2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS

By Paul Lienert / Special to The Detroit News

General Motors Corp.'s Chevrolet division plans to expand its high-performance SS stable in model year 2006 with the addition of the TrailBlazer SS.

The hot-rod Chevy SUV will be slotted above the high-output Saturn Vue Red Line in size and price.

The TrailBlazer SS originally was displayed as a concept at the Specialty Equipment Market Association trade show for custom and performance parts makers.

The production version of the TrailBlazer SS reportedly will share its 6.0-liter V-8 engine with the retro-look SSR convertible pickup, rated at around 385 horsepower.

Also, it will sport a lower suspension with larger wheels and tires, as well as aerodynamic add-ons.

One wonders if this will get the LS6 from the outgoing Z06, or perhaps the new LS2 that is now under the hood of the GTO and SSR will go under this new beast too - can't see the General having so many different iterations of the 6.0Ls out there...

One also wonders if the General is going to update the Silverado SS as well - ditching the AWD and putting the LS2 motor in the truck would do wonders for it's sales. Damn the current Silverado SS's are slow. Chrysler is really setting the bar with the SRTs IMO - Ford has a lot of bland models coming out (same old, same old) and the General finally has some oomph under it's hoods.
Yeah the SS Silverado looks real nice but i guess its kinda slow due to the weight.
Yah... its not anywhere in the same category as the Lightning or SRT-10 Ram, unfortunately. Which is too bad, a performance truck should really have some damn performance :)
The SS Trailblazer concept has been around for a while now! I believe it has been 2 years since I saw it in M/T. I believe DaimlerChrysler is expanding its RT, and SRT performance vehicles to the Grand Cherokee. Being dubbed the Sport Cherokee SRT 8 with the new 6.1L HEMI putting 425hp and 470lbs at the wheels. The SS is gonna get twin turbo, I beleive, does anyone have a link on the SS?
