I need a little bit of help. My 2005 Cobalt LS is throwing the check engine light because of my AEM intake. I tried disconnecting the battery and plugging it back in. The light was off for about 10 miles and went back on. I have been driving with the light on for a month now waiting for it to adjust and it went off one time for a day after 2 1/2 weeks of driving and then came back on for the last 2 weeks. It just won't go off. Is there any one that can help me with this problem? Does anyone thing there is a problem with my mass air flow censor?

Did you make sure to point the mass air-flow sensor in the right direction? I hear that can be a problem.

I am going to check at lunch. i believe the scews are off set and the sensor can only go in the one way. But i am going to check.

That is correct. The holes only line up the one way.

I would check all the MJ clamps as well, to make sure they are still snug and there isn't a small leak along the pipe route.

I have never had a CEL but that may be due to the fact mine is a 2006 and the computer program may be slightly adjusted to allow for more air. Or it could be elavation, temp etc etc.

How many miles on your AEM CAI? I want a dry flow but hear just about everything throws a CEL save for the K&N drop in, plus our intake pipes stock allow the flow of air as well as any of the kits. I am told that the point of restriction is the filter and the air box not the pipes, but I love the dry flow I have on my Silverado.

Let me know.

Thanks!

My cobalt is a 2005 and my aem intake came with the dry flow filter. I went through and check all the clamps and made sure they are tight. I live in PA so I don't think that elevation will have anything to do with my intake. I think I might have a bad censor. GM said that they fixed this problem for the 2006 cobalts. It is just the 2005 cobalts that throw the cell alot because of the PO171 Lean code. I have about 1000 on my intake I think. I put it in over a month ago.

I have about a 5 weeks with it on so far, approx 700 miles. So far no light and the WEGO says the air\ fuel is a-ok.

You are right about the stock setup. I wish I would have listened to myself (and the few others), and just put a K&N filter in and hacked up the stock box. The stock piping is exactly the same as all the CAI's out there in the terms of flow. If you want aluminum go with aftermarket, if it is a slight power and whine you are after, go with the airbox mod. Save your $$$$. I wouldn't have cared if it looked welfare with the mod, it is in the fender and out of sight anyway.

I wonder if I did something to mess up the censor right after I put the intake in. I was flying all over the place like 15 minutes after I put it in flooring it and flying doewn the highway. I wonder if I didn't give it enough of a chance to adjust before flying all over the place.
