That is a pretty good run (with no LSD?)

Silver Bullet RL: That is a totally good run. Was the track crowded & you were only able to get just the 1 run in?

I see the exhaust mods in your signature, but have you done any horsepower mods at all..... Pulley, computer tuning???

Just the Factory ECU Update that fixed hesitation when shifting... that's it. No LSD.

Really without LSD imagine with LSD.

Silver Bullet RL : Damn! So horsepower-wise it's pretty much completely stock. That is totally great. Between the Saturn Red Line Ion & the Chevy Cobalt SS it's totally about time that GM got with the "Tuner" / "Sport Compact" program.

With those numbers you can pretty much run with Hemi 300s, Hemi Magnums, and I'm going to have my hands full if I see either a Red Line Ion or a Cobalt SS.

Silver Bullet RL: What part of the city/state are you from?

Camaro 87: I wish my car had an LSD! And an agressive PCM!

Bucks County, PA (North of Philly).

I was able to get 2 runs in that night. My first run i missed 3rd gear and ended up running a 14.6. Still beat the POS civic next to me (16.2 lol)

LOL

Yeah I've seen somebody post their hp numbers went up by like almost 15 at the wheels just by cutting the stock airbox and addin a drop in filter, and installin a "universal muffler". He put like 217 at the wheels I believe. Imagine what an aftermarket intake, a throttle body, and a full header-back exhaust system could do!!! And thats before you even get into computer tuning and pulley swappin!!!! These cars will be very fast!!!

There are so many bulit in resrictions in the Cobalt SS and in the Redline that makes them very easy cars to modify.

* You guys are all making me very envious!

Better us (GM), than them (all other auto companies)

Modern's dyno vid showed that the SS hit 217 whp STOCK, thats not bad at all!

You'd still beat probably 90% of the imports out there!

That's where I think the genius from these cars are at...the srt/cobaltss
The company restricts the chit out of our cars and they are still putting down good numbers, then throw one or two minor mods in there and bam it feels and runs like a totally different car. It gives plenty of room for people to experiment around and do their own thing to improve performance. Just a lot of people would rather sit back, find out all the cheap mods to do and copy everyone elses...by then you have 500 modified yet exactly the same cars driving around.
I am hoping to see quite a few SS's and redline's around when I get back home...Just hope that if I run them and either I win or they win they are not super stupid childish jacka$$'s that just want to run their mouth afterwards. I enjoy a little race here and there and give props to those who deserve it, losing or winning.

good run.. i see some possible challenges in the future for the other domestic sport compacts. :)

Im just glad to see domestics finally runnin with the top of the sport compact scene. Now if somebody would just release a REALLY bad ass AWD car with over 300ponies to compete with the Japanese AWDers!!!

Nice, my buddies 98 Z28 can barely hit that 1/8 time (only due to traction probs) but would probably pull pretty hard on that 1/4, REAL GOOD RUN MAN! Especially for no LSD!

SilverBulletRL

BTW the HP/TQ numbers in my signature were done before the latest ECU update. Some Red Lines on Redlineforums.com got theirs dynoed after the ecu update and are pushing the same hp/tq as cobalts. That ECU update did wonders for us LSJs ;) I'm willing to bet with my mods, I'm probably between 218whp - 220whp / 195ftlbs / 200ftlbs...

CoBIZZLE

What is that update for the ECU??? I never heard of it before.

Is the update for all of the Redlines?

SilverBulletRL
05-02-2005, 03:57 PM
Yes, there was a TSB out for it. Cobalts already have the update.

But what did it actually do to the computer's settings?? Fuel, spark, timing, etc.???

Something with the o2 sensor and fuel suppositly...

Wow, that's a pretty good time for your car. The last time I recall, isn't your body weight the same as the SRT? Or somewhere close to it?

SilverBulletRL
05-04-2005, 08:35 PM
Few lbs heavier I believe...

Heavier and you were able to run a time close to our cars, with less hp and tq??? Not bad. Congrats to you.

not bad at all i was able to run a 13.6 on radials with 243hp and 258tq. all those number were with an intake and full exhaust only in my srt. nice to see these cars making some decent numbers.

damn good time. my first time at the track last month, and the best i could pull was a 14.2, and that was after a couple of practice runs. i have an 04 srt-4, cai, mbc, and motor mounts. traction is a real prob on the launch for me. plus bald ass street tires dont help either lol.

SilverBulletRL

yeah launching is a bitch. I just take off pretty much from idle....

as it was stated before, its real good to see other domestic products doing good in the compact scene. i ran my srt4 when it was completely stock and i ran a 14.18@99mph. i just cant wait to race a RL/SS. good time btw

Definately some great stock times here. I can't wait to see these cars in the 11's and 12's.

I'd enjoy seing some 12S cars as well, that'd be beautiful. I prefer keeping my cars stock, but I really do enjoy seeing people who are pushing their cars to the limit.

The one thing I would like to do is find a Fiero and put an LS2 in it. I think that would be quite enjoyable, although a luxury that I don't really need.
