Speed Laws

I have some questions for everyone in Cali:

Legal or illegal: Radar Detector?

What is important about asking a cop for the speed readout on his radar gun? Does he/she have to show you before he/she can write a ticket?

Simple stuff, I think I know all the answers to these just want to verify, thanks.

I am pretty sure that detectors are illegal.

As far as asking a cop to see his radar readout, I would say don't. I have been pulled over more times than I can count and let go probably 90% of the time. I equate this to a yes sir, no sir, to the point, give you no shit attitude.

If a cop tells you he pulled you over for speeding, and you want to wiggle out of a ticket, don't come out of the gate posturing ready for a fight. If you are cordgial and polite you are alot more likley to be let off with a warning.

Save the fight for court after you get the ticket.

SoCal Redline said it very well. Be respectful and usually they are more lenient. If you choose to go to court, check to see that they are certified to use the device and make sure it has been calibrated and is within standards. Don't push anything while the cop is at your door. They might find something they don't like and they might add something on top of speeding to charge you with.
