: What do you think of the looks of the SS/SC without a wing or spoiler?
ssnipes 03-07-2006, 01:20 AM I have been wanting to get rid of my wing (selling) and get a spoiler. Some people wanted pictures of my car without the wing. People assumed I had already removed it. This made me curious of what people might think of the cobalt wingless. So I crudely photoshoped some pics to remove the wing from the SS/SC.
What do you think of the looks of the SS/SC without a wing or spoiler? See poll
CobaltSSilver 03-07-2006, 02:22 AM Yeah my Wife hates the spoiler period. I love the SS Spoiler on mine from the outside but it's actually starting to get to me a little from the inside. Is there anything out there aftermarket that is a direct replacement spoiler that is not a highback?
potatoe 03-07-2006, 05:35 AM I have mine off

Are you able to get some real pictures of it on here?

RK Sport and another make found under exterior tab on COBALTADDICTION

I have been leaning towards the RKsport spoiler
ssnipes 03-07-2006, 08:21 AM well definitely some people have an opinion on this and so far it is a 50/50 split. not quite what I expected.
Depending on other photos from others I may take the wing off after all to see what it is like.
ssnipes 03-07-2006, 08:23 AM I think it may look even better if the car was lowered.
detroit_tuner 03-07-2006, 09:28 AM It looks alright. I guess it depends on if your overy thirty or not.

Actually lowering it just may be what sets it off without the Spoiler....I say GO FOR IT! Unless lowering it is not in the plans. :)

Ya know I'm 27 and about 2-3 years ago I was all about the high back spoiler and now I don't think I'm in love with it as much. I still think it looks sweet from the outside, it's just that I have to work a little harder for vision out of the back so that gets old after a while.

I like the RK the best out of all on there. I wonder how much work to get the old one off and the RK on. Basically I don't want to end up with something that I have to try and make look pretty. An autobody man I am not! :D
That's a pretty sweet website thanks for the link!
Has anyone else out there done a swapout of the SS/SC spoiler to the RK spoiler? If so did you have any issues or gotchas to the install?
Harley 03-07-2006, 11:32 AM Take the big nasty off haha. There are definately some strong opinions on this. Here are pics of mine.

Great pictures. nice clean stereo install. Thanks for sharing. Sorry if this is an old topic.
Man I have to start digging up old threads there definitely some good ones here.
thanks again the looks great.
Harley 03-07-2006, 03:44 PM There is a topic on my stereo install too haha. Search the How To: Forum. Its my pleasure to spread wing disposal and thanks for the compliments.
Tubes, I agree completely I can now see if a cop is sneaking up on me even though he is less likely.
clevelander2002 03-07-2006, 04:32 PM I like the batwing, I know theres a few people with these on their RL's and it looks great.
Oh yea the batwing is the Razzi Downforce.
The Alex 03-07-2006, 05:33 PM I like it but then i dont if you drop the wing you must drop the car. If i were buying mine id prolly get rid of the wing then drop the car and put some diff wheels on the accented the car.
gretty_d 03-07-2006, 06:57 PM I want to lower and get diff wheels too. But as far as the stock spoiler, I have the lower one, I like it. The big one looks nice but I can see where it would be a pain. I also like the kits they have on cobalts addiction web site. RK is the one I like the best.
CobaltSScrazy 03-07-2006, 07:53 PM IMHO I LOVE the wing. People say it looks R.I.C.E. (race inspired cosmetic ...I forgot the last part...lol) but I think it looks really cool AND i own a 77 Trans Am and drive an 04 Malibu Maxx so its not like I don't know what I'm talkin about.. I'm 19 though, so again, it depends on your age.
potatoe 03-07-2006, 08:04 PM yes i dropped mine before i took off the spoiler muuuuch better. As for pics its in my barn all dusty right now sooo i cant see it.
It looks alright. I guess it depends on if your overy thirty or not. I'm over 30, and I could definately do without it. I wish Chevy gave an option for a smaller wing or even to go without all together. I do like the RK Sport and have been planning to go that route in the near future. IMO, the RK Sport flows with the lines much, MUCH better and Chevy would of been better off with something similar to it stock.
i'm 18 and i hate the wing. but imo the car looks weir dwithout any wing at all. the trunk looks so short for some reason, like there's almost no rearend of the car. but i definately hate the stock ss wing, and mine's red so cops flock to my car on the highway.
p.s. harley, did you loose the steering wheel controls with the aftermarket head unit? or is there a way to keep them?
Harley 03-07-2006, 10:50 PM I'm 21 if that makes any difference and completely dislike wings in general haha. I perosnally wouldn't sport a wing if I didn't have to, but with the Cobalt I felt it was also hiding some real nice lines that flow through they trunk. I like the short trunk look too. It has a cleaner line to me. And yeah it could definately use a drop, but I'm not going to spend any more money on it beyond some control arm bushings to eliminate the wheel hop. I just picked up a project truck a month ago that I've been looking for a long time.
Iso, I lost them, but there are remote modulators that can be purchased for about $30 from what I've heard. Basically they convert the steering controls to the remote signals of the aftermarket remote. Try asking at a Best Buy or a local audio shop. They should have something similar. I will probably pick one up come July when I start driving the car again.
awesome, thanks harley. i have a fairly nice head unit in my truck and since i barely drive it i want to put it in the ss. however i love the steering wheel controls. but the head unit i have has an aux in so i could directly plug in my ipod. which would sound so much better than the fm transmitter as it looses a lot of quality, especially in the base area.
Harley 03-07-2006, 11:58 PM Have you seen my how to?

There was talk about making it a sticky, but it never happened. Cobizzle you still around? Wanna sticky it, please? :)
I've been considering making some of the harness adaptors to retain the factory amp if enough people were interested. In theory, if you added subs to this setup, you could use your stock sub as a mid bass driver with the H/U setup properly. It would be a cheap easy way for a killer system. You interested? I think i could make em for about $25 shipped. This would include the rcas soldered and labeled. As well as instructions on what to connect to what.
SScobalt 03-08-2006, 08:09 AM only thing is w/out a spoiler it likes like a honda civic. i dont think any1 wants to look like a civic.....
Mercury 03-08-2006, 08:54 AM Bah I liked it for the first 6 months. Then I realized that everybody knew I had an SS so I got one that actually looked good.

i just read your how-to... god that looks like a lot of work. i really want to put my h/u from my truck in so i can hook up my rockford amp and my 2 12's without having to fiddle with an inline converter to go through the speaker wires. it just never sounds the same. how soon do you think you could make and ship that harness adaptor? i'm not great with audio so it's not something i believe i can do. any help would be greatly appreciated... it's one of the reasons i haven't tampered with the stock h/u in the first place.
CobaltSSilver 03-08-2006, 01:00 PM Harley:
How much work to weld and paint to remove the SS Spoiler?
Also anyone out there swap to the RK spoiler? If so did it slip in to the existing holes or am I stuck eitherway welding and painting?

i believe the rk spoiler will cover the two holes nearer to the rear but the two front holes will still need to be filled.

Thanks! I don't think I even want to mess with filling the holes myself to be honest. I will probably have to find a body shop to help so that I can keep my ride lookin' proper.
:D

Within 2 wks? I will start a thread and see if anyone else is interested, but I will at least make you one. What year is your car? And you have the Pioneer system correct? And what RCA outputs do you have on your aftermarket H/U (Front/Rear/Sub)? You would still need the dash adaptor plate to mount the H/U. I got mine for about $15 at a local shop.
Silver, I think I spent about 2-3 hours on it. This was one of my first times doing body work, so I didn't work very fast, but I did have the help of my friend who has more. We filled it purely with a mig welder. If I were to do it again I'd like to use a some filler plates so I wouldn't have had to weld so much. The trunk was warped somewhat, but the body shop I took it to finished the body work and it looks great. I think the body shop charged me about $300.

i have an 05 with the stock pioneer setup with the sub. i think there's only sub preouts on my h/u. there's two rca outs for subs and two ins for an aux input. that sounds about right.
this is the newer version of the h/u i have if it helps:

would it be easy to wire it up for another amp?
Harley 03-08-2006, 06:10 PM Alright made my thread for those that are interested.
