well to start, im new here so bare with me a bit. i was comparing the whole sport compacts click together (the chevy cobalt, the dodge neon srt-4, the acura RSX type-s and the slightly tamer honda civic si) although the SRT-4 is the closest competitor here, im not a fan of turbo chargers as they require a little more attention to oil pressure, temperatures, and can be pricey to maintain and repair. more so than superchargers of course. we get alot of ss's here in b'more as well, fox chevy had 6 on the lot collecting dust. i test drove it of course and i liked it alot. i couldnt find any SRT-4's to test drive so my question is this, if i do buy the ss, am i selling myself short?? i loved how refined the engine was, more refined than my fathers mini cooper and thats supposed to be a premium compact with a capital p!! it was raining during the test drive and this car has one of the best ABS systems ive ever used. i wish it had traction control or all seasoned tires because all it did was slip and slide during the 1.9 mile test drive. the steering to me was excellent, not once did it feel numb of disconected, i enjoyed its light effort during parking maneuvers and on center feel during 40 mph sprints. however i do need to know this. the fixed mast antenna on the fender has gotta go, are their any after market companies that would put it on the roof in front of the sunroof? like on the ford focus.

well driving the srt-4 and cobalt ss are two different things. the srt-4 has more horsepower and is faster but there is lag involved waiting for the turbocharger to spool then woosh you are hauling ass but you won`t really notice the lag much but it is there. now the cobalt ss makes less horsepower but it makes it without any hesitation and is still fast but it is missing some of the put you in the seat feel. a simple retune and smaller blower pulley would easily fix that. but when it comes to handling the srt-4 falls short in stock trim compared to the cobalt ss. also the build quality and the reliability is somewhat better in the cobalt ss. both cars are excellent but personally i recommend the cobalt ss. you should test drive both and see which one is right for you.

Hey im a bowtie freak so my opinion might be alittle one sided i had a 01 s10 that I was in the process of lowering and makin a street truck but then my friends at the dealership called and i went to take a look its a beautiful car handles very nice very quick acceleration and when she out on the highway she just sticks and gets im very happy and will be waitin for the new pulleys to come out to give it that little extra

Hard to say what the reliability in the long term will be on the cobalt at this point in time. I think you should be happy w/ either one. Both have some give and take. By the way, the srt-4 handles better than most give it credit for but you do have to really learn how to drive where as some cars can literally drive themselves.

o no!! no wrx!! my brother's mom has one (he's my half brother hehe). ewww ewww ewww ewww. i cannot c myself behind the wheel of this car. when i drove it, it was like there wasnt enough of something, i dunno what tho. it didnt inspire me to drive it hard or to drive it at all. its nice to look at but i want something thats as fun to look at and take to the beach so jealous tuners can go gaga over it as it is to drive. the cobalt ss does just that. the only reason i even consider the SRT-4 is because since they are in the same price bracket i dont wanna end up regreting my decision. and i know how to drive a fast car i mean i was the previous owner of an acura integra ls (someone hit it while it was parked on the front lawn, lmao). seriously i found the sobalt to b well behaved in sedate driving and when i did push it through some of the turns the front tires grabbed and held on!!! it was so easy. just point the nose in the direction u want it to go and go!

There is no lag on the srt. Mabe you should go drive one before given advice. O and there is the reliability again. Your car just came out. You don't now what you have yet in the reliability area.

If there is no lag on the srt4 how does the SS launch on it so hard? Just a question, not trying to be a smart ass so dont take offence because I do not own either car.
most of us take it easy on the launch do to wheel hop. Its not the lack of power. I have the car now to were you will not even be close on the launch. Motor mounts make this thing a monster on launches.

Sorry to be the one to put us back on topic, even though I could go on with the girl topic for hours, but to AirForce, one other car you should look into, that would give you the same performance as the Cobalt, and even more of a sleeper effect, would be the Saturn Ion Redline. Quite a few people looking into the SS/SC don't even know about it, but it shares the same engine, tranny, and platform. Not trying to sway you, just give you another option. You could get one with the Competition Package and would cost just about as much, maybe a little less, than a new SS/SC, or SRT-4. Check it out and give it a shot.
