Buick -

GNX. No other name in automotive history says "80's Supercar" like those three letters. Now the legend is back.

Buicks 2007 GNX is a modern-day incarnation of classic street performance. When you turn the key and hear the throaty dual exhausts announcing the Twin Turbo 3.6L V-6, you'll know you have your hands full. Compared to its '80s namesake, the new GNX sports a suspension that is tighter, an engine that's more powerful and a manual transmission that now boasts two additional gears. The car will hit 60 mph (97 km/h) in about four-and-a-half seconds, and run the quarter mile in under 13 seconds. There's nothing like it in its class.

Total performance

The completely new GNX isn't just about horsepower, of course. Its unique personality includes impressive cornering abilities, a smooth ride and surprising comfort. But the heart of the GNX is indeed a truly awesome Twin Turbo and Intercooled 3.6l V-6 engine, also known as the base powerplant for the Buick Velite Concept. The GNX produces an estimated 450 horsepower and with 465 lb.-ft. of torque, it has no problem leaving a stop with purpose.

Eighteen-inch alloy wheels and performance tires are matched to a fully independent, performance-tuned suspension featuring direct-acting stabilizing bars and power rack-and-pinion steering. Traction control and a limited slip differentials also come standard. And, today's GNX revs through six forward speeds with the close-ratio manual transmission, or you can choose a six-speed Hydra-Matic. Both come with a 3.46:1 final drive ratio.

Performance-oriented interior

The GNX is, first and foremost, a driver's car. Every detail, from the satin-finish steering wheel to the race-inspired metallic pedals, gives the driver a sense of performance from the moment the car is entered. The standard feature list starts off with leather 2+2 bucket seats, in black -color-coordinated with the vehicle's exterior color. The high-tech seats provide lateral support, wrapping around the driver and front passenger and complementing the great handling characteristics of the chassis. Also standard is a six-disc CD-changer with premium 10-speaker sound system, cruise control, a multi-function driver information center, keyless entry system and a host of other features to enhance the driving experience.

Sensuous design

Rather than create an imitation of the original legend, the 2007 GNX provides a contemporary interpretation of the classic buick sports coupe. The distinctive, tautly stretched exterior, aggressive lowered stance and sleek, simple form all help express the clean, athletic styling direction of Buick. Add this to the obvious performance of the vehicle and you have a rear-wheel-drive TT+I V-6-powered premium sports coupe wrapped in a seamless, modern design.

Safety and quality

Bringing the GNX to a safe stop is accomplished through standard four-wheel disc brakes (ventilated front, solid rear), part of a four-channel anti-lock braking system. Other standard safety features include dual front air bags, three-point safety belts for all occupants and an Emergency Mode that automatically shuts down the engine, turns off the fuel pump, unlocks the doors and turns on the dome light any time the air-bag system is deployed.

Production of the 2007 Buick GNX will begin in September 2006 at Holden's award-winning Elizabeth plant in Australia using the latest techniques to ensure both measurable and "perceived" quality. Projected annual production will be 18,000 vehicles.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!

I like but i wish they would not use the GTO as the platform. I wish they would just make on for it. But i know it keeps the price down and makes it easier to reproduce. :)

I have been looking for a real nice sport sedan, and this baby takes that to a whole new meaning. American ingenuity at it's best. It's about time a new GNX stepped back out onto the streets. ....I wonder who the first dumba$$ is going to be that tried to race one? Some little SRT or Cobalt driver thinking he has the fastest thing on 4 wheels. Nah, Probably one of those dang EVO or WRX guys...... (points to WRicerX)

Photoshop, fake, not being made, yadda yadda yadda. If any of you cant tell its a p-chop, then you must be blind and please dont ever drive again. Find me one piece of factual evidence that its being made, and I'll retract my statement.

I do think the pic is a photoshop (looks just like a GTO) BUT if you do a search on the internet, you'll see that Buick IS considering bringin back a Grand National. It just makes sense with what GM is doin too, the GTO, The CTS-V, the rumored soon to return Camaro, the rest of the V-series Caddies, etc. GM has been releasing more and more REAL performance vehicles lately! I think it is a good possibility!!

They're "considering" it, but it more than likely won't happen. GM just recently had announced the possible plans to axe another section of themselves, saying Pontiac and Buick were nearest to the chopping block.

I'd like to see it be made, but like the Camaro, it's probably going to remain a fantasy.

Gunna agree with that one, GM has no RWD plans at the moment due to their financial crisis, combined with the fact that Zeta, the chasis for the buick RWD performance car, was canceled except for Holden's use, its unlikely.

Holden can't export it either as the UAW made a deal with GM that they could only import 18K GTOs a year.

Buick very well may come out with this car, but it won't be anytime soon, nor will it look like that.

Plus anyone given some thought to what engine is in it? What V6 does GM have that puts out that much power? Or wouldn't require substantial mods to put out that much?

I can tell you that there are A LOT of artist renderings of the Cobalt, doesn't mean they aren't real! I don't think you are really bursting anybodies bubble because they heard what they heard and you heard what you did. Either could be right, what you said isn't nessaccarily(sp?) 100% the truth!

That is a really nice Monaro there with GNX badges on it and a nice front end treatment to boot! However, I hae some issues believing some of it...

The 3.6L DOHC TT V6 does exist, GM showed it at a show about five years ago when they debuted the "High Feature" DOHC 60deg V6 line (3.4L, 3.6L, etc) alongside the "High Value" OHV 60deg V6 line (3.5L, 3.9L) as the mainstays of their "car" powertrain over the next few years. It was rated at 400hp. It was on an engine stand. It looked really cool. Later, they put it in Buick concepts. The Velite (gorgeous!) and Centieme (ick!) both sported the 400hp TT motor. They also brought the 6L80E transmission into the world. Ahh, history.

Fast forward to today, and we're faced with "Is that Monaro a GNX? I think it looks like a great car, much deserving of production, but I can't believe it right now. GM is in ruins, and a GNX isn't going to fix that. The new Cobalt, Impala, HHR, Solstice, Sky, and Trucks may turn things around, but until then, I wouldn't hold out.

Besides, it's a historical atrocity to have a 60deg V6 in a Buick engine bay. Buick motors are 90deg, always have been. It would be much more fitting to have a 3800 Series4 TT with three-valve heads (they're reportedly in testing according to ClubGP and GMI members) or even a 4100 Series4 TT if they feel the need to bust out the old "No replacement for displacement!" mantra that seems to be widespread at GM lately.

tru that, ma brother...if its real then its bad ass...but someone jus said it was a photochop done for a contest on a grand prix website or something (read it in another forum)...who knows tho...if i had to guess i would def say it was fake.

GM should take a page from the guy who built the dildo, if you build it they will come!! I would trade the srt in a minute for rwd and a turbo. Grand nationals were and is one of my favorite cars of all time. :D That 1 looks badass.

Yeah Its fake.. but I could only wish it was true. I made it one night becuase I was bored and couldn't sleep.

I just posted it on a regal forum and the grand prix forum. I didn't know It would hit so big. I have seen it on tons of forums, and even heard it was in a few magazine's.

Anyways, dont get your hopes up. GM wont build it, and we all know that.
