Loud whistling noise while in boost

Friend of mine bought a stage 3 kit from ZZP recently for his 07 SS with insurance money after he rearended someone. He put the ZZP intercooler on it while the front bumper was off in the shop but left the factory intercooler on it. He said you could do that but idk. The car ran ok when he left the body shop but it shut off with him a few miles down the road and took a bit to get it to crank back up. After he got it started back it was back to normal for about 5 miles. Now if the car gets into boost any theres a loud whistling type shreeking noise and the car has no power at all. Its showing to be pushing lots more boost than it should be also. Its went up to 20 lbs on the gauge with the stock pulley on. Keep in mind the entire stage 3 kit isnt on it. Just the intercooler. Does he need to take the stock intercooler back off?

That whistling you mention, is that the Supercharger that you may be talking about there?? Because it does make a noise when you do any modifications like air intakes and may got louder due to heat exchanger, not the intercooler. This may be a tune issue or something else. Not enough information to give you a diagnostic.

Any questions about the Balt, all answered here:

No the whistling noise is definitely not the supercharger. The car already had a K&N Typhoon air intake and Magnaflow Catback. The only thing that was changed was the addition of the ZZP intercooler while the body shop had the front bumper taken off getting ready for paint. Is it safe to run both the aftermarket ZZP as well as the stock intercooler at the same time? Because theyre both on there right now. Or did he just more than likely not hook it back up right? Also remember I said the car has no power and the boost gauge goes way higher than it did when it was running right. Maybe a problem with the wastegate?

There is no wastegate on the SCs. That only exists on a Turbocharger. Check the hose connections on the Heat Exchanger (not the intercooler because that is not what its called) to make sure that isnt the problem. To me, it sounds like a vacuum leak so maybe the purge sensor and maybe a leak in the SC manifold?? If you aren't too experienced, take it back to whoever put the parts in and have them inspect them.

Thanks. Like I said it's a friends car but I'll relay the message. Just figured I would help him figure it out.
