Hey KSE!!! I TOLD YOU THERE WOULD BE AN SS IN MY NEAR FUTURE!!!

Just didn't think it would be this kind of SS!! But I'm still SUPER STOKED!!!

Story:
My dad tells me yesterday that his buddy (The guys nickname is Foot  )at work is fixin to build a shop and he needs somebody to wire it for him. My dad offers to wire the shop (he's a certified electrician and does that in his spare time on the side) and says he'll get an estimate to him later. Agreed.

Later on Foot tells him that he has an old car for sale and wondered if my dad knew anybody that was lookin to buy one. My dad asks him what kind of car it was.... 1971 Chevelle     !!!!

Well my dad told him that WE were interested and Foot says that if my dad wires the shop then he will GIVE US THE CAR!!! I was like OH, HOLY SHIT!!!! THAT"S AWESOME!!! My dad said that the size of the shop will be big enough where labor alone will be close to $900 let alone the parts/equipment he'll need to use. So my dad will actually be payin a lil bit for the car over Foot's quoted sale price (once you consider the parts) but still most people wouldn't let go of a '71 Chevelle for $1100-1200!!!! Even if its not an SS!!!

Me and my dad go to check the car out today and my dad and I (we still hadn't asked) still thought it was a regular Chevelle. Not really. It's SS badged inside and out!!! My dad talked to Foot and Foot was like yeah I thought I told you that!?!? The body is in AWESOME condition for a '71, only needs a new front left fender and a hood but hey I want a Cowl hood anyways!!! I'm gonna take the car to ITT if I get to go there and paint it myself. I'm gonna keep it the original color probably. Light blue with the wide white racing stripes!!

We are gonna build it from the ground up, something I have never done so this is gonna be an AWESOME learning experience!!!

This is the paint scheme thats on it now, I only hope that I can paint it to look as good as this car!!!

THAT IS FUCKN SWEEEEEEEEET!!!!!

congrats dude! omg, that's a STEAL!!!!

any info on the engine?.. like mileage and if its been rebuilt, etc..?

dude, that paint scheme is the BEST!!!!!

wow, congrats man, keep us posted!!!!!!!!!

Well there is a 350 in it now but I dont think its the original engine (not even sure if they came w/ 350s in the SS's Ive heard of the 396s and the 454s), no idea how many miles. I cant make up my mind, help me out:

1) I either wanna bore/stroke the small block, possibly up to a 400 or so or put a roots S/C on it or maybe both, not sure how stroked engines do w/ boost. You think a stroker will do fine with a S/C??!?!!?

OR

2)Go ahead and drop a brand new 454HO in it from GM Goodwrench...

Which one sounds better???

I like the 454 idea cause well shit its a big block!!! But I like the small block idea better cause it'll probably weigh a LOT less and I wanna make into the best g-machine that I can. I want it to be real fast of course but I REALLY want it to handle like a champ so weight could be a factor...

Just curious of your opinions...

Turns out the 350 was available in the 71 SS:

Awsome on the Chevelle. I love the 1970 Chevelle SS.
But the '69 was 300lbs lighter!
Light weight doesn't matter to me on a car that had a model dubbed

"The Heavy Chevy!!!"
300!!! Well that is alot but if you get the 70 SS with the 454 300 lbs is nothing to worrry about now is it?
Didnt pick it up yesterday cause of the weather, Im not off again til Monday, but my dad says he's gonna go get it Saturday!! WooHoo!!!
Congrats man!

Small block all the way. Don't get me wrong, there's no arguing with a big block, but you can get a LOT of bang for your buck with SBCs. Parts are plentiful and relatively cheap. You can push 400hp from a 350 small block without much work at all, on all "old-tech" (ie, cheap) parts.

I mean, if you want something obscene like 650hp, then go big block. But if you're okay to settle with just "damn fast" instead of "tearyouanewasshole fast", can't go wrong with a small block.

Too bad it wasn't a Ford, or I could help ya out. I'm currently building an SBF on the side right now for some extra fun. 351W, and I'll easily make 350hp on iron heads.
BTW - does this mean no Cobalt SS for you? That's too bad man! :( Enjoy the Chevelle, though!
