Assumed Transmission Noises, plz help
I own a 2006 SS/SC, and recently I've been having troubles with a weird scraping noise. It actually sounds more like two fine metal surfaces rubbing together. It's not a clank or a grind noise; just a fine scrape. It doesn't do it all the time, mainly after I've driven a good distance or it gets warmed up. It usually happens when I'm shifting from 1st to 2nd. I've been reading and there isn't much online about Cobalt SS transmission problems, but I have a good idea that it's a synchronizer ring on 1st gear. The only thing that really clouds my judgement is the fact that it will also do it in neutral, revving to about 3k rpm. I don't know if that means it could be the throwout bearing or what. It doesn't make the sound in any other gear besides 1st or neutral. Any input anyone?
