We ran out at Fontana this weekend and made our first pass around 10:00. It ran an 11.98 @ 115mph. Our sixty foot times were a little off, it was about a 1.77. We were looking for a high to mid 11 pass and achieved that! So now the only place to go is down, so hopefully we'll have some more times for you in the near future. Let me know if anyone has any questions. :)

Please tell me theres atleast another .5 and 5mph to be gained with this Phase 5 package. Good runs, but for the money I'm not impressed.

When we had our media day, we also ran 11.97 at 117mph. The car was running well then and now and will only get better. We are still figuring out alot about the car. Although the numbers may not seem that impressive to you right now, the great thing about this car is that it runs those numbers consistently. I know a lot of people who go faster, but they only can get one run before they blow the car up. Having a car that runs quickly and keep going rounds is worth a lot more than a car that will run 125mph every once in awhile. Hopefully we will be able to get you more information soon.

what does the phase 5 package consist of?
There are a number of modifications done to the phase 5. Unfortunately, because there are quite a few modifications done, i cant list them all. However, you can find out what the phase 5 consists of by going to the website or picking up one of GM's build books. In the book, it tells the specifics of whats inside and how they assembled it. Here is the website for that information. http://www.gmtunersource.com Take care :)

I love the phase 5 mods because it makes a 2.2liter engine producing 535hp reliable(which is key like Ms. Nocita noted), but it sucks that it's not the SS's engine :(

Have you (or anyone) heard of anything like the Phase 5 project happening with the S/C 2.0L engine besides the Twin Charge project with gravana?

If by some miraclous occurance i happen to find out before you do, you'll be the first person i tell :p Congrats on the badass times btw. 11s are really impressive with no nitrous (to me atleast). That and the fact that it's not detonating and rocketing into the stands after a few runs makes me want to get a normal cobalt and give it the phase 5 treatment :D

Thanks for the congrats! We were really excited too. And the greatest part is that it has a lot more in it, we have just been playing it safe so we can get consistent for the races we've been running. Ive been racing a car that has had some trouble in the consistency department, so to finally have a car that is fast and reliable is a dream for any bracket racer. Im so glad to talk to some people who are as excited as i am :)

In a car that lightweight and with that kind of 60, Im going to guess its more around 400-425hp right now. So wheres the extra 100hp?

EDIT: After looking over the Phase 5 build sheet on that Gm website, why is this so important to everyone? It means nothing to anyone driving a street Cobalt. Its a friggin Sportsman race car.

It really has 535 HP and barely got into the 11's.......? Or I guess the better question would be 535 HP and only trapping 115?
The car does have 535 hp, and like i said before, it has a lot more in it. Instead of just going to the track and maxing the boost so we can get one really fast run, we are trying to run the car consistently so we can do well in brackets. However, we will be slowly turning up the boost and making some fast runs, and ill be sure to let you guys know about it. People need to understand that a car running 11's all day long is more valuable, at least to racers, than a car that runs 10.50's when it decides to not break. Although the car is very capable of considerably dropping the E.T, right now we are focusing on winning races. When we start pushing the car more, i'll be sure to tell you the times. Thanks :)

The phase 5 cobalt is a racecar. However, its a race car that can be built from the street car with parts directly from GM. Although some people dont wish to have real race cars, the opportunity to build your own is there. Its just not for everyone i guess. Also, people dont need to build this exact car. There are a lot of other options that can be put on the car to make it quick, but keep it on the street. It really depends on what you're looking for.
And as far as the extra 100hp, it is already there. Like i've said many times before, we are not running this car hard. We have been working on consistency so we can win races. We may not be using it at the moment, but the car has all of that power. Hopefully ill be able to get you some more info soon. Thanks :)

It's awesome to see the car in the 11's congrats. :)
Thank you! Good man Coleman.

I'm not trying to be a jerk or a smartass to everyone that's bagging the phase 5 package, but is it normal practice to take a car that hasn't even been around for a year to the track and run the wheels off of it? It seems like you wouldn't want to have to rebuild the car after every race when it hasn't really made a name for itself and doesn't have sponsors who throw money at it. Not to mention that it kills your ability to compete (doing well then having the car fall apart on you is up there on the list of top 50 things that suck for racers). Wins and good CONSISTENTLY SAFE times seems like the smart thing to be going for at the moment...now later on when everyone sees the potential in the Cobalts and sponsors start showering them with money, i suggest blowing the car apart trying to run 9s every other race :D

Let's start showing some better support for Phase 5 teams and stop knocking the car for not doing something it's NOT trying to do. (especially Nocita being that she's so present in the boards and the only person i see keeping us posted!) I mean come on...this isn't the SRT-4 forums :p

In fact, I think you said it better :) Anyway, I'm still learning and my team and I are very new to the sport compact world. But Im willing to learn and again, i'm willing to answer questions regarding the car or driving the car. Thanks again for that positive post, its very refreshing and appreciated!! Take care

No problem. I am happy the car is in the 11s so soon. That's awesome regardless of what it took to get there. I am a big fan of the 350z and when that first came out there was a team running 11s with spray. The car quickly blew up lol. I like your approach here and it's good to see another American FI 4-banger doing well. :)
