Must be non-sc, if it is running on the left side of the engine as your looking at it. Same as suprchged said, oil isnt a bad thing, but too much can be. Make sure its not soaking wet with oil. When I clean my K&N, I mist a light coat on the outside of the filter, this allows dirt and crap to not inter through smaller voids in the filter.

my k&n came preoiled, as do all the k&n's do. If its not, then buy a k&n recharge kit and appy some sparingly, not a lot. And since it sounds like you have room, go ahead and make your own intake, its not going to hurt anything, UNLESS your like the 2.0sc and have the maf sensor in the intake.

I know exactly what your talking about, but the intake tube is 49.99, and doesnt include a filter. But Spectre, has a book near the product that lists the vehices you can makeit fit, but the cobalt is not one of them.

That will not help man, like i said cough up the cash and get a nice intake and oil is on the filter. if you are new to cars then you dont know what its like you cant even tell its on there. And oil is nto a bad thing just be careful and the whole make it yourself is not a good idea, you will throw CEL's. Im not a fan of short ran intakes because they really serve no real purpose besides making the engine compartment cleaner. A short ram sucks the hot air underneath the hood and we all know colder denser air makes more power.
