I am 17 years old and about to get a job making anywhere from $2000 to $3000 a month for an engineering firm and I was waondering if anyone thought that it would be worth it for me to spend about $800 a month for the car, insurance, and gas combined. I really like this car because I get a good discount on GM because of my grandfather and I also like it because it is a car that can take out a lot of ricers without even sweating. If I don't get an SS than i was also wondering if anyone thought that a loaded LT coupe would be worth the money.

The $800 a month is all of it together and that includes $200 a month for gas which i really only spend like $65 a month on gas and $2000 down payment and i know all about car buying because i have helped my stepmother buy a car and i cant get an import because my grandfather would kill me and i get 22% off because of him also. If not a SS then ill probably get a LS 1SB coupe and mod the crap out of it over time. MY parents are paying for my college.

If you spend 800 a month on insurance and gas...than your crazy...thats almost 10,000. and depending on how much money you put down on a down payment than add about 200-400 dollars to that for your car payment. I get a GM discount to and the SS is still going to be 18,000-20,000 dollars

he said 800$ for the car, car insurance, and for gas..

You have to decide if its worth it for you. Oh also there isnt an LT coupe the highest you can get on the coupe is the LS 1SB.

if you have a job hook up like that...do this: buy a banger and get around in it for 6 months...so for those 6 months save up as much as you can then put it down on a car..that way you will have 40-50% paid off and the only thing you will have to worry about is the car insurance. ..if you have never had car insurance before and you are choosing to go with the cobalt ss expect your monthy payment to car insurance to be anywheres from $300-500...some places will just try and rip your wallet out from under you.

Good luck with the job and car!

First, you should have you License, not just your permit.

Second, $2000-$3000 a month is VERY good for a 17yearold

... i wouldnt spend $800 a month on ANY car, even if i could afford it i wouldnt..

a Cobalt?.. with THAT kinda money, honestly.. you can do waayyy better man...shop around and you'll see.. Plus, who the hel is gona finance you?.. Do you know what Interest is?. .. how about Full Coverage Insurance????.. dude, by the time you're done financing the car, in 24-48 months, you would have already bought the car at least THREE times over!!!!!!!

get yourself a freakin hatch/ civic/ tsi/ gsx/ etc..., and throw the rest of money on mods!!!

you'll have a FASTER car for waaaaay cheaper!!!!

if I were you, i'd save for 2 months (or more! [better]), use that as a downpayment, and get your payments REALLY LOW!!!!!... you could afford a MUCH better car with that kinda money coming in every month!

well if you figure in the fact that you could easily throw a big chunk down up front in a couple of months to knock your payment down to about $275 insurance would probably run around there say $300 and gas in the month figurin in cruisin and price spike... guesstimating $175-(200 AT THE VERY MOST!!!) I would say you could get away with spendin $750 or LESS per month on the car, the rest of the choice is up to you...

Come on man, do the OBVIOUS thing to do...

Wait 2 months, put down $5000, finance it under one of your Parent's names...

$400/ month for 48 months!!!!!

Get the Insurance Policy under the same parent (of course) and put yourself as a 2nd driver (but not as "owner" of the car)...

$800/ month is REDICULOUS!!!!!!!!

$400
$200 (probly not even that much for an adult with 20+ years experience)
$gas (you're only 17, i dont think you have much places to go anyway)

= @ ABOUT $600... put MORE down, and the payments will drop... save for a little longer, and get them EVEN LOWER!!!!!

why don't people think of these things?

for $800/month, ill be out of my parents house and living LA VIDA LOCA..

$23,400+

-22%
-$2000

= $16,300+

= >$340/month for 48 months

$340+$200+$65=$605

...insurance should be even lower if you get the policy under your parents like i said before...

i wonder if anyone is even READING my posts??????

exactly..

you have to be smart when buying a car at any steelership...

if you have a trade in, KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!!!..

.. get the car down to the lowest price possible, that way, you can HIT'em with it right before the paperwork is in front of you :)

......if you tell them up front about your trade in, they'll add little "taxes & charges" to the MSRP of the car you're trying to buy... not to mention the shitty trade-in value on pretty much any car (that you would trade in for a Cobalt anyway)

Well I wont be tradin any time soon cuz like I said in another one of our threads I need the truck to haul the Waverunner. The Cobalt will be my weekend driver :D and the S-10 will be my daily driver to beat on constantly.

Thought about one of these for my truck... its not really that expensive.
And my truck is EXTREMELY ANEMIC!!!

Supercharger

Not sure, whatdya think. Wouldn't be hard at all to install either.

And hey look, they even give you a free knife. LOL
