: 2.2 Airbox Mod
D4u2s0t 08-28-2006, 11:31 PM Well, there's absolutely no how to's here, so i guess i should chip in while i'm here... to do this airbox mod for the 2.2 (will also be the same for the 2.4) jack up the front passenger side, take off the wheel, remove the clips in the fenderliner... once you get the fenderliner back, you will see this obnoxiously large peice of plastic there... it is held on by a screw and a few plastic clips... take off the screw, you can feel around it's hard to see, and then just yank the fucker out... may take some effort... once it's out, throw it on the ground, or you can pretend you're playing a tuba, because that's what it looks like... fenderliner back on, wheel back on... switch you stock air filter for a K&N and boom... pretty much the same thing as a cai for 39 dollars instead of 250;.
Show Off 08-28-2006, 11:37 PM fairly good idea, but that helps direct that colder air into the engine bay.. i would just buy a cold air intake or make your own up. my injen cai actually replaces your tuba as well. keeps the cooler air in the engine bay. i cant stand how hot my ride gets.... all i got on now is a short ram part cause i cant get to the damn fender clips cause of my body kit ( i freaking hate that)!!!!

negative... it's very restrictive, and there's another tube that sits in the fender well also... if you unclip your airbox, remove the filter, and look you'll see what i mean... it's basically taking all the restrictions out of the airbox... same thing a cai would do without the bling
Show Off 08-28-2006, 11:42 PM lol, im confused. ok.
1. take off all engine covers.
2. remove tubing from throttle to that box..
3. take off the box.
now all you should see is a black tube disapeering into the wheel well (the begining part to your tuba).
then take clips off, pull back the wheel well liner and theres the other part of the tuba... right???????

box that sits on the throttle body stays there... you leave the box that's in your car... the piece that you remove in the wheel well... i'll take some pics, make it easier... it's almost 2 am though, so i'll do it tomorrow... but to answer your questions, yes, there it is... can't miss it
CoBIZZLE 08-28-2006, 11:49 PM You happen to have pics?!?!, it may help folks understand a lil better... and would make for a good sticky...
Show Off 08-28-2006, 11:51 PM i might still have the ones that came with my injen somewhere i have to look. but hey i will be doing how to's on my header, exhasut, and pulley if i get my friend to help put them in.
D4u2s0t 08-29-2006, 12:10 AM Ok, so here's some pics i just snapped... it's late, and they're in my living room but i think you can get the idea... here goes...
this first pic is what the resonator looks like... i put a ps2 game there just for a size comparison...
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b104/D4u2s0t/res6.jpg
this one is the view that you will have when you take back the fenderline... the foam piece to the top right would connect to the bottom side of your airbox
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b104/D4u2s0t/res2.jpg
removal is simple... there's a clip here:
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b104/D4u2s0t/res3.jpg
and one here:

here's a better view of the botom clip:

this will improve your throttle response, and make your car much louder compared to stock... the noise is not noticed when driving normal... you will notice it most at wot around 4k rpm... any questions, hit me up... add a K&N filter, same performance as a cai
CoBIZZLE 08-29-2006, 12:12 AM Sweet... anybody wants this stickied lemme know...
CoBIZZLE 08-29-2006, 12:12 AM Those pics even though they aren't actually IN the car seem explanitory enough. And make it even easier to understand... Preciate it ;)

yea... it's a piece of cake mod, anyone can do it... the biggest pain is jacking up the car and removing the tire!
Show Off 08-29-2006, 01:32 AM damn that fn thing is behind my freeking wheelwell. oh that this is def coming out!
whodis 08-29-2006, 10:59 AM i should prob do that as well.
Show Off 08-29-2006, 09:06 PM yea if i find my other intake peice, im def. going to do that. help keep my temps down a bit more too
mikeyb0y 08-30-2006, 12:03 AM would it be a better improvement if u do all the steps above and still purchased a cold air intake?
JohnsRallyYellowSS 08-30-2006, 12:21 AM What would be the use in doing the mod if you just go ahead and get the CAI? The only problem you may run into is if you put the CAI on, the engine light may come on, but most of the time that is if you replace the MAF in upside down or damage it. Ive had no problem with mine, the only diff is its SC. Should work just as good on the 2.2 or 2.4
mikeyb0y 08-30-2006, 12:59 AM  u are correct... i guess my common sence is already in bed but my mind is processing a bowtie!
whodis 08-30-2006, 11:07 AM by taking out the other tube, it should let more air underneath hood and aloow for cooler temps. i already have the short ram intake on and never have had a CEL. it may not even make a difference. i will take it off this weekend and see.
06cobaltls 08-31-2006, 03:20 PM so how big of a difference does this make
Show Off 08-31-2006, 09:50 PM yea i have the injen shortram and i never had a cel to date and i put it in last year.
damn im drunk!

Show Off 09-16-2006, 10:09 AM what kind of intake kit do you have, did you make sure the masf is installed correctly?
D4u2s0t 09-16-2006, 01:40 PM ok i did this mod and put everything back and now i am throwing a code, unpluged batterie to try and reset still getting code any help?
double check that everything is tight... if done correctly, and everything was put back properly, you should not have a code
