i know that CAI is better for performance but what are the chances of water getting into it and messin things up, should this be an issue or should i just stick with a short ram air intake

thanks

Do you often drive through lakes, rivers, swimming pools, or oceans? Then you should be good.

It flooded in the midwest this summer really bad and my dad had my lowered blazer with him at work. It had a cold air intake and he went through water easily up to the bumper. My car did fine all the way home he said. Mind you I was not too happy about him doing that but nothing bad actually happened.

obviously the water didn't get in the intake or you would have hydrolocked the engine. you got lucky! a short ram intake is good for acceleration and will not suck no water in. with a true cool air intake(the one that has the filter in the fender well) u run a great risk of engine damage when u drive in rain, not because of the rain but because of puddles in the road witch will flood your filter therefore sucking water in the engine. You will get more power however form a cool air intake.

Don't most Cold air intakes just go in the same place as the stock air intake does? From how you make it sound the intake would be right there next to the wheel.

And yes, I know I got extremely lucky but I don't think it's as bad as you say. I could be wrong however, I have little experience with cold air intake problems.

I dont see how it could be called a "cold" air intake if the filter is in the engine compartment. Last time I checked it got kinda warm in there....

a tru cai will have the filter in the fender well because like zillaguy said its hot inside of the engine conpartment. supreme slacker take my word for it, u take a gulp of water in the engine, ur screwed. anybody who's a cetified auto tech will tell u the same thing.

Well, they call their set up cold air intakes, so that's what I go by. Where would you go about getting a set up that would go into your fender and pick up the cold air?

Yep...a couple weeks ago, a guy had his 08 Jeep Wrangler towed in, and told us it wouldnt crank or start, so I start at the beginning checking the battery and starter...he was getting all the proper inputs at the starter, so I put a new starter in, and it did the same thing, but I noticed that the engine was clean, but the interior was muddy....I said to meyself man this thing's acting like its locked upso I got a wrench to try and turn the crankshaft pulley, and the head of the bolt fell off in my hand, someone had already been there. Turns out the guy took it out mudding and sunk it and hydrolocked it and was trying to hide it so we'd cover it under warranty. No such luck. He bent 2 connecting rods....and got to pay for the short block himself.

That is why I do not ever go mudding, or for that matter leave the road. Boo rednecks.
