Air Box Mod

I remember some time ago asking about cold air intakes and many people on the forum suggested to stay away from them because they are known to throw codes. Instead they suggested I do an air box mod (as I recall it being called). I recently bought the drop in K&N air filter for my 06 LT 2.2 and was wondering if someone could walk me through the mod if this is still recommended. Thanks.

I don't know about the 2.2 LT but for the SCs, it looks like this....

But it should be similar to what I did. Find the end of the box, put the filter and then remove the bottom lid. Unless the Box is the flat type where the filter requires the cover to stay in place, then keep it at that.... Or just eliminate the box and fit the filter over the end before the MAF sensor.

It is indeed the kind that requires the box to stay on. Would it work to cut the bottom open to allow for more airflow?

I would not.... Cutting a hole is probably not the safest idea. Like I said, you might want to delete the box in general and relocate the MAF sensor if it is on the box and put an air cone at the end of the tubing.

College has kept me busy. Now to find a real job. Then maybe I can afford an SS (or dare I say '60's Mustang?).

Maybe if I am lucky I can get one of those later on in life. I think they may be a little out of my price range even after landing a job. Definitely a sweet car though.

Yeah, its just for the stock air box. Basically its like making your custom CAI with a shield being the stock box and bottom lid knocked off.
