: Performance Option package?

I am understanding that there is a performance package availible for the SS that will include a LSD and Recaro seats. Does anyone know the pricing of this and when it will be availible? I did a build on the Chevy site, but did not see this option. I am torn between the SRT and the SS, and the SRT's LSD is a big selling point to me right now. But if it is availible on the SS it would def. even up the two.

Thanks,

Jay

Yes this is true, but there is no pricing available yet, the speculation is that it will be $24K with the packakge.

Well that kinda sucks. If the SS comes to 24k with the package and the rumored ACR SRT package is around 24k I would probably go with the ACR.

I will have alot of researching and comparing to do on this one.

Thanks,

Jay

The ACR packakge if true is nice but the 16" wheels really have to go bigger in my opinion, I understand that they're 16's for a reason but now a days that's just damn small.

I will agree with the small wheels aspect. I have a set of 18" Konigs in the garage, so that could easily be solved :)

Each car has some pros and cons. My biggest complaint on the SRT was the handling seemed to be very lacking compared to alot of other compacts I test drove. That is why the ACR package seemed to be nice. Same with the Cobalt and the LSD issue.

When looking at the Pros and Cons of each car, it is clear that the 2 cars I am considering are very much alike, yet very much different as well.

The culprit to the SRT-4 mediocre handling stock is the ride height and width of tires....205 width kills on a 230whp/250wtq car! we are talking about 260 crank HP through 205 wide tires...

I agree with nivo on the tires thing, both of these cars should come with a 225 or wider tire, but I guess they have to keep the production costs down somehow.

Still no news about the Performance package (Recaro seats & the Quaife limited-slip differential) for the Cobalt SS. Quaife has this limited-slip diff # 57.309.155 on their site, http://www.quaifeamerica.com/differentials/diff_apps.htm. All the car mag guys got to drive them. And Cobalt's heavier & over-priced sister, the Saturn ION Quad Coupe Red Line, has them available now. :)

Overpriced? I got my RL for about 15K brand new. Overweight? I see the SS at 2991 Lbs and the RL at 2960.

Those 18's will look nice but do nothing but hamper performance in a straight line.

You might want to do your research before typing from now on killer.

Not in Canada. Here the SS weighs 124 pounds less and costs $2,145 Canadian less (as per http://www.gmcanada.com). You say tomatoe and I say tomato. :)

They had like 4 '04's on the lot that they couldn't get rid of. They had a few '05's sitting in the back also. I guess they just really wanted to get rid of them. I went by a couple of weeks later and all the '04's were gone. It just shows what a dealership will do when they're properly motivated.

There was a redline at the saturn near me that was new and going for 14,995. the dealer said they just wanted to get rid of it and not that many people were looking at them

Wow, I didn't know that the RL and SS weight almost the same as my car?? Is this info correct?? Does the two door cars really weight that much?

GM reports different weights for the '05 SS & RL in the US & Canada. US SS is 2991, US RL is 2960; Cndn SS is 2806, Cndn RL is 2930.

At '05 US SRT4 of 2970 lbs. & with more juice, . . .

However, all these "curb weights" are not really real. It depends on what options are on the car; only an accurate scale measurement is real. Less weight is always better, as long as structural integrity (& dynamic balance) has not been compromised. Power adding mods will invariably result in cascading failures and more subsequent mods - the weakest link keeps changing. Eventually, the factory warranty becomes invalid. But this does not stop us. A car is not a transportation module for most of us, but a religion. :D

I would be really suprised if the Performance package ends up being more than $1000. You can get a factory installed LSD on a Mini Cooper S for $550. The sport seats on a Cooper are $350. I'm really waiting to drive an SS. I have a cadavalier right now and am really diggin the Cobalt SS.

The SCCA weighed them both, the Redline was 2890lbs. Don't remember the Cobalt. This is the same scale system that the ALMS uses, I'd go with that number.

I got mine for not much more than that, it was an '05 and after everything but financing it was 18,000ish.

^^^ What!? You can't get the differental withOUT the S/C....and you have to get the seats with it. What do you mean by "bad bad bad lack of info from GM"? how are they lacking info? And Having LSD does nothing for you in a straight line...we've discussed this MANY MANY times on this site...and you are right about the coner, if you hammer it in a turn, you'll just spin the inner tire without LSD.
