i have a 2005 cobolt with the 2.2l 5 speed and the master cylinder for the clutch is screwed! the clutch doesnt completely disengage. my question is how does the clutch master attach to the firewall. im talking about where the rod with the line not the resivor

there must be someone out there that knows how its mounted to the firewall
There are likely two studs that extend from the body, through the firewall, so you would see two nuts where the studs come through. Look on the firewall, above the clutch pedal, follow the pedal linkage to the master cylinder shaft, look in that area.

The clutch master cylinder and the brake fluid reservoir are all connected.

To bleed the brake master cylinder you have to follow these steps.

1. Put the car on the hoist and lift it up so you can easily access the bleeder valve on top of the transmission on the L/F of vehicle.

2. Disconnect the line hooking up to the valve by removing the two clips at the base of the valve.

3. Inspect the inside of the valve make sure that the o-rings inside that female points of the line connecting to them are there. If not, you will either have to order the valve from the dealer, or buy some o-rings from Kragen or any other car part store.

4. While all this is happening, let the brake fluid reservoir drain so that you can start with fresh fluid. (This may take an hour at most to ensure that the fluid empties and can travel through the clutch system efficiently)

5. Assemble the parts back in order so that you can bleed the valve. Top off the brake fluid.

6. (This part requires two people) One in the car to pump the clutch. One underneath the car to bleed the valve with a regular hand wrench.

7. Proceed with bleeding the valve and refilling the brake fluid reservoir until clutch is stiff enough to engage gears.

If you prefer not to do this, take it to the dealer or a trusted mechanic to bleed the system for you. You may need to bleed the brake system after to ensure that both exits on the reservoir and working properly.

the pedal linkage to the master cylinder shaft is what im talking about
not the master cylinder i was told it was the master

To remove the clutch master cylinder removed all the lines and disconnect the
push rod from the clutch pedal, then turn the master cylinder 1/4 turn counter clockwise to remove it from the fire wall.

Orrrr you could just go to the local Advance or AutoZone and get the Haynes repair manual for 25.00 and do it yourself. Trust me its worth the investment. I have it and it has helped alot.

I would guess the rubber seal/rings had perished that is why pressure can't be sustained. You need to dismount the complete hydrovac to get and access the master safely and easily.

First you have to remove the push rod from the brake ped and loosen up the nuts that holds the hydrovac. Next would be removing the brake lines (make sure to drain the reservoir upon doing this).

After removing the nuts you can now pull out the whole assembly of the hydrovac. Just remove the master and replace it with a new assembly part. and re install the whole assembly. To bleed the system just follow RedSStreak procedure.
