every thing turns on but car wont start

now this isnt about my cobalt thank god lol
but my friend has a 99 mercury cougar v6 she went out to her car this morning and turned the key everyting came on like normal except the engine wouldnt even turn over. after a few more tryes it finally started and ran fine
then on her way home from school it did the same thing everythinfg came on but it wouldnt start, again after a few turns of the key it started and ran fine. now my 1st thought was its the starter, but if it were wouldnt you hear a clicking sound while turning the key, bc its completly silent. any ideas on what it could be.

kinda depends on if its an auto or a manual, cause it could have something to do with the clutch, happened on my rx7. Or its just a bad connection somewhere.

oh yea DSMissed you kno alot about dsms right
my friend has a 92 talon tsi awd and he just took it off the road to do build it up. well anyway he says that by th end of the summer hes gonna be able to take my cobalt w/o even trying. and well i dont plan on being stock to much longer and if all goes to plan ill be the the 280-300whp range. now i dont kno exactly what hes doing, but i have an idea, 16g turbo, 2.3l stroker kit. full exhaust, and a new tranny with the GVR4 1st gear. i think thats pretty much all he can do. so lets say he has his turbo set to 20 psi, with the mods iv named above what kinda power would he have. and would i even stand a chance against him
i just jacked my own thread haha

oh by the way the starter is probably taking a shit
take it to somebody that can do an amp test to it
do not use a voltmeter it will fry the fuse in it, if there s one
inductive pickup is the thing to use.
but i work at a shop and ive seen it plenty of times.
most likely the starter

but there are three wires you can test for the starter
on the solonoid there are three nuts
ones power from battery
ones ground to the starter motor itself
and ones really small and thats from the ignition switch make sure theres
12V there every time you turn the key if there is then starter
and make sure theres 12V from the battery too

It happened to me once, I just took the bus. A few hour later it was working fine. No clue what was wrong.

sorry, I just now read this, lol

Well, with his setup he's going to be able to take a stock EVO easily, so thats the power range you'll be looking at from him. Even with 280 hp, you will not stand a chance against him from a dig. But from a roll, I'd say you'll run with him, but probably not beat him. Driver mod might make a big difference there. But, depending on if he half-asses his setup or not, he might not be beating you for long.
Thats my input, I'd say if you plan on running with him from dig, you're gonna need some tires, suspension shit, axles maybe...don't know that much about the cobalt stuff yet, but you know what I mean.
Good luck tho, and keep me in touch with your car and his...I'm really curious to see where it goes!
