: 2007 Chevy Camaro: Fact Or Fiction

Ive been seeing pictures and news about a 2007 Chevy Camaro. GM hasnt said anything official, but everyone is very skeptical. The drawn pictures look cool, i forget the sites, but it looked like a camaro could be making a comeback to compete with the Mustang. Problem is, the Camaro was supposedly going to be built on the "zeta" platform, but GM has cancelled the zeta platform and will not use it anymore. So, the possibilities of the Camaro making a comeback may not happen. I own a 1998 Camaro RS, and I love it. Would be nice to see it come back, but only time will tell. Oh yea, the Pontiac GTO has done absolutly nothing in the market, and I hear 2006 will be the last year for the GTO, a dealer told me that and someone I know that works closly with GM. Man, we need a new V8/V6 american muscle car...

i'm less optomistic. With all the Gm problems as of late, and them continually making stupid decisions on vehicle choices, i don't see them having the finances to put towards the marketing of a niche vehicle. of course that's because they've put so much time into putting a 5.3L v8 into a monte carlo and impala only to keep it FWD. coulda had it RWD, and the people that WERE interested in the v8 be happier but now it's "just another FWD" vehicle. same thing with the additions to the Malibu and Malibu MAXX SS. Just stupid ideas that no one really cares about. These vehicles already have torque steer like a bitch. And to keep production up on the SSR is stupid since it's only a regional vehicle.

It's Fiction. It's been known for some time that the Zeta RWD platform was abandoned by GM. If there IS a new Camaro, it certainly wont be a 2007. More like 2010, if GM gets themselves reorganized and back on track.

Well for one the GTO is doing very well this year, selling near its production goal every month, the 04 was a bit less but is still selling.

The Monte and Impala are/were going to stay FWD untill their next generation in 08-10. Thus since RWD is out why not throw in a V8 and get better performance of the cars your stuck with.

The GTO will continue in Aussie as the Monaro, so since GTO production is based there you very well may see it imported here as is the case now, but you could also see a pause in production untill GM gets their zeta platform up in 07. Zeta wasn't canceled, just postponned untill the GMT-900 trucks come out. So you could very well see the Camaro as soon as 07, but again don't hold your breath.

As for details, expect to see it under the GTO, but cheaper. Expect an LS1 rivaling 5.3L Z28, and a LS2 SS model, with a V6 base model. Expect the SS to be around 30K, but under the GTOs 33k. And a Z28 around 23-25K.

At least thats what I hear....

Well they might be going with dual over head cams for the 5.3 like the Mustangs(4.6L) are. That might just be it.

zeta platform got moved / was moved a while ago to austrailia, where the GTO was developed, it's pretty certain it will not be for the original '07 model year. When? I am still pretty sure they will bring it back, its just when they get around to it, and if it will look like a camaro, seeing as its being developed in austrailia and all......

Zeta didn't really get moved, it was born and raised in Australia, GM was just going to use Holdens new flagship platform for its new cars, so while GM has postponned using it, Holden is continuing to use it because they originall designed and implemented it.

Haha, it's been almost a YEAR since the last post in this thread. Anyway, if all goes well for me, I'll probably do the same as you. As much as I'll miss my Cobalt, that feeling will go away when I take off from a light..... :D

Go ahead and start saving up for one cause when, and i do mean when, they make the new camaro, it is going to be a license to print money IF they make it affordable. I had the opportunity to see the private unveiling at the AJC auto show (yea, i know everyone hates me now) and it looks about 10 times better in person than it does in the photos.

The only thing you have to worry about is prices. I mean, there SHOULD be a 20K V6 model for the younger/female buyers but with the Cobalt SS/SC doing a great job holding down the $20K performance car category, i am beginning to worry about how high the V8 prices will go. (especially with dealership markups).

Wrong. Thats one of Kris Horton's renditions... that concept will not see production... The one that will go into production will be the silver one on Chevy's website.

yea cobizzle is right. they already have a concept car built so if they build a new camaro it would likely look much like the concept one that is already built and showing.

Yea, that pic is like 2 years old and was done by a very talented college student I beleive. But anyway, don't get your hopes up about Firebird. The firebird was a great car, even iconic, but it caused internal competition with camaro and instead of having one great selling car, they had two mediocre selling cars.

Also, the trans-am cost GM money every time they stamped it on a car because they had to pay royalties to the racing series.

So firebird is dead, trans-am is even deader.......erm...more dead.

If camaro is to have a sister car, it will be a redesigned GTO.

I've heard 2009 on the Zeta platform with the possibility of a low-powered V8 with DoD for the base model, (i think they should go with a V6 as the base instead.) and a 6.0 or 7.0 V8 for the Z28/SS models. However, the Convertable will be 6-12 months behind the coupes release, and they are currently working on have optional T-tops... 2006 IS the Goat's last year of production in this body style. The GTO will come back in 2009 along with the Camaro.
