View Full Version : SS Bolt Pattern / Rims
Does anyone know for a fact what the bold pattern is for the SS. If it is on the forum please direct me. I have found some info here but the problem is someone said that the bolt pattern was 5 X 110 (very odd) but the RHE C5's that were on the Preproduction SS are 4 X 100. 5 X 110 will make it very hard to find rims that I would actually like. Im asking because Im drawing up a list of rims I might want to buy. Anyone know for sure?
And what kinda rims is everyone thinking about getting??

5x110 w/42mm backspacing for sure. And don't expect to get too much wider than a 7" rim either. You can ask current owners to check, but there isn't much more room to use.
thank guys, spacing was going to be my next question. 5 X 110 Chevy WTF!

I thought the RL's came w/ 17"x8" rims, I wanna get at least an 8"! Hell I'll drop size if I have to (if that'll help). Im a big fan of fatass tires!

You might be able to fit 18x8's with the right spacing, but I didn't find much more room back there when I was looking at it.
"5 X 110 Chevy WTF!"
If you look at GM's current line up you will find that the midsize use 5x110. Also the 5spd is a saab, and I believe the 2.0 block might be the saab turbo block as well. Think about it, GM might have just taken the entire powertrain and suspension from their Epsilon cars and grafted it to the Delta platform. Great way to performance and cost.

They probably did, you wouldn't happen to know if the Saab had this same bolt pattern would you? Also is the suspension the same cuz I've heard SEVERAL people say that they think the 9-3 is THE BEST handlin FWD car ever from the factory.
And I hope I can get 18x8's cause I not only like the look of the wide tires but also it gives a bigger contact patch. I'll try to find a way, cut fenderwells, save weight, better performance, j/k wouldn't do that on a brand new car.

Just checked tirerack.com. The Saab rund 5x110w/42mm offset just like the G6 and most likely the malibou. Same exact pattern and offset as teh SS. So atleast the hubs, block, and tranny were stolen from the saab.

Wow but Saab is not that bad they have some good tech but GM has helped Saab so much. Without GM Saab would be crap.

Somebody also told me (DONT QUOTE ME ON THIS!) that GM owns a small share of Subaru. I was told they are helpin them with some things and Subaru is helpin them with AWD technology! I guess it sounds mre like a contract to me.

It is true that is why Saab has a WRX look alike. I have read this i a book once.

Yeah they used the WRX platform and engine i think. But it is not as fast as a WRX but it is more refined.

the sedan has 4 X100. I doubt they would be different, but I m not sure. Any wheel place can look and tell you for sure. Most of the aftermarket wheels are what they call universal. (which means they have several locations for the studs. You can t even tell, they look good.

SS is definately 5 lug. It may be the only Cobalt model with a 5 lug, but it is.

Yeah i think they had to because of the power output of the SS.
Are you sure the SS's bolt pattern isn't 5x100? My sunfire has 5x100 and I was just figuring because 5x110 seems a lil odd.....
And yea Saab's 92x is the Saab version of the Impreza Wagon (Linear model) and the Impreza WRX Wagon (Arc or Aero model)....If you didnt know LOL.....

As far as we know that is the size.
O and yeah i just did not do all of the models it was just weird that they did that but the thing is the 92x has beter seats and over all comfort in side. But not as much perfomance. And i think GM owns someting like 49% of Subaru. I am not very positive on the percent.

The 5x110mm comes from the Epsilon models. That is why the pattern changed from the 4x100 on the regular cobalts. I do not believe GM has any 5x100's anyway

Heard what??? LOL
I know a guy that put rims sized for a Dodge Dakota on a FWD! the adapters made it stick out so far! It was nuts! Of course he also had homemade graphics and aluminum foil for chrome pinstripe... on every crevice of the car!!!

you might want to checkout www.wheelmax.com .. I bought wheels from them for my mazda6 and they treated me pretty good.. they are not the best in quality.... but not very expensive either.. so you get what you pay for.. but they were good enough for me..

ok, for those of you looking for taller rims, what about those of us that might be looking for a smaller rim? Anyone done it? I'm looking for a 15" rim for a better selection of tires for drag racing. On the LS1's we have to grind the calipers down to get a 15" rim to fit. So anything out there for the Cobalt in that size? 15x7? fit a 235/50/15 drag radial on there?

While I havnt done it (or even measured it) myself, I was told you can have the Cobalt/Redline hubs drilled out "offset"(using the existing stud holes but offset to move the stud centers 0.17" outward) at a machine shop to accept a standard 0.625" stud knurl and then use regular 1/2 "x 20 tpi studs to bring them out to a more standard 5x4.5" spacing. (might even work with a 7/16" stud?)
Anyone here done it??
