Removing the stock sterio

Hey, I want to rip out my Pioneer sterio and put in one of them DVD 7" screen but some guy was saying that onstar and the airbags are part of the CD unit so I couldn't remove it without buying a special module?! Does anyone know what the deal with that is? I am under the impression that I can rip out the old one and throw in the new one and everything will work fine.

Air bags shouldn't be (wtf?), but I can't guarentee onStar isn't. When you use onStar does it display anything on the radio?

Well On*Star does use your factory speaker set up to communicate with you.

DIC with the Pioneer system is in the dash, so you won't lose that. Loss of onStar and XM is practically certain when you swap out the radio

Recommend a speaker upgrade...and try to leave the radio alone....you'll probably be better off....

nah they are good speakers, not worth wasting the effort and money. I'd go for a high end h/u with a good built in equalizer.

you need a PAC OS2 harness to retain onstar. otherwise it will not even power on, the status light will remain red, and the emergency signal will not work. you can utilize the stock XM antenna but its not easy. the stock speakers sound great once you get them crossed over properly, changing them is def a waste of money. o and the airbags, DIC, have nothing to do with the cobalt radios. as long as it doesnt have RDS (no cobalt does) then it wont effect anything other than onstar and/or door chime. the only important thing is DONT HOOK UP POWER ANTENNA WIRE, it will shut the factory gauges off. but other than that, its just a regular install
