: HID kits for your Cobalt
Dark Syde SRT-4 04-29-2005, 05:50 PM well just wanted to open up this post by first saying hello everyone. I am currently a vendor on here as well as srtforums.com (i own a srt-4) and many other sites. I wanted to give you all a heads up that i have HID kits for your cars... here is some info on the kits i offer.
we have VHO HID's (very high output) they use a 50watt ballast instead of a 35 watt. the difference is AWSOME! very bright HID's. below are some prices if we get enough people the price will come down.
Plug and play HID's (4000K-12000K except the VHO) you are looking at 300+shipping
for those who want to stand out the VHO kit is available for 425+shipping (remember these are at least twice as bright as normal HID's and these come in all ranges from 4000-12000k).
these kits are great (i am using them on my srt-4) we also have kits for motorcycles which is a nice way to add some "bling" to your bikes.. we can also get aftermarket fogs (HID) but PM me for the price. If we get enough people wanting these kits the prices will drop.
Included in kits are as follows:
The VHO (Very High Output) HID Conversion kit will use genuine HID bulbs and ballasts. Custom moulded bases will be used to ensure proper fitment and beam patterns. This product will include a complete wiring harness that will literally plug directly into your OEM headlight harness via proper mating connectors. The harness provided will include upgraded fuses and relays to ensure you do not draw a higher current from your stock harness than it was designed to provide.
This kit will include the following:
2 x ballast cradles
2 x 50 Watt Xenon Capsules
2 x Upgraded 50 Watt Ballasts
Complete wiring harness
Manufacturer's 1 Yr Warranty
Complete instruction manual.
non VHO kit will include the following:
2 x ballast cradles
2 x Xenon Capsules
2 x Ballasts
Complete wiring harness
Complete instruction manual.

CoBIZZLE 04-29-2005, 05:55 PM Sweet, they look good, what kind of bulbs would it use same stock number or no?? and how long do they last?
Dark Syde SRT-4 04-29-2005, 05:59 PM it will use HID bulbs the plug ends are the same as your factory bulbs. the kits are 100% plug and play and take about an hour to install... let me say it again 100% plug and play! we offer a 1yr warrenty on the bulbs, ballasts, and wiring and the bulbs last (depending on useage) around 1.5-2yr but if you have any problems with them we have replacements. we have nothing but pos feedback on srtforums and everyone was supprised with the quality (very good quality) in fact one of the members got into a bit of a wreck head on and the HID's pulled through and worked fine even after the wreck...
Dark Syde SRT-4 04-29-2005, 06:02 PM here is a quick rundown for everyone:
Halogen wattage 50w
HID wattage 35w (ballast is what makes the power)
Halogen Lumens 1,330
HID Lumens 3,500
Halogen Life Expectancy 350 hours
HID Life Expectancy 2,500 hours
Halogen Efficiency (LM/W lumens to wattage) 15
HID Efficiency (LM/W lumens to wattage) 100
CoBIZZLE 04-29-2005, 06:11 PM Well I was talkin bout the very high output ones, are they completely plug n go? And do they last generally the same amount of time?? Also what about S-10s I already got one of those :D

yes the VHO kits last the same. i have them for all makes and models.. right now i have some 8000K in stock VHO (one of the nicest looking colors out there)
CoBIZZLE 04-29-2005, 06:20 PM Didnt you say you can get them for up to 12K??? If so when do you think you'll have some in???
Dark Syde SRT-4 04-29-2005, 06:31 PM Didnt you say you can get them for up to 12K??? If so when do you think you'll have some in???
they are special order items im trying to order a few kits.. to be honest the 12k is a redish pink and well you know the police they tend to not like that on a car.. the 8K is a nice color very exotic blue thats not as bad as having red (i have yet to get pulled over with my 8k vho) and i have a set in stock right now that i can have to you in 2-3 business days.
CoBIZZLE 04-29-2005, 08:32 PM Well Im gonna have to wait a lil longer than that my check this week is goin to pay off my S-10 but I'll definitely holla back at ya!
87camaroPA 04-29-2005, 09:14 PM I have a queastion for you are they 50 state legal? I have to watch out because if cops are real A$$HOLES around here.
But your kits look really nice.
Dark Syde SRT-4 04-29-2005, 10:00 PM as with any aftermarket HID kit (dont let the company tell you they are 50 state legal because they are not.) these are not a 50 state legal kit (no HID kit that is aftermarket is) but i as well as my customers have not had any problems due to the kits... and where we live they are VERY hard on us yet we have not had any problems. let me know if you are willing to go with a kit.
CoBIZZLE 05-01-2005, 12:57 AM Shit Ive been runnin blue corners and tails (just runners not brakes) on my S-10 for OVER a year now and have picked up a few traffic tickets 2 speeding, one "neglecting" a stop sign... rolled through it doin about 0.00073 FEET an hour  That cop was a jerk!! But none of them have ever said anything about my lights or my tint either! KNOCK ON WOOD!!!
Dark Syde SRT-4 05-01-2005, 03:32 AM so does that mean you would like to buy a kit :)

hbko181 05-09-2005, 08:24 AM Can yo use the Hi-Beans with these or no? Just curious I has these on my Saturn ION a while back and You could Not use the HI Beams. I have a Redline Will these work with it??
Dark Syde SRT-4 05-11-2005, 10:13 PM i actually do not have any more Hi/Low kits these are single stage (low beam) but i have a new one out its using a h4 bulb that is run like a HI/low kit (gives more light output when highbeams are applied) if your interested you can have the 1st one for the cobalt (i just got these in and i like how they work out :) ill try to get some pix soon for everyone )
87camaroPA 05-11-2005, 11:40 PM Ok i am looking forward to seeing it.

silverss 05-31-2005, 07:00 PM hey im interested in your HID kits, i was actually waiting for more stuff to come out, and see how peoples experiences are with these on the cobalt before i buy them, but i will keep you in mind.
GoofyGuy 06-10-2005, 03:28 PM I have HIDs on my Redline and man what a differnce. No high beams but hell if you adjust them right you dont need them. I have not had one person flash me yet I have had them a few weeks and I pass a lot of people at night on long open roads if you know what I mean.

go to www.srtforums.com and look in the lighting mods (im a vendor there also) not 1 complaint yet and over 80 kits sold
Mercury 08-13-2005, 07:06 AM Yeah, no high beams...... you are putting an hid bulb in a halogen bireflector housing.... your highbeams are lit up as well as your low beams... who would want that?
BatmanX 08-30-2005, 02:02 AM Okay. So i have been reading the post here about the HID kits. I have a few questions...duh.
1. When you install the HID kit, will you lose you High-beam function? Okay this is answered.
2. Luxury cars that come with HID lights such as the IS300 or GS430. Do they have high beam lights? If so? Are they Halogens or HIDs? I would think HIDs in high-beam mode would light up half the block.
3. What is the current kelvan color for the Is300 or GS430 (2006 models)?
4. What kind of impact does this have on the electric system of a Cobalt in general?
Thank you in advance for answering the questions.
Mercury 08-31-2005, 11:48 AM 1. When you install the HID kit, will you lose you High-beam function? Yes because the only HID high beam is used on a bi-xenon projector.
2. Luxury cars that come with HID lights such as the IS300 or GS430. Do they have high beam lights? If so? Are they Halogens or HIDs? They are halogen when used with a reflector lense 3. What is the current kelvan color for the Is300 or GS430 (2006 models)?True HID is all 4100k-4300k. All other kevlan are tinted hid capsules just like tinted HID look bulbs.
4. What kind of impact does this have on the electric system of a Cobalt in general? The cobalt, like every other halogen equipped car, the wiring is made for a 55w halogen bulb. Although HIDs run at 30w, upon start up they use up to 3x the power of a 55w halogen bulb. This could damage your entire wiring system. The best way to prep for HIDs is to make or buy a wiring harness with thicker gauge wire to compensate for the higher wattage.
Please don't buy HID kits, they are illegal and cause glare and if above 4300k, you are actually decreasing your light output and visibility. Keep it real, do a retrofit of a projector that was designed to distribute HID light. Check out HIDPLANET (http://www.hidplanet.com) for more information. :D
I want HIDs for my cobalt. I have a set of ballasts, ignitors, and bulbs, but they don't fit, they are 9007's but won't fit in my reflector for some reason, the locking base is odd.
Would you be willing to do a partial trade for my old ballast and ignitors and extra cash for a cobalt HID set? Or, can you provide me with bulbs that will fit my ignitor and ballast that will work in my cobalt?

This answered all my questions. The main one being glare for other drivers. I suffer extensively from this and I absolutely hate when it happens.
I was leaning towards sticking with clear glass HO halogens and this sealed the deal. Who cares about what your headlights look like when you're NOT causing people to drive off the road into ditches?
