It has been a long time since my last update, so now I will let everyone in on where the project is at.
My complete car has been shipped to JBP as they get ready to assemble everything and then dyno tune and road test it.
The engine is waiting on the new Wiseco 8.0:1 pistons and then the engine goes back together. The head is all prepped and the deck plates have been made so each cylinder can have it own seal. The new intake manifold\intercooler has been finished. With this setup comes something not seen before and while some will be willing to pay the price, it won't be available to buy for a few months yet. The expectation is for the engine to be complete in two weeks. Once the engine is re-installed the new fuel system will be done. This will include a much bigger pump, a quality regulator and a fuel return setup. Tuning is still to be done with HPTuners but the fine details will be decided when the car breathes life once again.
The turbo setup is still going to be a twin turbo but it won't be a identical twin set. Instead it will be a maternal twin set. This will be a sequential setup with smaller of the two turbo's spooling by 1500rpm, producing virtually instant boost. The smaller turbo does not feed the larger turbo. The larger turbo will spool on it's own by the time it is needed to provide the higher rpm kick. The charge piping is almost finished as the mounting brackets were being done today. The expectation is for the turbo setup to be complete in three weeks.
The radiator has been moved 3inches forward to allow for more room for all engine bay components. There will be a scatter shield fabbed soon to protect me from a possible clutch\flywheel failure at high rpms. I ordered a custom Bully clutch today and it should be completed by the middle of next week. The expectation is that this clutch will hold 600tq and 750whp while still being streetable.
The transmission will be completely rebuilt. All gears, final ratio and input\output shafts will be remade using a very high grade of steel allowing for major hp\tq. The intermidiary shaft is also being redone using the same steel.
The driveshafts are still a stumbling block. I still have not gotten any firm commitment to having these produced even though I am talking to several companies. I hope to have this resolved be early next week. I have bought a set of SSBC big brakes but the driveshaft solution will decide if the can be used or not.
The cabin is going to have many gauges, a couple of boost controllers and an assortment of switches. Somewhere, a couple of those switches will be kill switches. I have painted the roll cage and put in my APC seats. The cage needs to be touched up because the seats were a real pita to make fit. The funny thing is that I am expecting to never actually use the APC's as I have some custom racing seats in the works. Other than the cage I have done nothing inside the car but due to some good fortune that will very likely change soon.
As I said at the beginning, my car is now in Toronto which is really close to Niagra Falls, the home of Keith Losier and Desired Customs (the home of the right hand drive Cobalt) I am in discussions with Keith to use his considerable talents to do something with my interior, worthy of the magazine photos that will be taken after everything is done. Keith also visited JBP today and then told me about some of my cool parts I have only heard of.
When my car gets home it heads straight to the shop for a *real* paint job. I am sticking with Victory Red and many coats of clear. I will also have a ghost image done on the sides of the car.
I am sure I have forgotten something so please forgive me in advance. :)
And please lets not have the usual that won't work\you need to....\that is rediculous\ectera, ectera.:)
