: Dyno results of our 05 SS, Video of car on dyno !!
Modernceo 04-27-2005, 12:16 PM Dyno results of our 05 SS, Video of car on dyno !!
We installed a drop in style filter into the airbox of our 05 Cobalt SS, and dyno tested our car before and after. We didnt expect anymore than 2-3 hp at most, but regardless, because we had never dyno tested the car before we wanted to see how much power it would put down.
The dyno tests were done at Carboy in Houston Texas, 3rd gear runs for both dyno results. We gained a consistent 1.5 - 2 hp across the board, even more for torque on the lower end. The peak numbers are a little off for hp after though as the dyno operator bounced off the rev limiter and created a spike which gave higher than normal dyno numbers.
Anyways, heres the dyno result :

Want to check out a video of our car on the dyno and hear the supercharger whine ?

We are very pleased with the dyno results, especially with GM rating the Cobalt SS at 205hp / 195 tq and we put down a solid 217 hp and 185 torque at the wheels. Definitely underrated for HP !!
We will continue working on the Cobalt to increase its performance and will have plenty of pictures of the new items, and dyno results to show the differences before and after.

roninsoldier83 04-27-2005, 01:02 PM Nice numbers man!!! 205bhp my ass!!! On my calculator, 217whp, given an extremely efficient drivetrain, I used a lowball figure of a 10% drivetrain loss, even though it is probably more than that, I came up with 238hp at the crank. Given a larger 15% drivetrain loss factor, I calculated 249hp, granted that is a generous figure, and that was also based off it's 217whp baseline. My guess is that it's somewhere in between those 2 figures at the crank. Way to go GM!!
SRT THIS 04-27-2005, 03:57 PM Sweet #'s, definately underated, now pop on those power mods :D
87camaroPA 04-27-2005, 04:37 PM I am impressed that is awsome that really that Cobalt SS does have more power than thougt to have. And please keep us up to date and the car sounds awsome. Did you happen to any mods to the air box or was that just with the stock air box?
WRicerX 04-27-2005, 04:57 PM Nice, this car might end up being something to be reckoned with. ;)

Yeah they might. :p LOL J/K
deuses300c 04-27-2005, 10:35 PM omg  i want
bikeluver43 04-29-2005, 09:52 AM GM underated the HP but Overated the Torque LOL.
redlineRACER 04-29-2005, 10:07 AM very nice numbers...how was that car broken in..hard or easy or was it broken in at all...those are almost identical numbers for the redline..our cars are definetly underated...this proves again that a cobalt ss and redline race will be a drivers race... :D I CANT WAIT!!!...hurry up and get some cobalt ss's out to so cal!!! LOL...for real tho..
slow4dr 04-29-2005, 10:09 AM Congrats on the #'s, Is this the highest so far?
The way it's still climbing I can't wait to see one spun up to 7500 rpm. ;)
CoBIZZLE 04-29-2005, 10:17 AM Those are really good numbers, but Im with a lot of the SRT-4 guys, I just wish they woulda upped the torque. I still haven't heard where the rev limit is set at (Im sure it has one) does anybody know? Or how far it can be raised safely?
WRicerX 04-29-2005, 10:50 AM OT - slow4dr, your project car looks like a crazy one. I would love to see that.

Thanks man, I will have some pics up very soon. I have been holding out until the engine is actually mounted. It has already stirred up quite a storm though.
:D
CoBIZZLE 04-29-2005, 11:12 AM Wow sorry for stayin off topic but thats a Supra engine correct?!?! That would be interesting. Ive seen a guy drop an SR20 into an S-10 before. Definitely post pics when you get it done.
TedStriker 04-29-2005, 02:13 PM cool #'s. What they run at the track?
slowassneon.com 04-29-2005, 03:44 PM What's the weight on these cars?
CoBIZZLE 04-29-2005, 03:57 PM Around 28-2900 lbs.
87camaroPA 04-29-2005, 06:51 PM Wow sorry for stayin off topic but thats a Supra engine correct?!?! That would be interesting. Ive seen a guy drop an SR20 into an S-10 before. Definitely post pics when you get it done.
Yeah i think it is a super engine. But i saw some one put a small block chevy in a 72 Nissan 240Z it was a insane car to see do a burn out.
CoBIZZLE 04-29-2005, 07:08 PM Was it a REAL dark green or maybe even a black Nissan, and if so then did he do donuts at the end of the vid? If so then I seen that one!
boycer 04-29-2005, 07:13 PM So, sorda back on topic, we think we can get around 300 engine hp with reprogramming, alky injection, intake, pulley?
CoBIZZLE 04-29-2005, 07:16 PM Dude Ill go ahead and tell ya, 300hp at the CRANK will be no prob whatsoever, at the wheels will be harder but still very doable with such a great platform. <===Theres that silly platform term again... :D
boycer 04-29-2005, 10:26 PM How bad is torque steer going to be?
CoBIZZLE 05-01-2005, 01:47 AM Some say it has a good deal of torque steer but it has equal length half shafts and with the LSD I think the torque steer will end up bein less than the SRT-4. As for a first hand experience, you'll prolly have to ask an owner, but might be able to find somebody that was lucky enough to test drive one alone (without dealer). ;)
slow4dr 05-04-2005, 09:12 AM Wow sorry for stayin off topic but thats a Supra engine correct?!?!
Yep, The MKIV 93-98 Supra
So, sorda back on topic, we think we can get around 300 engine hp with reprogramming, alky injection, intake, pulley?
I think it will be fairly easy. Much like the SRT the limiting factor is going to be the factory compressor.
VeloSSity 05-12-2005, 11:59 AM Congrats on the #'s, Is this the highest so far?
The way it's still climbing I can't wait to see one spun up to 7500 rpm. ;)
I was thinking the same thing!!! Keep that thing spinning!!!! :D
VeloSSity 05-12-2005, 12:00 PM GM underated the HP but Overated the Torque LOL.
No they didn't. Those power numbers were measured at the wheels, and GM rates power figures at the engine. They underrated the peak torque as well.
Bradyb 05-13-2005, 11:55 AM So, when was the last time you guys calibrated your dyno? I hope that's not a Mustang dyno;)
VeloSSity 05-13-2005, 10:04 PM So, when was the last time you guys calibrated your dyno? I hope that's not a Mustang dyno;)
YIKES! If that's a Mustang Dyno, we've got an absolute monster on our hands!!!!
dazednconfused75 05-13-2005, 11:20 PM Those numbers are about consitant with what Red Line owners have been getting.
