First: Hello all. My name is Ryan. Right now I am the lucky owner of a 98 Z28 and a brand new 05 cobalt SS. Unfortunately insurance on the Z is sky high so i am being forced to sell it. For any details PM me about that. My Z is in the 12s and thats where I am hoping to but my Cobalt. Hopefully we can all help each other in the common intrest of our cars goin faster and faster.

Second: After extensive time on the phone today i finally got a great answer for Cobalt SS owners. GMS or Granitelli Motors Sports makers of the Diablo Sport Predator hand hend tuners that F body owners absolutely love has a hand held tuner in developement for the Cobalt. Details are scetchy but it should do exactly what the other predator tuners do and release is supposed to be sometime around the end of the year.

No offense, but a lot of companies say that they're going to do that (make a reprogrammer of some sort)... then they actually get into looking at the ECU and eventually say f-that because our ECU is encrypted or something stupid like it (basically it's just hard to figure out what the hell is going on inside there). So, all i have to say is, i'll believe it when i see it.

Theres no EPROM or "chip" in modern PCM's, with the exception of VW's, that can just be taken out, reprogrammed, and put back in. They have to be reprogrammed through the ALDL in the car.

No offense, but F-Body owners do not "absolutely love" that programmer... at least not any of the ones who do any serious mods. I'm sure it's great if all you have are boltons - CAI, catback, etc... and maybe even headers... although they sometimes require a little more attention to detail.

Any f-body owners doing serious power adding modifications like a cam/heads package, stroker, or forced induction will be using LS1edit and tuning on a dyno.

The same will hold true for the Cobalt, I am sure...

Im almost positive that everyone is having a problem getting into the ecu because it is high speed. Even to access the ecu with a tech2 you need a candi module to slow the information for the tech2 to understand.

Although any type of ls2 programmer may very well work if they can crack the ls2 then can crack a lsj
