Funny Story

So, my friend is getting more and more into 4 bangers each time he hangs out with me. He has a 2002 Saturn SL1, and a couple grand saved up, and a good job that could support a car payment and insurance. The car he is looking towards is the Redline, because he can go about getting the car using the Saturn Lyalty Program, and other things. Well, the sales manager begins throwing a sales pitch at him, and my friend, being the jackass he is, brings up the SRT4 just inspite of me being there to fool around. Well the salesmen just laugh and start chuckling abbout how its not a challenge, and how they qipw the floor with them. Now I'm not saying the SRT4 kills the RL, but I think everyone on the forum has aggreed about the slight adavantage in the quartermile. The sales manager then starts telling us that he knows this from experience because the RL out there is his. He doesnt own it, but nobody has bought it yet, so he just takes the car home, racks up miles on it, and puts his radar in there until someone buys it. Then he starts trying to say how it takes 8 months to build one RL, and that people call in to the dealership and say that they will be in to by the car as soon as it hits the lot, yet he has been drving it for ever. Then he starts flaming the SRT4, saying no wonder why the are going to stop making it, its a piece of shit neon, and all this other shit, but my friend needed his information on the car, so rather then busting his chops, I just let it alll goo.

I've been doing serious car shopping for the last couple of weeks and have come to the conclusion that the biggest difference between dealership sales people and private-party sellers is the aggressive stupidity of the dealership crowd. The majority of them don't know the product they're selling on a daily basis, let alone a different model, yet will speak with the kind of authority usually reserved for the people who actually engineered the car. To make this even worse they're usually wrong about whatever the topic happened to be.

I'm just glad it that my quest for a new ride looks like it's over. Tomorrow morning I'll be picking up a nicely loaded 2001 BMW 330i. I looked at several other cars, but the siren song of the inline 6 and rear wheel drive just wouldn't let me stray...
