okay, so I bought a K&N kit and it's very nice. I haven't installed it yet, but was wondering who all has KN installed on their car, and what year is your car. any pics? the reason why I want this now instead of getting to it, is because the instructions with the kit said 05 supercharged cobalt and it didnt' say 06. I have an 06 I was wondering if it'd work for it.?

any cel's? warranty worries?

I've had a cel since the day after I installed mine, about 7 months ago. Car runs/drives fine though.

Edit: I should say that it has shut off a couple times, only for about a day though.

I've had the K&N CAI for several months, only one CEL, only for about 2 hours. Just be very careful when you align the MAF. Make sure it is perfectly straight. It took me maybe an hour, maybe less to do the entire install, and that was only because i cleaned everything while i was doing it. Very easy, its a great kit with everything you need for the intake. Clamps, hoses, little rubber edging to protect the tube, its great. And you warranty will be fine unless the intake itself causes the problem, like sucking water into the engine.

CEL = Check Engine Light

The LSJ hates intakes... most of them... I throw the same P0171, that anyone with an intake, and a scanner, is used to seeing by now. Some people are lucky, and sometimes I won't see it for months... but all of a sudden, when idling, BAM... there it is... clear it, and it will be gone for 5 mins, or 6 months...

Are the directions that K&N sends with the CAI a good tool also did u disconnect the battery while you were installing it.

i would assume the directions are a good tool for installation. if not i'm sure someone on here can help you out. and as for the disconnecting the battery, that's really more heresay than anything else. i don't believe just disconnecting the battery resets the pcm on newer cars, so it really wouldn't do anything.

I disconnected my battery and installed it. then reconnected it. I love the sound. I love the feel. I'm going to drive it right now.

But when you did that did you get a CEL or did it throw any codes ?

I didnt disconnect the battery, and i couldnt find the instructions until after i installed the intake. Very simple, if you have any mechanical knowledge at all. You can feel a huge difference in throttle response, the car jumps into boost faster and responds much smoother, not to mention the awesome whine from the blower. I think that as long as you are careful with the install, you wont see a CEL. Mine only came on once in several months, and only for a few hours.

So it is a pretty simple install I have been reading the directions and it seems somewhat strait forward.

Make sure you disconnect the battery! because it'll like reset it. Your car may seem kind of sluggish at first but maybe after the first 10 miles it should pull like before with a little bit more ooomph!!! I love my KN intake... Staying CEL free for a few weeks now!

never had any cels, also took my car to the dealer for a oil change and the only thing the service manager said was how much he liked the car and how good the intake looked so no warrenty worries at this point

hey srt4klr... me too, I got my oil changed even after exhaust and intake and nothing. the guy asked what all was done to it, I told him everything, he said, "Nice, have you raced anyone?" I said,"no way!" so no warranty troubles and I also love my KN CAI!!!

i just got my K&N CAI today and is installed after about an hour an half...hardest thing was to actually get the tire off with the panels and all....the old intake was simple to get out and the CAI slipped right on in no fitment problems at all...

to the problem of a CEL happening i havent experienced it yet the car started right on up and nothing went wrong besides the fact that i took it for a test drive down my buddys rode wanting to hear it WHINE and next thing you i look up and there are two cops haha luckily i didnt get pulled over

any questions feel free to ask

i didnt even have to take my tire off. i also took that plastic peice under where the filter stays and cut it off for more air flow. been like that for months and no problem
