Dealer won't honor GMS..

So I'm making my usually bi-monthly calls to the local so. cal dealers to see if they have finally gotten a date on when they'd be getting an SS S/C in..and I find one dealer who says they are scheduled to get one some time next month, and the order hadn't been pulled so I could still make it whatever color and with whatever options I wanted.

Then I ask the big question, will they honor GMS on the car...he says he's going to have to give me a call back. So I wait and 5 minutes later he calls me and tells me they can't because everybody wants one (yet nobody had bought the one they were due to get in a month?) and that it wouldn't make sense to sell me their only one when they could get sticker for it from somebody else.

Sorry for the rant, I just got way excited when I found they were getting one, then really pissed when they wouldnt give me my GMS...This is going to be impossible to get one before the end of sumemr.

Yeah that is what everyone is saying now they are in such demaind that the cars are becomeing hard to get.
I work at a GM Dealership in sales and I can't even get GMS. Sticker is quicker, why dicker, if you find an SS a dealer will let you drive off in, buy it. What's a few hundred bucks on a $23,810 car? Otherwise, wait for the '06. My GM won't even sell me the one we have, I had to order mine too.
Try a different dealer, one that's more interested in selling the car. I got GMS from my dealer no problem.

Remember this - If you pay sticker on a car, the dealer makes say 2 grand. If you pay sticker minus GMS, the dealer STILL makes 2 grand. In other words, it's GM that pays for your discount, NOT the individual dealer.

Given that, shouldn't be hard to find a dealer that'll give you the discount. Mine did, they don't give a rat's ass if GM gives me a discount or not, they just want to sell the car. Try another one ... you'll find one.
Actually, GMS is $1,800 on this car, not just a few hundred..I think the salesman i was talking to just didn't want to give me the car because he wasn't going to be making commission on it. I talked to a fwe other dealers that will honor GMS, but they have no clue when they'll be getting the car in.
More misinformation to clear up.

You are dead wrong! And that is precisely why its hard to find a dealer that will accept a GMS deal on Cobalt SS's right now

GM pays the dealer back 2% of the invoice amount ($450 roughly on most SS's) and GMS is about $2,000 off the sticker price so the dealer could stand to lose over $1,500 per Cobalt SS sold at GMS assuming that they would have sold the car for sticker (MSRP).

When supply catches up with demand this will become a non-issue but for now that is not the case.

Really? Hmm. Maybe it's different in Canada? My dealer said he really didn't care whether I applied my employee discount or not, said he got the same either way. It's not actually called "GMS" here either, so maybe it is different..?
Last week there were 2 in southern cali. Now they are gone! FAST! There is now another one listed on chevy.com in Glendora, CA. Not sure where that is at. I'm still waiting on my ordered Arrival Blue SS/SC that was supposed to be here tomorrow. But, its not. Should I be surprised? NOT!
about GMS

if gms is what i think it is..
General Motors Employee Discount then i got the discount but not the full discount...

if GMS is that then here is what i heard (and i am from Ontario, Canada remind you)

General Motors a few years back would not give the 10% employee discount on rare automobiles. Mainly The Corvette...

but now GM wants more employees to purchase the corvette and the other high demand cars (Cobalt SS, Ion REDLINE, Etc)

but instead of the full 10% discount, GM will give a 5% discount on all of the rare cars (Cobalt SS, Ion REDLINE, corvette, mabye even the original Hummer ,Etc)

if i am wrong, sorry for posting in the wrong section..

Bought my SS/SC last month, just found out I have an uncle that works for GM the other day. My aunt passed away nearly 30 years ago, and he is related by marriage to her. Would I have still been able to get the discount?
I believe sooo

Who is your dealer?
well i can make u all sick to your stomach i work at diamond chevy in worcester ma. We got are first ss tuesday. There are 4 of us at the dealer who want to buy it but they wont honor gms or sell it to us for cost. They are only selling the car at 5k over sticker thats right they want 29k and change they said it was only for the first one because its the only one in new england they said if we wait a few months and we get a few on the lot they'll honor gms and other discounts. As far as gms goes its completely up to the dealer at the dealers descretion??(think thats right) just my two cents
no u wouldnt have been able to use gms. gm changed it its imediate family only.
I get GMS through my step grandfather, is that considered immediate?
I live in Southern Cali. and I test drove the Cobalt ss/sc that is at the glendora chevy. I was a little mad at them though, because I showed up when they were still looking the car over and they said come back in a half an hour. So I did and they were just finishingwith it and then they let some guy who came when I was gone and test drive it first instead of me. I was mad becuase I would have probably bought it, but the guy before me really abused it when he drove it. I could smell clutch just by sitting in it. I dorve it and then like twelve other people did two. The dealer was trying to sell it to me for 2k over sticker and said if I dint buy it then it would be gone. Well its two weeks later and they still call me asking if I want it. Guess they cant sell it to anyone. Too bad they drove the crap out of it or I would buy it.
Just something to remeber is the car has a alluminized stainless steel exhaust when the alluminize burns off it does smell like clutch. I look at a situationl ike that as this that guy didnt do anyting im not gunna do with it unless the guy tried to do a burn out and burnt the clutch up theres no reason to not buy the car. 3yr/36k for a reason not to mention the drive train has 5yr/60ki mena maybe its just me but if it were the car that i really wanted id be able to look pasdt that.
Assuming that it isn’t from an abused clutch.

You have the right idea except that the hot smell is actually caused from Cosmoline which is an anti-corrosion preservative compound that is sprayed on the underside of new cars to prevent any exposed hardware from showing signs of corrosion before the vehicle is purchased, the Cosmoline gets on the exhaust system and burns away as the car is driven the first few time which in-turn causes this pungent odor.
Then how come if you replace exhaust pieces with factory new parts it gives off that same odor??

Obviously because of Cosmoline that is applied to the new component to prevent corrosion.
I promise you that it is not the "alluminize burns off", the melting point of aluminum is over 1,220 °F which is well above the temperature that these exhaust systems will ever reach.
The factory stainless steel exhaust systems are coated with aluminum oxide to prevent surface corrosion of the stainless steel for the life of the exhaust system particularly in states that use salt for snow and ice removal. Remember that stainless steel will still rust just not nearly as easily as ordinary steel.
