Hey guys, I am looking into getting a 2.4L Ecotec. I am assuming I would have to go through my dealership (bah humbug!). Unless anyone knows another place that I can get that particular engine from? What is the engine code for this engine? Possible problems for swapping the engine? Any help in this situation would be greatly appreciated.

better off finding a wrecked one. you're gonna pay probably $2k+ for that engine from a dealer, then you need the ecu too. until there's a stockpile of wrecked ss' around you don't want to mess with it

if you're just looking for power, turbo yours. it'll be alot less work, and in the future if you still want to swap, you can use most of the turbo parts on the 2.4L

I second that. Just slap a turbo on what you already have. You will be happier spending the money and time on doing a turbo setup vs. a 2.4L engine swap. Swapping in an engine only .4L larger will not give you a great power increase like forced induction will.

just go turbo less money more power

Correct me if im wrong but I thought a base Cobalt was a 2.2L. I agree with them though .2L or .4L is not worth an engine swap. I would just go turbo.

Throw a turbo on it and be happy. How much boost can the stock 2.2 take anyways?

Yea you're right, that's what I meant but I had 2.0L on my mind. Sorry.

I hear you guys on this, but how much of the turbo kit from a 2.2L be useful on a 2.4L? Plus, 171HP is a much better starting point than 145HP! Also, it would be 4400 complete swap at my dealership. Brand new engine use existing tranny. That includes the ECU and other things. Not as bad as I thought, considering when I had my civic it would cost me close $5gs+ to swap a B18c motor. A little off subject, how many gears are in an SS's tranny? I saw one guy advertising 6 gears! Is this true?

you could go 2.0L S/C.....http://www.crateenginedepot.com/store/Ecotec-Crate-Engine-20L-Supercharged-12499466-P826C57.aspx

i think on the 2.4 7 psi would be max on stock everything and on a 2.2 i think it could take 9 psi on stock everything

I just don't see how 26 hp is worth $4400. For $4400 you could make on hell of a 2.2L for that much. Plus I've read that the 2.4 won't be as good for boosting because the cylindar walls are thinner or something like that

the compression ratio on the 2.4 is pretty high already. why are you spending $4400 on 26 hp??? just get a 2.0 s/c motor, then pulley it for 60 bucks. now thats an upgrade :).

Yeah, I understand. I could save up for the turbo kit or the GMPP supercharger. I am not thrilled with the 2.0L constantly throwing CELs (thats just an observation from these forums) from something as silly as an intake or exhaust. Not that every 2.0L is doing that, it just seems a lot are. So, I am probably going to stick with a turbo kit (I love BOV!!). Thanks for the help.
