ok just wanted to say just got my SS like last monday. Starting to think about modding. But not really sure due to my last car catching fire and exploding (not from me modding). And not really interested in hacking apart a brand new car w/ less than 500 miles on it. And causing it to run like shit.

But anyhow i have owned many turbo cars and i know how turbo timers work. I havn't owned any supercharged cars until now. My question is do superchargers benefit from being cooled down as does a turbo. Or are they pretty sturdy? Just curious is to if it will be something useful or just a waste of money.

Thx guys.

Dont think supercharged cars need it like the turbo's do. I have never personally witnessed any, but that doesnt mean they dont exist. Good question though....

The whole point of turbo timers is because of the way turbocharger bearings are constructed.

The bearings in the turbocharger receives oil from the engine's lubrication system, which is absolutely critical to the functioning of the hydrodynamic bearing. When you turn the engine off, the oil no longer flows to the turbocharger's bearings. This can lead to damage of the bearings if you suddenly cut the oil supply while the turbocharger is hot. Therefore, most manufacturers suggest you let it idle for a few minutes, to let some oil circulate through the bearings and cool them down. The turbo timer just does this for you, so you don't have to sit and wait.

A supercharger gains no benefit from this, as it is not cooled/lubricated using the engine oil.
