgroup trolling some years back. And no sarcasm intended, you were funny as hell! You and Crush's Civic bashing made the place fun to hang out on! :D

'99 Civic Si
Nukem 02-09-2006, 05:20 AM the Tc SC isn't anything to get worked up about, I raced one and twice and destroyed her.
TheBossDogg 02-14-2006, 06:19 AM yeah TC's arent that special, i raced one in my everyday driver (2005 Hyundai Sonata w/ new intake) idk if he had the S/C or not, he said that he did. It didnt seem that fast at all. so there would be no doubt in my mind that my SS would rape it, or any ones at that.
joedashow 02-14-2006, 08:45 AM I wouldn't sweat the new Si at all. It's all empty HP with little torque to back it up (197 HP, 139 lb.-ft. is NOT an impressive ratio at all).
BlackSSNebraska 02-14-2006, 06:40 PM I had a silver scion tc before i got the cobalt SS/SC..i had springs, wheels, exhaust, cai, short shifter, window tint, wing, ground effects kit, different shifter, pedals, mid pipe, s-pipse, blue bulbs, and other little things but i totaled it after christmas the day i got my new springs put on. I thought the car was great and looked very good with all that id done to it.
BlackSSNebraska 02-14-2006, 06:40 PM the performance isnt anything in the tc compared to the SS/SC but i also liked the sound of the tc a lot more than the cobalt and the steering felt a little better it was more tight than the ss

Do you have a CAI yet on the ss. The sound of the supercharger is awesome once you let it breathe.
BlackSSNebraska 02-15-2006, 02:47 PM No, i dont have anything on the cobalt yet. I just got it a couple weeks ago but i was planning on exhaust and headers.
orange juice 02-15-2006, 03:14 PM I've said it a zillion times. i'm going to sit back and watch the Si deminish this year. i don't see how their DBW system is going to be able to keep up with the demand people will be giving the motor once they start adding mods to them. Especially boosted aplication. I sure hope they have a way around it ;)
1stBluSS 02-15-2006, 03:52 PM nice looking car 2 lbs of tq not for me.......
ItalianJoe1 02-15-2006, 04:45 PM I'm gonna go drive a new Si soon, a friend just started as a salesman at a Honda dealer near me. Hopefully i bring it back in one piece.
Badmunky 02-16-2006, 10:05 AM ^If you dont no one will miss it...lol

You know, I just thought about that... is the SS S/C a drive by wire setup?? I hope not, I may opt out of gettin one and keep lookin for a Camaro SS...

What kind of camaro SS are you looking for i keep seeing them all over for sale.

The SS/SC is drive by wire. I also dont really care for it but I bought a RL with it anyway.
Badmunky 02-17-2006, 09:09 PM The DBW system in the SS is 10X beter then the one in the Civic.
CoBIZZLE 02-18-2006, 12:15 AM What kind of camaro SS are you looking for i keep seeing them all over for sale.
HAS to be BLACK with T-tops, charcoal leather, T-56, SLP package, preferably 01 or 02... Im picky... :o
Kendogg531 02-18-2006, 07:38 AM forget about honda ,, there garbage ,, i think the cobalt would take the win
WalkerSS 02-18-2006, 09:26 AM I found a new Civic SI and walked away from him and I am still stock. Honda's are shit.
Spoony 02-18-2006, 01:52 PM Cars are not *garbage* or *shit* because they're .5 secs slower (or whatever the exact number is) in the 1/4mile...some of you people need a serious reality check. There are alot of cars out there that you can beat in a straight race, or any race...that doesn't make them shit.
Honda's have never really been great cars to buy if you want to drag race...probably never will...Roadandtrack put the SI through the 700-ft slalom faster then the SS, and it scored better on the skidpad, neither of the victories were blowouts...but neither is a fraction of a second in the 1/4mile, you can lose more then a fraction of a second with a crap launch. If I had to bet money on which car was built better my money would go on the SI (though I don't particularly like the looks of the new civic lineup).
edit: sorry for the rant..but as "car enthusiasts" you really should be able to appreciate more about a car then it's 1/4 mile time.
please dont flame him guys just try to understand where he is coming from
and dont judge unless you have actually driven what you are judging
:)
The Alex 02-18-2006, 02:26 PM I think they are somewhat sharp looking but i think the windshield is Rediculous, it looks huge when your driving by it.

I build Cobalts for a living. I've driven them. I'll tell you what, we bust our ass and put all we got into building these cars. The quality control is insane at work. If we don't get it right the first time, we finish building it, and we pull it off of the line at the end and don't let it out the doors until it's fixed and it's perfect. Anything that happens after it leaves us is beyond our control. We use the best equipment in the industry and we pride ourselves on what we do. "Hondas are better built" is a myth that was true 20 years ago. I don't care if Civics run 10's stock pull 2.0 g's on the skidpad and get 450mpg. I'll stick with my American car. And yes, i know Civics are built here too, unfortunetaly they're designed in Japan and the money that is being made goes to japans economy not ours. No thanks. Motor Trend can stick thier COTY B.S up thier ass.

Ok...then why can't GM get a simple thing like the leather on the armrest portion of the door...cut correctly (every cobalt I've been in with leather has this problem)? I didn't say the people who build cobalts do a shitty job, I didn't even say cobalts had shitty build quality, what I did say is I'd bet the honda's build quality was better, the idea that one thing is better then another does not mean the other sucks. This isn't a slight on the people who build the cars, it's a slight on *how the cars are built*, which isn't something you have any control over. Of course the quality control is insane, because if you fuck up and it causes shit to break, GM has to fix it...again not a build quality issue, but a quality assurance issue (it still rattles, it just doesn't break and cause warranty issues). In no way am I saying you or your counterparts do a bad job.
20 years ago? please. Take a late 90's civic and a mid 90's cavalier/sunfire and see which one is suffering from internal rattling, not to mention all the problems with strut mounts going bad...drive train rattles...etc etc, I'm sure someone's gonna come on here and say every cavalier they've been in was perfect and didn't have any problems. I can only speak from personal experience, that being, the one I owned was a dog with fleas, and all my friends constantly have problems with theirs, not problems that cause them to stop working, just little things that over time annoy the piss out of you. My family's always owned domestic cars, and I started out with domestics, so it's not like I'm some hardcore import fanboy. I just call it like I see it.
I don't care if Civics run 10's stock pull 2.0 g's on the skidpad and get 450mpg. I'll stick with my American car
Basically what you're saying is you don't care if Honda builds a great car, even if it is better then an american car, you'll stick with an american car just because it's american...which is typical american thinking...or..lack thereof. Companies shouldn't be rewarded for inferior products, they should be forced to come out with something that doesn't suck.
