Well I Have been considering the cobalt for some time now, ever since they introduced it, even back in the concepts i liked it..

So i went down to my local deal and i talked to a salesmen about the Cobalt SS. (man i hate sales people, at least this guy), i was told the wait is probrably 2-4 months for the SS "Which was bullshit" yes there is a wait but not that long..

He told me to settle for the LS and get as many options as i wanted, and futher more he told me i do not qualify for the GM employee discount (dad works for General Motors) again i found out i do qualify for a discount (Stupid people trying to make money by ripping me off)

I decided to goto another local deal and they had one on the lot, salesmen was alot nicer, he told me this one is available for sale right now, i told him i would have to order mine, becauuse the one on the lot did not have a sunroof and i want a red one, the one on the lot was black..

So in all good news i am goin to check out one more dealership and i am goin to order me self a Cobalt SS......

explain to me if i was looking for A SS model what the hell makes you think im gonna settle for one that is an LS...

Oh yeah my local dealer has an LS right now with a nice body kit on it (Factory) tomorrow when i go by i will take pics and post them, sure its an Automatic LS, but it is not a bad price and the kit looks decent...

Yeah dealers tend to try to make a sale as fast as they can so thet try to sell you anything they can. My girlfreind had that same thing the dealer were she baught her car they tried to sell her a year old car compared to a 05.
O BTW welcome to the site.

no, the car actually could take 2 - 4 months. I just ordered mine yesterday and I'll be happy if it arrives anytime in July. Take a look at this... http://www.arifleet.com/production.html

the dealer has one in the lot right now i can have, but it is not the colour i want and it does not have a sunroof

so i have to order it :(

but i am willing to wait for the one i want

yup, just be happy you ordered one and you know for sure your getting it. all you can do is just sit back and wait for the call :D

What do you want a sunroof for? they're overrated, expensive, heavy... etc. 2-4 months isn't unrealistic at all, depending on location and dealer the soonest they'll get it is 6-8 weeks.

As far as the salesman telling you you didn't qualify for gms... its more than likely you dont... gms applies to employees, not family members of employees unless there is a special promotion offering gms to family members. OR you/your family member is on good enough terms or knows someone who can get the right strings pulled for you. But when I got my cobalt at what was supposed to be GMS I found out my buddy who is a salesman at the dealership would have only made $70 on the deal... so I had some strings pulled and ended up not doing gms, but getting a better deal, and my buddy made more money off it.

If you're not pressed for time to get a car... and can wait for what could be more than 2-4 months go for the SS, otherwise an LS is still a very nice car.

JamesBrown
04-26-2005, 11:50 PM
No, GMS is for family of GM employees. My step grandfather works at a plant in Texas and I was still able to receive the discount without any problems. My family has bought a few cars with GMS without hastle.

What's up with the crazy backorders? Is Chevy just testing the waters to see how sales are gonna go? Or is it just because it's all so new?

Hey everyone I post a lot over at ************* decided to check things out here... Just wanted to let you know if your SS isnt ordered in the next few days chances are your going to have to wait until sept when the 06' models are ready...

I ordered mine yesterday and called GM before I went... they said I was cutting it close... especially if I wanted the G85 package... which you have to get... it doesnt make sense not to

i decided to get the one on the lot... my two color options where the blue and the black..

they had the black on the lot so i took it... (a friend of mine is so pissed cause he wanted it) i told him should have acted sooner...

It does not have the lsd or the recaro seats... apparently that is a 2006 offer..

now this is just a rumor that i heard from a few salesmen (and for my friends sake, cause he is in so much pain that he does not have his yet)..
Apparently (this may be untrue, the next year cobalt ss may not be Supercharged)

i hope that is wrong cause i hope they keep it cause i would love to get an LSD and the new seats install at the dealership (or even order it)

any body that can prove this wrong please (I REALLY WANNA ORDER THE LSD, and get it install later)

87camaroPA

There are going to be two SS's on with a 2.4L non-supercharged and the Supercharged 2.0L.

Hey I'm gonna go off topic here too but check this out. This a true story,
just remember I'm a little older than you guys.

My wife and I bought our Cobalt SS on 04/02/05 from a dealer in Pittsburgh
(we live in North East, Md.). We went to pick up our plates from the MVA
here in Md. and my wife had been flagged for not turning in tags after insurance
was canceled. Md. law is very strict on this shit. Well to get our tags we were
told we had to pay the fee. The FEE was a staggering $3,300.00 (no shit)

But through sweet talk (kissin ass) and shotty documentation we got this fee waived,
after three visits and five days.

Fighting the MVA here is like fighting the IRS. I look at this as a miracle.

I'm so glad we got that takin care of. I almost regretted buyin this car............................................... .................................................. .................NOT.

picked up my arival blue ss 5-3-05 car is super fast and have not even give it much throttle since it only has as of tonight 51 miles on it. i think it is the only blue one in ca. , also i dont think that the perf package is still offered if you look at gm.com and try to build a cobalt ss the option is not there that may have been some of the hold up on getting the cars out there for sale

87camaroPA

well im gonna go check out the SS at one of the lots today...
and i am goin to take a look at the LS (but it is an AUTO i want 5spd)
dont hate me for this next part

I am also going to go check out a 2004 Acura RSX Type S that a dealer has...

i also like the ls at the lot here cause it has a nice kit on it. (still not 5Spd) but mabye i can order one (oh yeah ill take pics it looks decent)

I was deciding between an '05 RSX-S and a Cobalt SS.

I test drove an '05 Type S and was not overly impressed with the performance compared to my '95 Talon. It's probably not a fair comparison because my Talon is far from stock - but it's getting up there in years so it's time for a new beast.

For a $42,000 (CDN) car I cannot believe some of the features that were left off the RSX. For instance, no HID lights, no power seats, 5 1/4 Subwoofer (what a joke), and the deck doesn't even play MP3's. I would expect at least some of these features for a car that costs that much. Granted it's an Acura and the fit, finish and refinement is quite good.

Now for the SS, after looking at what you get for $27K (CDN) including the sunroof it's actually an excellent value. Hell, the thing has a 10" sub and can play MP3's. It even has 60 more ft lbs of torque than the RSX.

On paper the SS looks like a better value for the money which is why I have decided to get one.

Now if I can only find one to test drive. My dealer said they'll be getting 8 in 6-8 weeks and that I can leave a $1k deposit. If I change my mind I won't lose the money because they can turn around and sell it just as easy.

The RSX-S usually runs about 24k, doesn't it? That's about 4 grand more. But still, bang for the buck, the SS would be a sweet deal.

It translates to being a fuck of alot coin to spend on a car :D
I find it's too much to spend - especially when it doesn't come with a few features I was looking for. A 5" subwoofer for god's sake - why even bother??

I could spend the money and get an S but it's a matter of being practical and giving my head a shake. Plus Acura up here doesn't give cash purchase incentives while GM does.

Btw, $37K CDN = $29K US (pulls shaft out of ass)

Sorry for goin off topic but did you know that some people actually make their livings by exchanging currency? Like for instance if two currencies are close in value they will try to echange a lump sum of the higher value currency for a larger sum of the lower value currency, if its value is rising, and once the lower passes the higher then they reswap it for MORE of the initial currency. Its a pretty good idea, but kinda hard to do when you live smack dab in the middle of the nation!!!
