: in 3rd gear...
Hi all, just wondering if any of you all are experiencing this.
Whenever I shift into third, regardless of rpm I can feel the engine torque thru the shifter. Keeping my hand on the shifter and then pressing and letting up on the gas pedal you can feel the shifter move around a little bit. I am tending to think its normal since it is all connected. It doesnt constantly move around just might jar in one direction depending if i'm accelerating or deccelrating.
Cam9730 06-20-2005, 11:47 AM Yep, its just the motor flexing the tranny on its mounts, it even happens on my Camaro. It's normal.
Ronnie Pendergrass 06-20-2005, 01:47 PM Ditto!! my car does it also, nothing to worry about until it pops out of 3rd gear without you pulling on it.
yep, me 2. i think its normal
phxSS 06-21-2005, 07:21 PM yep..normal
XeroState 06-22-2005, 10:33 AM You can get rid of almost of this with Goofy Guy's torque brace. I finally put mine on my car and I could not believe how smooth the shifts were. Since everything remains still, its like your shifting through the gears while not moving. (Oh and you can light your tires up nicely as well:D)
GoofyGuy 06-22-2005, 07:16 PM nice advertisment. Its true though can be eliminated for better shifts.
Great to hear guys, thanks. The torque brace sounds sweet, will look into it.
REDLX347 06-23-2005, 02:37 PM it think 3rd grind in my cobalt because when i rest my hand on the shifter and push foward it feels like it is barly grinding it kind of anoying
Stubbles 06-25-2005, 03:39 PM I noticed the "pulsing" third gear thing as well. It did have me kind of worried, but now i'm glad i know it's normal.
REDLX347 06-26-2005, 11:15 PM i've had the same problem when it pulse's but now it pops out of third if i go to get on it some times i'm going to bring it in on tuesday to getg reverse and thrid checked out i'll let everyone know how it goes
lol, that's why the smart ones wait for the '06 to come out:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
CoBIZZLE 06-27-2005, 11:08 AM i've had the same problem when it pulse's but now it pops out of third if i go to get on it some times i'm going to bring it in on tuesday to getg reverse and thrid checked out i'll let everyone know how it goes
Could be your synchros. Do you rest your hand on the shifter while you are driving? Cuz Ive heard a TON of people say that can screw up the throw out bearing and/or synchros. There are some owners manuals that even TELL you not to res your hand on the shifter, my buddies manual says that.
REDLX347 06-27-2005, 05:04 PM i really don't rest my hand at all i just personally think the trans is not strong enough for the car, because i had the same trans in my 2.2 eco tec cavi and i never had any of these problems before.
CoBIZZLE 06-27-2005, 09:21 PM Oh but its NOT the same tranny! This new transmission came from the Saab's, not the older J-bodies.
REDLX347 06-29-2005, 03:48 PM went to the dealer monday said it's not normal for thrid to do that and they ordered me a new trans and it supposed to go in on monday
CoBIZZLE 06-29-2005, 08:51 PM somebody needs to be banchslapeped at that dealer!!!
2nd gear pops out on me (and one time wouldn't even go in at all till after I gave up and put in 3rd and drove a little ways). I've had it into the dealer twice now, and they still say nothing is wrong. It's going to a different dealer when I've got time again (hopefully next week).
REDLX347 07-03-2005, 02:09 AM I Don't Know Why Your Dealer Won't Fix It I Would Change Dealerships And Go Somewhere Else. I'm Just Glad To Be Getting My Car Fixed I Guess The People Who Work At My Dealership Are Smart I Wouldn't Want To "slap" Anyone Who Is Trying To Help A Common Problem And To Anyone Who Says Its Normal Think About It If Everyone Has The Same Problem Give It Time That Is Called A Recall Just Wait Its Only A Matter Of Time
